      I knew the clothing sewists would be experts at this! It was a little overwhelming for me, but before I sewed bags putting a zipper foot on my machine was overwhelming. Learning new methods is always a good thing!

    I loved your tutorial. Everything turned out well but I wondered if you ever put anything on the bottom of your bags to keep them from sagging? I used canvas as a lining and quilting cotton as exterior.

    You are such a great teacher. I have been following your tutorials for about one year or so, and your methods have not changed, which I do so appreciate. I like your intros, your explanations of materials to use, and your step-by-step directions. Please continue doing it that way, as I am a visual learner. Reading a pattern becomes a foreign language for me...lol Thank you we need a lot more instructors such as yourself in this world. Before I purchase a pattern, I always hope you have a tutorial on it.

    Have my pattern and can't wait to make this! My brain wheels are turning on ways to modify this to be birthed and to piece the exterior sections together! Love the vinyl you used on both :D

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  3 года назад +2

      You know I was wondering the same thing. I wonder if you just leave a hole on the bottom, sew the lining and exterior right sides together, then flip out.... I mean that should work, right?!

    • @xoKayefox
      @xoKayefox 3 года назад

      @@OklaRoots I would think so! I ended up reprinting it, and cutting all the edges out that weren’t supposed to connect, and then laid it out and saw what I wanted to be a “section”. I have three distinct sections (it reminds me of how Lauren Mormino does her UNG hobo bag). I then added 1/4th inch to the straight edges where I’ll be connecting them (I don’t cut on the fold, I trace it mirrored). I was going to do the bottom through a zipper pocket method but you could totally just do it through the bottom I would think! I hope this made sense 😅

    Have you ever tried to use waterproof canvas as both the outer fabric and the lining? Do you think that would be too bulky for a domestic? I just ordered a lot of waterproof canvas so I was wanting to try it but didn't want to waste material if it's not going to work out.

    I just used this tutorial to make the poolside tote - thank you for laying out the steps! I mostly sew garments, so some of the instructions were confusing to me. Having the visuals and each step laid out helped tremendously!! I think I’ll make more of this pattern, it turned out so great. I made it at 85% of the original, making it a little bit more of a traditional sized tote. Thank you again 😊

    The basting technique on the accent pieces is a very old technique that I learned back when they still taught home ec in school…waaaay back in the 70s. It works like a charm on curved edges that are hard to fold, but it may take some practice to get the hang of it. I like to use my iron with steam to get it to lay flat.

    If I can't find waterproof canvas can i use PUL fabric for internal?

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  3 года назад

      You definitely can, but PUL is a lot lighter weight than waterproof canvas. The waterproof canvas gives the bag a firmer structure. So with PUL it may be a bit more floppy (unless you make the exterior nice and firm)
