I also just entered a premodern online tournament with the deck. Im currently 1st in the standings with it. Its a super powerful deck for sure! Good luck in your tournament
Just my 2 cents but I think Goblin decks are more combo-control than aggro-combo, where you can shift roles if you need to. It’s cards are not redundant and a lot of them are answers, not threats. Most goblins are way better for blocking than for attacking. Lots of decks playing Gempalm Incinerator and Rishadan Port to get to late game, and not so much proactive cards like Ancient Tomb or Barbarian Ring. Some even play Pyrokinesis in the main board.
Thats an interesting take.I would normally consider it aggro because vs traditional control, midrange and combo decks we are the aggressor. Especially vs combo where we have minimal disruption. I do see your point vs creature decks though, we do slow it down and try to grind them out with pingers sometimes. Thanks for giving your 2 cents
@@IPlayMagic I respect but I've seen the Ancient Tomb Goblins player losing because of the tomb even not using the extra mana at least 4 times, some of them are in youtube (PSS Jared Doucette against Patriot, FNP Shandalarian VS Madness), plus you ruin a very nice pairing against sligh. If you activate 3 times thats double bolting you. Also, Warchief cheapens your non-colored mana, so endgame you need more R than non-colored. Best Goblins manabase IMHO is: 18 mountain 2 Rishadan Port 4 Wasteland
No deck will be optimal when played by beginners though and will always have extra small things to be played optimally. It's a lot easier to give someone who's never played premodern before a goblin deck than landstill, elves, the solution or storm for example as goblins generally doesn't need as much knowledge about the format or intricate play decisions to be effective and perform well in the hands of a beginner as other archetypes do. Realistically if you just play your best guy and attack every turn the deck would still be somewhat effective (I say this as a goblins player myself)
@@IPlayMagic I am not sure if that is right. My experience with playing goblins and moreover opinions of profesionalists like Jim Davis, are just the opposite: Goblins require a lot of knowledge of the meta, correct sequencing, which goblin to tutor from Matron, when to chump block or when to wasteland etc. without that they may not work as not always it is a straightforward aggro. It is not an easy deck to pilot. The best for the begginer is burn :)
@@jakubb4784 I think Jim is talking about professional level. I would agree that to get the 100% potential from a deck it requires experience and skill but if I gave a total beginner who has never played premodern before a goblin deck they would still be able to do ok in their first few monthly events with goblins compared to decks like landstill that requires knowledge of exactly what to counter or midrange decks that need to make more choices about which cards to take with duress or some tricky combo decks etc.
I don't like Ancient Tomb at all on Goblins, you make life easier for your opponent, especially other aggro decks, and you usually want RR and the extra mana is not used. Not a fan.
It's awesome. Usually goblins is the beat down deck so you aren't too worried about your life total. It's only awkward if you draw multiples. Also it's not hard to get RR in the deck even though not that many of the cards need RR. Tomb can accelerate the deck a whole lot. I understand why people might play wasteland instead but I think tomb is definitely strong.
Good video, I enjoyed it, going to my first live Premodern tournament with Gobbos on Sunday, I'll tell you how I did :)
