Quick recap
Sharon Burch from the Liberated Nurse Entrepreneurs Business Development Community facilitated a group coaching call to help participants with their business questions and challenges. The participants shared their experiences and challenges related to their respective business ideas, with Sharon providing guidance and advice. The conversation ended with a discussion on various topics, including pricing strategies and marketing techniques.
Nurse Business Ideas and Challenges
Lori, Leah, and Nyempu shared their experiences and challenges related to their respective business ideas. Lori, a nurse coach, is focusing on diabetic clients and has found the Liberated Nurse Business Incubator program to be a valuable resource.
Leah, a nurse practitioner, is considering starting her own business. Nyempu, a nurse consultant, is deciding whether to continue with her business or focus solely on her nonprofit organization. Sharon provided guidance, suggesting that Nyempu focus on one business to avoid being stretched too thin.
Building Practices and Niche Exploration
Jennifer, a NICU nurse, expressed her interest in starting a practice focused on teaching healthy cooking and eating habits to improve people's lifestyles and potentially reverse illnesses. Sharon suggested that Jennifer conduct market research and engage in conversations with potential clients to better understand their needs and problems.
Traci, a nurse care coordinator, also expressed interest in coaching, but was unsure about her niche. Sharon advised Traci to try different niches and engage with potential clients to better understand their needs.
Handling Client Payment and Sessions
Barbara shared her experience of having a two-hour session with a client who wanted to discuss health coaching. She was unsure how to handle the situation when the client wanted to pay for the session on the spot, rather than following the plan she had set up. Sharon advised her to accept the payment and suggested that she could either have a 30-minute discovery call or jump right into the coaching sessions. Sharon also advised Barbara to have a clear process in place for future clients, including a consent form and clear pricing.
Charging for Nursing Services Discussed
Barbara and Sharon discussed the pricing for Barbara's services, which include a discovery call, paperwork review, and coaching sessions. Barbara expressed hesitation about charging professional rates. Jennifer suggested that nurses need to learn to value themselves. The group agreed that this was a significant challenge for nurses starting their own businesses.
Setting Hourly Rates and Trauma-Informed Approach
Sharon suggested that Barbara's hourly rate should be higher than the package price, and it should be communicated to clients after they have expressed interest in the service. Sharon also emphasized the importance of taking a trauma-informed approach to marketing, asking for permission or consent before presenting the details of their services.
Pricing Strategies and Client Engagement
Lori shared her experience of landing her first paying client, who agreed to an 18-session package costing $2,700. Lori emphasized the importance of practicing the pricing conversation to make it feel natural. Lori confirmed that she prsents her prices after a discovery call to ensure she can genuinely help the client. The group agreed this approach helps build trust and credibility with potential clients.
Confidence and Pricing in Client Discussions
Lori emphasized the importance of confidence when discussing pricing with clients and focusing on the clients' desired outcomes and the value they receive. Sharon advised checking what other licensed health professionals charge in the location. Leah also inquired about HIPAA forms, and Sharon suggested using templates from nurse coaching schools or social media groups, or platforms like DocuSign or Google Drive. Jennifer added that she uses DocuSign for HIPAA forms and Google Forms for questionnaires.
Pricing Strategies and Marketing Techniques
The participants shared their key takeaways from the session, with most focusing on the importance of pricing and marketing. Lori shared her experience of joining the Liberated Nurse Business Incubator program, emphasizing its benefits in providing a solid foundation.
