Annie Fischer's Beethoven recordings are simply the best; she is second to none! She is one of the few who really delivers a satisfying performance. Beethoven must be played directly with strict timing rhythmic energy; otherwise, it loses its flow. Far too many pianists change tempo arbitrarily, but not Fischer.
Annie Fischer is legend.... super amazing tuch....!!!! very nice play Pathétique! this is my first Pathétique, best Pathétique, most beutiful Pathétique never ever seen.. thx thx! thX!!!
It was said of Annie Fischer that her tremendous musicality afforded her the ability to see something new in the music each time she played it, even when she was on stage. The audience was witness to a unique and new interpretation even as they attended a concert given by this great pianist and musician. This is what we hear here. It is always and ONLY Beethoven, yet we hear her exploring all the possibilities and treasures Beethoven placed in this piece. Totally spontaneous yet it has the quality of Inevitability - the Hallmark of Beethoven. Thank you for giving us this music.
Personally, I find this recording the best among other recordings of this sonata. Its got the clarity, power, the softness as well as the hard pounding sections covered like how I imagine this sonata to sound😅
Although she´s not unknown she has been, obviously underrated. How can I explain, otherwise, the fact that for more than 45 years I´ve been missing her.I cannot stop listening to her!
@@matthewv789 Waldstein? Her most outstanding contribution to our understanding of Beethoven comes from the so-called "moonlight" as she demonstrated beyond any doubt that this sonata has nothing to do with moonlight. I consider her the greatest interpreter of Beethoven sonatas.
Perhaps the most perfect.... every, every note covered with Passion, nothing missed in Tempo either.... I heard Beethoven's soul in this...My Thanks...
I kept looking for a version I liked. Richter I found too fast but after him many sounded boring and overly miserable, thank you for posting this version, so far I have not found I like more!
Truly a master. One of my favorite pianist. Underappreciated and underrated because she was a woman in a mans world! Funny thing she was a chain smoker and orchestras nicknamed her Annie Ashtray! I have several of her recordings on vinyl and every one special to me!

BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!! I don't know who Ms Annie Fischer is or was but she is outstanding!!!! She plays with passion and obviously is LOVING what she is doing!!! fave for sure!!!
Hungarian, mostly unknown outside of Europe (she only ever performed twice in the United States), and her Beethoven sonata cycle was not published until after her death (she hadn’t approved its release).
Very good performance; quite expressive but without exaggerations and with very few technical issues, what a shame that she rushed the second part; late thanks for posting it!

Wonderful to actually see Fischer on film . Her intensity must have made her a very different pianist in the 1920's and later . Could she charm in Schumann like or DeLarrocha Novaes ,,Bruchollerie who never could have had Fischer's technique . If someone played this without telling me I'd say this player has a lot of fire but plays this music in a pianistic way not the music is first conception unlike a completely different generation Ashkenazy 's or Brendel 's depth in this music .
That’s such a disparaging comment! You may as well look at a black person and be surprised he/she can talk! Have you ever heard of respectful attitude to people regardless of gender, race, nationality? Please close your eyes, listen, admire and open your heart to this wonderful pianist.
Very amazing indeed ..... the music is superb , but what is it ? Beethoven , certainly not . Some show off , or pretentious virtuosity ? Of course not . Annie Fischer is just , and only , playing for herself . Not to be listened , no , just only for herself . And she is telling (us) a fantastic story . Something out of her intimate life . Privacy . Something harsh , stiff , it's painful and aching , but it is so "noble" ... I have never listen something like "that" . She respects the master of Bonn . She knows that he wrote the Missa Solemnis . But she do not care .... Beethoven as a walker-on .... Hah ! Annie is telling something , explaining , and more of all , expressing it . Something very special . Intimate women relation . precious stuff . Going far . Very far . Sensuality . Even more . And more again .
