Mark, you’re the best watch teacher on RUclips! I’m a teacher myself and I can confidently say that your calm, methodical teaching style and pure joy for watches has made learning all about them easy and interesting. Plus the awesome lawng aisland accent goes a long way! Thanks for making all these Watch and Learn vids for us uninitiated to pick up the clues about the complex world of horology. I was given this seiko (in black🤘🏼) as a gift and came here to learn about it (it’s awesome, legible for how complex it is and not at all too big for my small 6.75” wrist). I now have a new hobby, thanks to mark and (also his mate over at urban gentry - love how they’re pals) Legends - thanks lads!
I was offered the rose gold one for Christmas. I love it. it's beautiful, classy, eye-catching and discreet at the same time. I was used to watches with minimalistic information. The hands, and nothing else. Personal style. But I'm 100% convinced with this Seiko design! Works really fine. Size is just perfect. I don't feel it on my wrist. Does not bother me when I'm wearing a shirt for work. I must confess it took me some time to understand how to setup the time properly. The French version in the booklet was rather unintuitive. I should have looked at the English one straight. Do not hesitate, it is definitely a very good watch/present. ;-) thanks for the video!
NovemberCountry, the rose god version is beautiful, but I really like the Arabic numerals on the face of the watch. I wish that were an option for the rose gold watch.
Do you have an indepth tutorial on how to setup all the functions on the Seiko Neo Classic Perpetual Calendar (setting up Alarm, Chronograph, Calendar, etc.).
I just started watching your videos. I love watch and learn on the different movements and styles. SO much I never knew. You're great at explaining some of the more technical operations of watches. Thank you.
Great video Mark, would love to see more videos like this with all the other brands on your website. The videos showcase the watches better than the images on your website. For example the orient video you had a week ago or so, is really making me consider the Agent. Thanks for your work!
After seeing this video I decided this watch is a must have for me. After half a year and some patience I bought a brand new SPC123P1 on eBay for only 135 USD with free shipping. It's the same watch as in the video but with a stainless steel bracelet and the "dress watch" patterned dial but with silver instead of the rose gold accents. In person it looks even better than in the video. Although my passion is with mechanical watches, this one I could not resist and glad to have it in my collection. Amazing quality as expected from Seiko. Better spend your money on quality like this than on some replica of a watch you cannot afford.
Beautiful watch. I love perpetual calendar watches but they can be hard to set. It would have been great if it is a solar watch. That way, you won't have to change the battery and go through the rigours of having to reset it.
The minute/hour subdial is a 24-hour totalizer giving you a 1/5th second 24-hour chrono complication. The one downside is inability to change the battery without resetting the IC which requires reprogramming month, day, date, and leap year again. Seiko at least provided their 4F/8F perpertuals designed in the late 1990's, using a capacitor in the circuit with enough energy storage if you changed the battery while it was showing near end of life (double tick), and did the swap in 30-45 seconds, it would retain programming. Sadly they've not done this in their other perpetual since then.
Definitely going to put my order in for the white dial which numerals markers. Thanx Mark for showing us this one heck of a deal! The watch looks great on your wrist Mark! Not to big!
If I keep watching this channel, I'm going to die penniless! I have no idea how any man can watch this video and not immediately reach for his credit card to buy one. I know full well I don't need this watch but that little voice keeps repeating how I 'must own at least one' perpetual calendar of which I love but have not practical use for. Oh the agony!!! :-)
Me too but it's such a nice hobby 😎, I used to watch "the urban gentry" who does does those endless lists and top 5's, but here atleast there are actual useful information.
I wish this had a year indicator and moon phase dial instead (since both of those functions relate better with the perpetual calendar) and do without the chronograph and alarm, despite the added functionality those features bring to the average person. I would assume the year is set at the factory. Surprising watch for the price. One can only dream of an A. Lange & Söhne '1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar' or 'Langematik Perpetual' at this meager price point.
Hi Mark, I really like this watch BUT it's really big. Do you have any suggestions for alternatives for smaller wrists? Somewhere at this price point and something that moves the way the Neo Classic moves (the function of the hands) + the way it looks. I looked at some Citizen and Orient (namely : Citizen: Silver Eco-Drive Perpetual Calendar BL5470-06A & Orient Urban CEU07008D Automatic). I'm 27 and a teacher in HK. I'm looking to buy my second watch (from my own earnings, the first being a G-Shock) and my other options are the SKX013 and SARB035. I 've just begun my career. Also, I'm leaning towards the SKX013 considering its a more casual and outdoorsy piece. Thank you... and for all the videos you've put up for thousands like me.
Wow, so far every single watch that I've fallen in love with has been out of stock! I'm not kidding! I've found at least three beautiful watches through Mark's very informative videos and every single one of them is out of stock :(
I do NOT want to use my real name on RUclips Problem is supply. And if we do a video you can pretty much assure a sellout pretty quickly. So you can subscribe and buy the next watch we feature. :)
Hi Mark, I was going to buy one of these from you because of how great your review was. Especially with all of your educational videos, I wanted to support your efforts. Unfortunately your website showed you were out of stock on this watch. Sorry for that, but I wanted you to know your efforts would have produced some results. Who knows, perhaps the China virus disrupted inventory. Keep educating us, it will pay off.
Very nice review, I just ordered the white face with blue hands neo. I think that is very beautiful watch, I should be receiving it on Friday 3-8-19 I also have the citizen perpetual calendar watch which is very nice also but not as easy to use the features as the neo. I bought it at jomshop for $123.00 I got $5 off and free shipping. Was 128.00 like everywhere else.
An interesting extra quasi-functionality of this watch is that it's (sort of) a dual-time watch. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me that the hour, minute, and small second hands are completely independent from the 24-hour dial (at the 6 o'clock position) which governs the date pointer. So one could set the 24-hour dial to some other time zone and the normal hands to the local time and there you have a dual time watch. The only quirk of this setup would be that the day of the month hand will then point to the date at the _second_ time zone, not local.
Hello tjere thanks for this video its made me go out and buy 1 unfortunately im in the uk and id rather have had got it from you but nevertheless its because of you i have bought it so thank you seriously you inspired me .i have a question it looks like a 24h chronograph i womder if it can be left running so i could use tje chronograph seconds as tje main clock second hand. Or is this unadvisable as with mechanical watches thanks in advance .
I may be nitpicking, but if you’re careful to pull the crown when the second hand is exactly at 60 seconds and then set the time on the 24 hour dial, the 24 hour dial will always advance when the second hand is at 60.
Hi Mark, can I buy one as I've seen somewhere in a great discount price, need a suggestion and don't know about much to set it, how and where can I get step by step instructions to follow, please advise
I bought the more expensive SPC253P1 Which is 40.4mm width and 10mm thick. I wish I would have bought that one (SPC131P1) because the print is definatly thicker than on the slicker model. This watch is hard to see even with reading glasses, if I was 18 it wouldn't be a problem. I wonder if the dial is the same size or not.? Coolest watch ever though and the only watch in this price range with a twenty-four hour chrongraph. A lot of Citizens have the am/pm dial but it has nothing to do with the chronograph. This Seiko is a sophoisticated watch for two hundred dollars. It does lac a deasent owners manual, I wish you would get in to all the functions of the watch.
Case size is 45mm case thickness is 12mm not 11. I'm trying to learn something here... While I'm at it, my 24 hour hand is an hour fast, any way to fix that? thanx
Leap year algorithm Mark, you were correcting the leap year for the 100 year exclusion, but not for the 400 year inclusion. This is the algorithm: The following pseudocode determines whether a year is a leap year or a common year in the Gregorian calendar (and in the proleptic Gregorian calendar before 1582). The crescent date indicator on my white version is, I estimate, one click shy of centering on the date number. Can a competent watchmaker correct this imperfection? Thank you.
One thing Seiko missed was including a _countdown_ timer on this watch. It would be much more useful than the straight stopwatch. It's very strange they didn't do it since they did include countdown timers on their quartz watches previously (the second hand stepping backwards and all).
See, I super dig this. I don't need or want the chrono, but it ticks ALL the other boxes. Except size. 44, ugh. I have a larger wrist, but that just seems so HUGE. I wanr all of those features, less the chrono, in a 38. Maybe 40, but that's pushing it. Any suggestions? Or, any suggestions besides "keep dreaming"?
It wears so nice and it also has a second time zone, I have it and it is beautiful and while it is a big watch it's dial and bezel both contribute to making it seem smaller. And it does so much I had to buy it for what it does alone.
You could look at the Orient polaris 42 mm. It has a similar look but no perpetual calendar or chrono and it's an auto gmt not a quartz. Right size and look. In fact the dial and hands of the polaris are almost identical to this white dial version. Good luck.
Please help. I opened the casebac. There is a cover over the movement, which seems to remain inclined upward and I have to push it down to close the casebac. Is it normal?
Hi I’m looking into getting the rose gold version (SPC129) In the site it says it’s 40mm. Is there any size difference between them? It does look a bit smaller in the video
Size is ok for my wrist. However missing 1 - luminous hands & markers 2 - Solar Power If it had these 2, this would have had made a perfect perpetual calendar ever built at a very very affordable price. However still a lovely timepiece
The rose gold one is gorgeous, but the pushers and the crown should have been steel because the PVD will start wearing off on it, and that's a shame, as it will ruin the watch. With steel pushers and crown, it would be an easy choice because the indices and hands will not wear. Strange decision by Seiko. Great video as usual, Marc. BTW, Marc, a lot of your popular Seiko watches are out of stock, including all Monsters. I assume this is just a post-Christmas blues, and not a sign of Seiko's discontinuing a bunch of lines?
Good point on the pushers. Didn't think of that. Seiko seems to be really slow coming with the 2nd gen monsters. I'm not sure they are still making them to tell you the truth.
BTW I forgot to say that I don't think it is too big for you at all. THe relatively thin 11mm helps. Perhaps you add this to your nicest watches that you don't own list....
Hi Mr. Mark, I am to choose between this SEIKO watch and the Graf Zeppelin 7680-1 Alarm Chronograph you made another video about. Can you please help me to choose which one of those two is the best..?
I have only one problem with this watch now that I understand the functions: they have this huge dial to accommodate all the complications, then they still make the sub-dials so large they leave the numbers partially obscured. It's an unnecessary design faux pas that would bug me every time I looked at it. Either shrink the numbers and the subdials until they're fully visible, or omit the obscured numbers. Have them or don't have them.
Mark, you’re the best watch teacher on RUclips! Bought this watch after watching this video, its an amazing watch love how it shows the date :)
Sukun Unosawa which one wud suit for a black wrist
Ronnie Bembre probably Rose gold
Cn u post pic with ur watch on wrist
All the colors of these watches are gorgeous!
Gorgeous Watch! I just love horology this timepiece has some awesome complications when it comes to watches, Seiko hit a homerun with this watch.
I was offered the rose gold one for Christmas. I love it. it's beautiful, classy, eye-catching and discreet at the same time. I was used to watches with minimalistic information. The third one is stunning!
Great looking watch.
Thanks Mark!
I just got it home... It's amazing! Thanks for the review
Chronograph + Perpetual ! Just wow ! Very complex 👌
I didn't think I would be interested in buying more quartz pieces, but that's a ton of functionality in a really nice looking package.
Very true!

I just got the rose good version from Ebay at a steal. Fits my 7.5" wrist perfect. Might be the favorite in my collection now.

Beautiful watch and the alarm sub dial can be used as a second time zone similar to the seiko flightmaster.
beautiful watch! I am about 3 months in on wanting to know more about Watches and Horology. Thank you for being very infomative in your Vids.

That texture dial on the rose gold model looks amazing. With the white dial model have that texture too then it would be perfect.

Marc, a great video. I didn't know about these three and I am glad I know about them now. I agree with you about the white dial and blue hands.
Thanks!
Love this watch and definitely gonna order last version
Great video. Could you please make a video on how to set this particular watch?
Damn you Mark.......DAMN YOU!!!! :D
(Another watch I want...)
Thanks for the video. I love the white dialed version! Beautiful pieces from Seiko, indeed.
Thanks.
I own the black version! Unfortunately the chronograph and alarm functions are not working anymore and it is not worth it to repair it.
Does the watch need to be reset after a battery change other than setting the time accurrately? Very informativevideo. Thank you.
No, I don't think so as I haven't read that for this watch. But setting date is a bit complicated for a new person.
The only quirk of this setup would be that the day of the month hand will then point to the date at the _second_ time zone, not local.
I wish they had the exact design but smaller version in Solar or Kinetic 😅
The white one is beautiful! I wish it was kinetic, but I may have to pick it up anyways.
Love the white version of this watch!
Excellent review! Nice and cool watch indeed! I own the black dial version and I love it.
Glad you enjoy it; very functional.
Can you do a how-to setup on this watch? The manual is a bit complicated to follow.
Beautiful watch, wish I could find one.
Just bought one and it arrived 12-21-22 from Jomashop. It was $199.00.
Beautiful watch, I’m sold.
do you have a video on how to set the time and date on this watch? sorry if i missed it.
Great watch! Thanks for the review!

Hello Mark,
In this video you suggested a different bracelet for the Seiko SPC 131 P1.
Which Seiko band would you suggest that would look nice?
Hi Mark, can I buy one as I've seen somewhere in a great discount price, need a suggestion and don't know about much to set it, how and where can I get step by step instructions to follow, please advise
www.watch.co.uk/watch-manuals/GB/seiko-watch-manual-7t86.pdf
How do you change the perpetual calendar for December and the day
COULD THE ALARM DIAL WORK AS A SECOND TIME ZONE ?
Looks like it could Mark... could you try this function and let me know please??
Would it look good if replace with bracelet rather than having the leather strap? I have the white face/blue hands model.
Hi Marc I need to ask if you have a bracelet for this model the white dial maybe in brushed finished with polish center links
Is this model Seiko Dress or Seiko Neo Classic? On website it is Seiko Dress? And can you please confirm it has sapphire crystal glass?
Hello, good video of a nice watch. You still have stock of it?
@Long Island Watch Hi mark, is the alarm a countdown timer or a ringer that you can set to go off at the same time everyday?
Great video! Any idea when the white will be back in stock? I would love to get one.
MentallyReacted yes
Abbottsmile Watch Reviews/Music Producer I got mine a few weeks ago from another site. Great watch!
Case size is 45mm case thickness is 12mm not 11. I'm trying to learn something here... While I'm at it, my 24 hour hand is an hour fast, any way to fix that? thanx
Leap year algorithm
Mark, you were correcting the leap year for the 100 year exclusion, but not for the 400 year inclusion.
This is the algorithm:
The following pseudocode determines whether a year is a leap year or a common year in the Gregorian calendar (and in the proleptic Gregorian calendar before 1582). The year variable being tested is the integer representing the number of the year in the Gregorian calendar.
if (year is not divisible by 4) then (it is a common year)
else if (year is not divisible by 100) then (it is a leap year)
else if (year is not divisible by 400) then (it is a common year)
else (it is a leap year)
By the way, for this watch totally unimportant, because after 5 years the battery runs out and you have to start the sequence all over again. Wonder what would happen on the 28th of February 2400 around midnight......would this watch still be around to tell us ..? Probably not. But surely on the 28th of February 2020 around midnight.....can't wait.
Nice watch by the way.
I like the rose gold one.
But how am I going to explain this purchase to my partner?
Can you imagine her face when I try to explain all this Mumbo Jumbo to rectify buying my 35th watch?
Hi, thanks for this video - what a nice looking watch.
Thank you.
Hi Mark do you have video of a great entry level GMT?
Are the neo classics with sapphire glass instead of hardlex a better choice at a good sale price?
Can the battery be upgraded to a 10 year battery? Or is there a size constraint that would prevent this?
Very cool. That said, yes-solar would have been the right choice for powering the movement.

Great review Mark!
The five year battery gives us plenty of time to forget how to realign the hands. 😂. The technology crammed into such a small package blow my mind!😱
Please help. I opened the casebac. There is a cover over the movement, which seems to remain inclined upward and I have to push it down to close the casebac. Is it normal?
Love this watch! Great video Thanks!
Thanks for watching.
what is the width of the watch strap? thanks
What is price of this Seiko Neo Classic Perpetual Calender
Interested in this watch,is there a lume version of this? Or something similar to it with lume?
Hi I’m looking into getting the rose gold version (SPC129) In the site it says it’s 40mm. Is there any size difference between them? It does look a bit smaller in the video
how to set am & pm on Seiko 7t86 please upload an video for it
Love the rose gold, but I wish it would have been in the 40mm range.
Size is ok for my wrist. However missing
1 - luminous hands & markers
2 - Solar Power
If it had these 2, this would have had made a perfect perpetual calendar ever built at a very very affordable price.
However still a lovely timepiece
Hi. Have they got a watch like tis but with lume? Thank you.
Just purchased this from Mark!
how to set the alarm, it is not set as you said with one pull of the crown, how to set the date...?
The rose gold one is gorgeous, but the pushers and the crown should have been steel because the PVD will start wearing off on it, and that's a shame, as it will ruin the watch. With steel pushers and crown, it would be an easy choice because the indices and hands will not wear. Strange decision by Seiko. Great video as usual, Marc.

Can we use the alarm dial as a second time zone?
Hi
Can you explain difference between SPC129 SPC129P1 SPC129P.
Thanks
got white dial (seiko strap was very poor quality and had to replace it) - a great "9 to 5 office work watch" cheepie
is there kinetic/automatic/solar version of this watch?
Not that I've seen.
That would be nice. Would probably add 200 bucks to the price tag though
@@leoscarpoli1nonly This watch with an automatic movement would ad a few zeros to the price tag haha.
BTW I forgot to say that I don't think it is too big for you at all. THe relatively thin 11mm helps. Perhaps you add this to your nicest watches that you don't own list....
How does this work on different time. Zones...?
Looks great love it
I would like to know does need to adjust every end of the month ?
It makes everithing automatically till the battery works
could you do a video on the new orient howard?
I will put it on the list, thank you.
Great video, I have seen a few websites stating the watch available with a 40mm diameter, can you confirm that to be an option? Thanks
Some websites have incorrect specifications for watches. I have seen it happen a couple of times already. It's frustrating.
I have only seen the ones we have here, measuring the 44mm as stated.
Long Island Watch thanks for the responses
Hi Mr. Mark, I am to choose between this SEIKO watch and the Graf Zeppelin 7680-1 Alarm Chronograph you made another video about. Can you please help me to choose which one of those two is the best..?
Hmmm, I like the styling cues of the Zeppelin better.
And what about the quality of the mechanism..?
Is it a so cold "Regulator", "Régulateur" in french ?... Tank's. :-)
Hi Mark one question do you have a storefront premises or is your whole business on line?
if you have store please send a picture thanks.
Hello - we are online only. Stores are for dinosaurs :)
After how many yrs/months its battery should hav to change? Is it a durable watch plz rply
I see this advertised as an auto-quartz, is that correct?
its an analog quartz
I have only one problem with this watch now that I understand the functions: they have this huge dial to accommodate all the complications, then they still make the sub-dials so large they leave the numbers partially obscured. It's an unnecessary design faux pas that would bug me every time I looked at it. Either shrink the numbers and the subdials until they're fully visible, or omit the obscured numbers. Have them or don't have them.
My watch back didn't come with the seiko mark engrraved, but rather a powder coating "seiko"... Is this a fake?
I got the automatic movement, and my 24 hour hand is one hour faster than the watch. Any idea how to fix it?
No you don’t.
Can you disable the alarm?!
