I genuinely feel sorry for Charles II. He is probably the most mocked king in history, but he could not have impacted how he was born or who were his parents. If the mockery is this bad now, imagine how it must have been to him while he was living.
Unfortunately, schadenfreude, or feeling pleasure for other peoples' misfortune, is such a common human emotion that most global languages have a word for it. (We English-speaking folk even imported the German word.) You are so kind, to go beyond that and empathize with the unfortunate Charles II and others in the Hapsburg family.
Medieval royal culture seems downright distopian. Maybe it's just because I'm viewing it through a modern lense, but the lifestyle and practices of the very wealthy and powerful of that era just seem so yucky to me. It gives me the same feeling as watching My Strange Addiction or other reality shows with questionable ethics. It's just gross and upsetting. Hard to believe that was just the thing for a thousand years or so.
My name is Logan. Choad Logan. While decorum dictates a degree of discernment, I can say I have provided chickenhawk services and training in deep fluffery to elite members of various royal familes.
Poor Elizabeth!! If they'd just let her alone she'd probably have had children sooner and better. Hearing of women treated as baby machines makes me a little ill, and very grateful. It's still going on in the world and thank all the gods I don't live there. Thanks for another pithy video. Your upbeat narration is a digestive aid for this awful information.
They weren't treated as baby machines. Like men, they had specific roles to play in society, one of which was motherhood. Unlike today, motherhood was valued highly.
I used to live next door to the Habsburgs. They let their dogs run wild throughout the neighborhood and when someone went over to their castle to complain, nobody could tell which Habsburg was the head of the household.🤣🤣🤣
Would I rather be a medieval king? Or the lower middle class American in the early 21st century that I am? No question. My life has been better than any medieval king could dream of. So even though I covet that rich lifestyle to a degree, I wouldn't trade with a medieval king for anything.
That would be the Lorraine Hapsburgs, a cadet branch who ruled the Austro-Hungarian Empire and had the good sense to stop marrying their blood relatives. It's the Spanish Hapsburgs who did all the inbreeding and died out as a result.
@@Sorcerers_Apprentice Yeah, but they really only stopped after WW1 when they lost power. There was Franz Ferdinand, but things didn't go well for him. So they likely only stopped when they lost the power. Otherwise, they wouldn’t stop regardless
Inbreeding was only a nobility thing and most of people who came to North America from Europe at first were persecuted protestant fanatics who hated anything what would make a person happy or make person have fun and later poor or criminals went to Americas
What's really scary is that portrait painters tried to be as flattering as possible. That means the real people looked even worse.
Charles the Second probably looked like sloth from the goonies
Whenever you might think your family is a tad messed up, just look at the Habsburgs, and you should feel better. Lol.
I thought it was a P ? In name.
I did too, until I saw the title and had to edit my post. Lol.
@@restock_1731 glad I'm not alone anymore than I am...
If you look at Tutankhamon and his lineage, the Habsburgs look pretty normal by comparison.
Ohh i don’t know, i just don’t know love.
"That marriage, aside from Isabella her self, remained childless" 💀

Prince Andrew has done his best to spread the royal seed about.
He's such a chad.

there are still habsburgs alive...they are not extinct
He,s referring to the Spanish branch of the Hapburgs .The Austrian branch, the main line is still alive today.
@@hildahilpert5018I'm guessing that the bloodline purity phase died out and they're not interbreeding anymore, if the main bloodline still exists
It's a Royal tradition.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Thank you. Your work and voice is medicine. For me at least.

Yeah, in theory, but in practice they were made into baby machines, albeit usually under drastic circumstances.

Playing Crusader Kings 2 right now and rethinking some marriage proposals 😅
Niccolini is the last person I would ask for a referral.
The habsburgs taught me 'double first cousins' xD it still haunts me
I think you can trace their ancestry back further to Guntram The Rich. 😊
Habsburg jaw 🫱🫲Windsor Ear/hairline
They certainly weren't chinless wonders

I went to hs with a guy that literally had this jaw. Had to have surgery, came from a well off family, and everything.
Thank you.

And their sisters weren’t even hot
I bet they preferred having sex with lights off or with closed eyes.

So much of being following Jesus
Jesus loved everyone he might have given Mary one tbh?
