I live in a very lithic poor area. What little is here is tough, has lots of inclusions and is small. Mainly jasper, agate, chalcedony and porcelainite. To reach good knapping material I have to drive 7-9 hours and hope I can talk a private landowner into letting me pick up surface stones. To say I’m jealous of you is an understatement 😂
Top tip. If your UK military and find yourself on Sailsbury plains (which you no doubtably will..you can find some decent flint) stick it in your bergan.. good for your legs humping that extra weight aswell 😅.
Hi Will, thanks for the tour and updates on your courses. With such a motherload like that of flint and obsidian it's like you hit the lottery! Your passion for what you do is a wonderful motivator those that think about their passions in life instead of jumping to it! Great work bud. See ya on the next 👍
Nice haul I wish I could find chunks like that round here, I've always wanted to nap but can only find small bits where I live. Thanks for sharing brother 🤘
I don’t think we have that rock in Wisconsin. We have other beautiful useful stone; but seeing you just pick in up flint from a stone pile is amazing! Makes me think Britain Isle is a big flint rock! What is that white covering the flint stones? Are the “White Cliffs of Dover” a massive cliff deposit of flint rock??
If you ever start selling nodules of flint let us know. I'd pay good money for some of that. Where I live there is very little to be found. Mostly basalt and obsidian with chert here and there
@@bigbasil1908 good question. DEFINITELY awesome to work with. Just like the bottom of a beer bottle (when fine grain) Finding obsidian fist size or larger is tough above ground.
@@nevillesavage2012 I don't think obsidian is found naturally at all here in the UK. Where I am in England (Greater London) we do have tons of flint thought, both flint pebbles and cobbles and a fair amount of black flint nodules of varying sizes. I've done a lot of flint knapping these last few years but haven't managed to make an arrowhead or anything yet - I just haven't mastered the thinning out of the pieces yet lol. But I love flint knapping and should eventually get a piece finished
hi i found an amazing flint arrow head while field walking before i go metal detecting would you be able to date it if i sent you a picture i would love to know more about it and look forward to your reply and i just subscribed so you can hopefully contact me thank you
Once, flint was easy to find in the riverbeds. But that was when Elves walked the earth.

Old pieces of floor tiles are a pretty good substitute
I've been sourcing my flint from a farmers field near Brentwood. Some of it is fractured because of the ploughing but some is pretty decent.
I would enjoy watching the stones for hours. I really thinking about going to on the trip for stones like this. Nice video.

Isn't obsidian one of the best for knapping? It's ultra glassy

Obsidian is volcanic glass.
Are you trying to inform him on stone typology?!?!?!🤣
It's the best type of flint, and is highly prized for black powder flintlock firearms
