@coreyawood Well i could tell that there a was a leak in the exhause piping right up near the manifolds so i had them take everything out and do new piping right out of the engine and we decided not to put the cats back on. I got it done at Daves Muffler Shop in Durand, MI. it cost just under 500 dollars for the whole new system.
You actually can lose power with a less restrictive exhaust. Less back pressure is good but no back pressure at all will decrease horsepower. 2.5" is a good size pipe to run on these trucks
james laRue I've heard that you can lose some low-end torque in some vehicles if you have very little back pressure. Not sure if this would be the case with this truck though. I had a 98 Chevy Tahoe that had the same engine as this truck. I ended up chopping off the muffler and put in straight pipe leaving the cats on so it was legal and it wasn't too loud unless I stomped on it. I never had access to a dyno, but it felt like it was a bit snappier all around. I did confirm that I averaged a solid 1mpg increase both in town and on the highway compared to stock setup with frequent checking of mpg.
+DragoonWarrior790 I use to have a 89 Chevy and it ran so much better with true duals with no cats and imco mufflers. I'm gonna do the same setup on my 95 Chevy
+james laRue Doesn't removing the cats make it non-street legal? I'm sure it does in some areas. I think it goes by what state you live in. Might want to check on that first.
Got ya. I'm in South Dakota and I don't think we are required to have a cat, but we do have to have a muffling device on our exhaust. I don't mind really. I recall one time when an older Dodge Ram pulled up next to me at a red light, and it was so loud it had to have been running right off of the manifold. Even with just idling in gear waiting for the light to change I could barely hear my radio. Be careful if you decide to take a road trip to California.
Yeah its deffinitly legal, and if you want to be sure just get a decible reading and print it out to keep with you at all times... As long as its below i think 98dB then your fine, might be 93
now.... bore it, stroke it, use forged crank rods and pistons, give it aluminum heads, roller rockers, high lift solid cam, good lifters, strong push rods, port it, and slap a nice intake on the top with a 700cfm carb.... Please.
Who in their right mind would dislike this
omg that truck sounds sooo good at idle!!!!!!!!
Man I love that sound!
I'm putting one of these on my 1993 chevy
@huntinandfishin09 that sounds very nice w/o cats...not a lot of pop and crackle..i like it alot

mean sounding truck. i like it
@chevytrucksftw sweet. it sounds amazing
@pearldrumsarecool they are both the same, the 44 is a bit smaller and compact for smaller areas.

+DragoonWarrior790 here in Montana we don't have emissions so it doesn't matter. Muffler shops here will take off your cat

Sick bro. I have a red one too. Doesn't sound like yours though, haha. Working on it though.

@slowride55 its the chevy 350
P.S. Where did you get it done? Cuz I'm in MI too, no one will do duals on mine without buying cats.
hey man stupid ass question but is the super 40 and/or 44 legal? like noise level wise.
How did you get a shop to do it without cats? About how much did it cost?
@slowride55 they didn't vortec the 350 till '96
@TheSethEllis thanks. i got it for free too
@huntinandfishin09 how do you get away with no cats
Is this with or without cats?
SO COOL. Can i have your truck?
Is it a chevy 350 or a Vortec 350?
@JuduWeed ok thanks
Any header work before putting these on?
