I feel sadness every time I watch something related to this anime. It always tells me that even if we fight for something its always in vain and we will never win and that hurts a lot.

Holy fuck I haven't been in a relationship or experienced heartbreak (and I'm very close to 20) so I don't know too much but I can say for sure that the feelings that he must be experiencing are powerful. I'm so happy and carefree about my life right now (which radiates positivity because others see me as the kind of guy you want to be around) because of the fact that I haven't gone through such powerful feelings. For him to lose that girl must be soul-crushing. I'm somewhat thankful for my situation but I also feel dread sometimes because I'll never find someone.
That was a different girl he met in his freshman years, this was the last time these two ever met. The story tells your his story as he tries to reach out to something he'll never achieve.

I love how it ended here, really good choice by the writers to ensure it left with a happy ending. I liked how it was sad in the middle and got really happy towards here . So powerful to make the entire movie him being on the train to get here and finally reaching. Loved it, really symbolic of how our struggles will end up working out for us.
This movie really shows that nothing in life lasts forever, and that you sould move on from your past otherwise you will always feel lonliness and depression 🥺

You can see why Makoto Shinkai (the director) wasn't too happy about this this movie, something was lacking, because once he made Your Name he finally got the ending he wanted and that is exactly what 5 centimeters was lacking, a complete story with a satisfying ending.
For me personally 5 centimeters was the masterpiece of his life so far. It tells and represents life as it often is - sad, full of nostalgia and missed chances, and no really "happy" or "sweet" endings. Your Name and almost all of his newer works are in my eyes more children-oriented and commercially sell-able, but they lack the depth of 5 centimeters.
This movie thought me a very important lesson . real life doesn't have alternative endings. When something didn't work as the way you wanted, you have no choice but accept it and move on.

Akari at the end of the movie was a vision/illusion, she wasn't physically there, illustrating that they were just memories of each other. Because their face tot face communication faded their feelings for each other were soon to follow. Both of them eventually move on from one other, but it's showed in the final part of the movie, that they still show signs clinging to the past. Sorry for the long answer💀
As for her moving on wasn't only due to time but in this series a tribute to Takaki's strength. On Takaki's end, he was interested in protecting Akari like he has always done and not being able to see how she was doing prevented from from moving on. Read the manga. It reveals the contents of both Akari's letter (chap 9) & Takaki's letter (chap 3 & in the movie after they kiss). Their love for each other is something reflected through their impact on one another. I think the movie was more focused on a drama aspect and cut out some parts like Akari's perspective when she was growing up. I still loved the movie though and knowing the manga makes the movie better.

OG - Anime Dragon Ball/Z/GT/Super yeah since the Funimation and even the Ocean dub cast are pretty iconic at this point. They’ve definitely made a name for themselves but some anime would be better in the original dub I imagine. It really all depends on what it is, I think. There really is no wrong way to watch stuff like that as long as you can enjoy it.
OG - Anime For sure! Like Dragon Ball as I mentioned. Some of the Japanese humor might not always come through for all viewers so the English dub will often try to make sense of it or come up with something similar yet just as effective which I think we can all appreciate.
