Yes her eyes are beautiful I know somebody that has eyes like her it is a t h r i l l being with her watching her eyes and other parts love her in Ice Castles
I miss Colleen Dewhurst when she passed away I cried because her talent appealed so deeply to me. She was "mother earth" whom I looked up to. RIP dear Colleen.
Every time I see Colleen Dewhurst speak, I become so deeply calm, like everything is going to be okay. I feel as if she must have been a very wise Native American woman in a past life who is very connected to the Earth.
My neighbor who died three years ago looked and acted exactly like Marilla, I loved her and I have always felt a connection with Colleen because of this.
I absolutely love Colleen Dewhurst...her deep raspy voice...the way she held herself...an that infamous laugh...she excited me and made me love her all the more for those qualities...a great actress
I am from Poland. I watched it during my childhood and I love this series, its atmosphere of a remote Canadian province, I grew up on a similar one in Poland. Great roles by great actors.
Such a beautiful movie… the entire series. It has remained one of my most favorite movies ever since I first saw it in the 70s. I believe it should be a pert of the rites of passage for every young girl. It leaves you with a joyful sense that the world is still capable of goodness and honor, integrity and loyalty, kindness, and most of all, love.
I watched these Anne of Green Gables shows years ago. Loved them. The ensemble were impeccable! Colleen Dewhurst has always been a favorite actress. Unmatched. ❤❤
Never saw the later Avonlea episodes. Grew up on the original miniseries, living 5 miles from the Canadian border. The Green Gables books were famous and I can say that, when the CBC and PBS collaborated to create this enduring work of art, people in our region waited for it like a Grand Event and were enraptured when it turned-out to be so excellent.
A class act indeed! You could always see the little girl she was in her eyes and when she smiled, she lit up the room every time! A kindred spirit dearly missed. 🌹💐
Oh how I truly loved this very dear lady, and even though she has passed on, I still carry her in my heart of hearts... she may not have been in my life personally, and yet through her portrayal of Marilla Cuthbert, she most certainly was! I looked to Marilla as a role model almost. She embodied in that character, my own Great Grandmother, and my Granny Kate; and so I truly related to Colleen Dewhurst... what a kindred spirit we have all lost.
When we first meet Marilla we think of her as a old hatched, then we find out its all a shell and she has a very warm heart who cares for the people around her. Only a very talented actress could pull that off.
Dewhurst: one of our unique geniuses. In addition to playing Marilla so indelibly, she would have (I believe) been incomparable playing author Terry Pratchett’s Granny Weatherwax-the stern, moral, austere (but secretly tenderhearted) “chief witch” in Pratchett’s renowned Discworld series of stories. It’s fun just imagining her in the part. As Marilla and so many other characters on stage and in film, however, she was and remains a marvel. We lost her too soon.
I first "met" Colleen Dewhurst in an old John Wayne movie called "The Cowboys". Her part was a small one, but I thought she was brilliant, and any time after that, I became very excited when I saw her name in movie or television credits. A great actress!
Yes, indeed! Colleen Dewhurst & Jackie Burroughs, (who played Hetty King, in Avonlea), are most definitely amongst my very favorite actresses. These 2 ladies enriched my life in childhood, & in adulthood! I am forever grateful to them, and Megan Follows, as well; #rolemodelsandkindredspirits
I remember that movie. I always thought she was like a female version of John Wayne. Kind of like Katherine Hepburn---a twinkle in her eye, a quick smile/grin, and a "tough, ol' bird," but lovable.
Some of these clips are from one of my favorite episodes of the Avonlea TV series (made after the movie, I believe). It's called "The Materialization of Duncan" in which first Rachel Lind and then the ladies of the sewing circle keep unintentionally hurting Marilla's feelings about being a lifelong spinster. It's a marvelous episode in turns heart wrenching, poignant, and funny (Marilla really has a great sense of subtle, understated humor).
It's funny I suppose but as a guy, I quite enjoyed this show, I think because it was a period piece. And I love the Canadian scenery, and yes I believe it was shot on Prince Edward Island so still part of Canada. And yes it's a pity that she and the guy that played her brother has also passed away
@@rubylace9963 yeah I think you can even find a clip of her in that movie here on RUclips. She was in this other 80s movie called Ice Castles where she gives a great performance. She’s always yelling and drinks and smokes too much. If you love Colleen Dewhurst you will love her in this too
@@rubylace9963 yeah I woundnt steer you in the wrong direction hon. If you have peacock network app she’s in a great Alfred Hitchcock episode. What I love about Colleen is that she’s an extremely versarile actress. She’s gone from playing a pristine character to a crazy yet fun, drunk lady which is very shocking though she she’s got the acting Chops to make you believe she can pay these very different characters. . It’s what always made myself love her that much more!
Oh I love her too!!! What show is this??? I don’t remember this part of Marilla and Rachel’s life in either Anne of Green Gables or Anne of Avonlea!!! I want to see this!!!
This is from Road To Avonlea. There are 7 seasons and a Christmas movie. You can watch here: www.gazebotv.com/road-to-avonlea and you can learn more about the series here: www.roadtoavonlea.com/
Young when she was alive; love her so much from Anne and Boy Who Could Fly..... watching movie with parents before we went to PEI; Dad couldn't place name with face.... Marilla DID have a beau back in day... had she married Mr. Blyth Gil and Anne never would have gotten together (or have there been a Gil)!
She did a great job as the haunting demonic voice of the arch-demon Pazuzu in the Exorcist IIII, scary enough to rival Mercedes McCambridge's performance in the original. You can tell just by listening to her talking how right she would be for that part. Also odd how her Pazuzu was up against George C. Scott, her twice former husband.
Also check out Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea, in addition to the Road to Avonlea series! I promise you, you'll not be disappointed a bit, and its worth every penny! These dvds are all amongst my prized possessions! 😍

I saw Ms. Dewhurst today on a 1970's episode of The Big Valley. Typically she plays the role of a stern, rather gruff character. But interestingly it was so long ago, even with grey hair I thought, "Hmm, she's actually rather attractive". So after a little digging I found a few rare, early photos of her. And yep, sure enough... she was beautiful back then.
I melted watching this! Colleen Dewhurst didn't play Marilla Cuthbert......she was Marilla!
Colleen steals EVERY scene she's in. All she has to do is roll her eyes, and I die every time...
