      Actually at that point in the series he could have been telling the truth. The implication is there was an acute but terminal illness that Melinda passed away from when we hear about her in "Mother's Day." Additionally, long term memory for children doesn't really start developing until age two. And since the main characters are two and under, it's perfectly logical to conclude that they'd immediately forget about Melinda. Whereas Angelica, who is 2 - 4 for most of the series, could have some possible, fleeting memories.

      @artistwithouttalent 10 месяцев назад +2

      Either way you look at it, it's weirdly progressive for a children's cartoon to display anything like that in the 90s. You could look at them like a married couple that doesn't abide by ordinary gender roles or stereotypes, or you could look at them as a couple of friends in a lavender marriage and either way there wasn't much on television like it, certainly not without making it all a joke (yes, Rugrats got a few lines in, but for the most part it didn't paint anything as weird or out of the ordinary about it.)

    • @docjoe86
      @docjoe86 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@artistwithouttalent I think on some level we are supposed think it’s funny that they don’t follow traditional gender roles. And parents were supposed think it was funny that they were in a lavender marriage. So that portrayal wouldn’t fly today, but it was still a somewhat positive portrayal of LGBT+ people in the 1990s, so it wasn’t all bad.

      @princeshadow13 Boris and Minka received some controversy later in the 1991 series' lifespan because the Anti-Defamation League claimed that the two characters resembled anti-Semitic drawings that had appeared in a 1930s Nazi newspaper, when in actuality, Klasky-Csupo was founded by Jewish people, and the 1991 series even had a Chanukah episode. This is why in the 2021 reboot, Boris and Minka were given redesigns so that they looked less like their 1991 series counterparts.

    Also, its wrong. Not your crying about comments, i mean harming babies....

  • @GhostIntoTheFog
    @GhostIntoTheFog 10 месяцев назад +1

    You want that kind of engagement? Fine. We don’t tolerate the forcible cosmetic alteration of AFABs, and we’re finally beginning to treat intersex individuals with the same respect (and, yes, circumcision in infants is almost always cosmetic surgery, despite the AAP’s biased and long-expired policy statement). AMABs are equally entitled to bodily autonomy. Anyone who disagrees is anti-feminist, because believing someone isn’t entitled to bodily autonomy because of their sex assigned at birth is incompatible with the concept of gender equality.
    Oh, and BTW, circumcision jokes, in addition to being extremely disrespectful to survivors of the procedure, are among the laziest and most unfunny forms of comedy. Someone having their bodily autonomy violated hours or days after popping out of the womb is not something to laugh about or treat like an odd or awkward institution. It is abuse, period.

    No kid watching this got any of those references and any adult that did and had a sense of humor just laughed. This was the 90's when someone said something on TV you got over it. Not like today when you have to make a whole case about everything and try and get it cancelled. Your life is too boring and easy if you have time to complain about a kids show.

Instead of a kids show doing vaguely inappropriate jokes for the adult viewers, do one about an adult show doing inappropriate jokes regarding kids: aka Big Mouth which uses the philosophy: We'll show the genitalia of middle schoolers, but it's animated, so it's ok.
