Fr, this is easily one of my favorite channels out there. With the quality and research that goes into the videos that they make it’s honestly a shock that they have less than 100k subs.
Hunting in Denmark is still heavily influenced by old traditions. One of the most common ways of hunting is a big group hunt, directly translated it is a "company hunt" hunting with company. It's typically scoffed at by non hunters as a thing for rich people to get connections and secure business deals. However as a normal person with a hunting license I can assure you it can also be far more casual and fun. This type of hunting is conducted with 3 important elements: The hunters, of course. "Clappers", who walk from one side of the forrest towards the hunters and make noise to push game towards the hunters. And last but not least, the dogs for fetching game. I have been on a few of these hunts, even one at a castle where I shot my first pheasant. Yes the bird, not a peasant lol.
The day of the week has finally arrived where my favourite channel has another brilliant video!! I am very loyal supporter to this channel! Hope everyone on here is well and wishing you happiness and peace ✌️ xxx
What would be fun to see is if we made what we do now during medieval times how wealthy would we be considered. And then how wealthy the royals would be adjusted for inflation.
Everyone in the United States, and I do mean everyone- even the homeless- would at the very least be positioned nicely in the Textile Freeman class. Anyone with a roof over their head is automatically in the upper portion of the mercantile, textile and skilled labor class. If you work a White-Collar job there's a very good chance you've got more wealth than the average Medieval noble. Education, income and personal movement go a long *long* way towards not being a Medieval Peasant. The inverse would also be true. Adjusted for inflation and ownership of wealth, the average Nobleman of Medieval Europe would be a micro nation unto themselves if you translated their estate to today's money.
It was an injury from a joust that changed Henry VIII’s behavior and England’s history. He was unconscious for some time and had a leg wound that never properly and caused considerable pain. Before, he was the perfect Renaissance prince. Afterwards, he became a tyrant.
You could argue he was heading that way anyway despite the head injury. He had already fallen madly in love with Anne by then and he was getting desperate for a son hence all the marriages and ruthlessness. He was also plagued by court rumours that humiliated him which ultimately led to Anne’s death.
@@hollyyyyyy I personally think it was the head injury that caused the behaviour change - similar things have been documented before and it sure would explain a lot. It makes you wonder what course history would have taken if that joust had gone differently!
@@sarahcooper5272 A frontal head injury can be devastating to a person's personality, rationality, judgement, insight, etc. when severe enough. This is very true!
@@2Bad4YOUuu Well it was serious enough that he was knocked unconscious and was unresponsive, if I remember correctly. Imagine getting knocked out by a spear, fall off horse, might have gotten drug around for a bit (hence the leg injury) before being pulled completely from the stirrup. That's a horrible scene to picture. The man probably had a brain bleed by the time it was all said and done!
I'm glad I am an artist and would have much joy out of drawing and colouring then. Though, I imagine colour would have been tougher to acquire or expensive in that time, let alone getting enough paper or bark to draw on. Then I would have to be lucky enough to even have time for that if I was a peasant.

You have really great content and a very pleasant voice and cadence. So I hope you don’t mind me asking you to please research how to pronounce certain words. Valois is said Val/wah. Salisbury is said Sols bury. I know it’s hard to know unless you grew up in Britain how they’re pronounced Thanks
Gaston Phoebus most likely had a stroke and died during a meal, according to testimonies of the time, not killed by a bear. It was in August, and bear hunt wasn't likely.
Enjoyed this video but come one how long does it take to google for pronunciation? Valois is Valwa not Valoi. Edward 1 was known as Longshanks as he was so tall, not 'long sharks' because he was as long as a shark?? It just makes people wonder, how accurate is the rest of the video? Clear
Tournaments? Try football. Aristocratic women were expected to create and embroider their husbands shirts; it was work, I’ve hand sewn those shirts. They also managed the household, akin to running a good size hotel. It wasn’t all lollygag going about playing Parcheesi all day.
Hey I love your videos but after watching a few I gotta say you've really gotta bolt down your pronunciation of Salisbury... It's basically a silent 'i' my man!
I think about if I could go back in time and be a king, trade my life for a kings life. Would I? I don’t think I could give up my iPhone for any kind of life without it.
Well, if you're still on the fence check out the episode on medieval hygiene. I could not handle living in that kind of filth. And the horrible medicine would be too much for me.
Hunting in North America isn't a popular pastime for the rich. The wilderness is too dirty and there are too many bugs. Hunters are often specialists that are hired by governments to manage wild animal populations (like the out of control wild boar population). The First Nations peoples are allowed to hunt. Bears are only hunted for the illegal Chinese medicine market. Almost all Americans have several dozen automatic assault rifles and handguns. These are only for hunting and killing humans, usually mass shootings in elementary schools, churches, and concerts. Only Joe Rogan hunts with a bow. I'm not sure Medieval Royalty would consider any of this 'fun'.
You might try harder with correcting your pronunciation of names, and portrayals of monarchs. The Medieval French Royal House of a Valois is pronounced 'Val-WAH' not "Va-LOY"! Charles I of England (shown in your portrait) and Charles VI of France (the medieval monarch you reference in that portrait as your playing card example) were not the same person, not to mention that there were 200+ years between their reigns. How can this channel be taken seriously with such blatant and easily avoidable errors?
Although I do sometimes cringe at the narrator’s pronunciation quirks at times, I try to remember that the way we pronounce things now rarely mirrors the speech of the times and regions referenced. The actual factual errors are fewer, but sometimes surprisingly avoidable, and I hope that as time goes on the channel will improve.
5:37 The point of the joust was to break your lance, not be dismounted. I love this channel, but it does seem to get a lot of basic medieval facts incorrect.
