There were a lot of great folk artists who came together to make this concert the success it ultimately became, but the Punch Brothers deserve special recognition for playing and backing on so many of the songs that were performed.
Great- 2 locations with a wonderful cometogether and Marcus Mumford at his best. Great job of the band as well, the mandolin, acoustic guitar and violine... wow.
Neat! Pete Seeger's version on the 'We Shall Overcome' concert album is a stunner. Glad to see/hear other versions, since actual Dylan recordings are few. (TR's version is or course nice.)
Oh it's fare thee well my darlin' true, I'm leavin' in the first hour of the morn. I'm bound off for the bay of Mexico Or maybe the coast of Californ. So it's fare thee well my own true love, We'll meet another day, another time. It ain't the leavin' That's a-grievin' me But my true love who's bound to stay behind. Oh the weather is against me and the wind blows hard And the rain she's a-turnin' into hail. I still might strike it lucky on a highway goin' west, Though I'm travelin' on a path beaten trail. So it's fare thee well my own true love, We'll meet another day, another time. It ain't the leavin' That's a-grievin' me But my true love who's bound to stay behind. I will write you a letter from time to time, As I'm ramblin' you can travel with me too. With my head, my heart and my hands, my love, I will send what I learn back home to you. So it's fare thee well my own true love, We'll meet another day, another time. It ain't the leavin' That's a-grievin' me But my true love who's bound to stay behind. I will tell you of the laughter and of troubles, Be them somebody else's or my own. With my hands in my pockets and my coat collar high, I will travel unnoticed and unknown. So it's fare thee well my own true love, We'll meet another day, another time. It ain't the leavin' That's a-grievin' me But my true love who's bound to stay behind. I've heard tell of a town where I might as well be bound, It's down around the old Mexican plains. They say that the people are all friendly there And all they ask of you is your name. So it's fare thee well my own true love, We'll meet another day, another time. It ain't the leavin' That's a-grievin' me But my true love who's bound to stay behind
Very wonderful Bob Dylan song. Marcus and The Punch Brothers giving a great performance. But I wonder what the presence of the Coen brothers is in the first part of the clip. Or are they just interested.
I don't think he knows the impact he's had on milions of people. If he hadn't collaborated with the Coen Brother's on so many movies, a lot of music would still be niche only. Because of Oh Brother, where art thou, bluegrass music has become my go to music no matter the mood.
What is this from? I mean you got Marcus Mumford doing an awesome cover and Joel and Ethan Coen hanging out with T. Bone Burnett smoking a fucking fat joint. What an awesome video!!
Beautiful segway into the live performance! Oh why oh why didn't Marcus & the boys stay acoustic w/the bluegrass sound?? Their new stuff...terrible. :(
Chris Thile on mandolin - Technically to Marcus' left - and Chris Eldridge to his right on acoustic. Both members of The Punch Brothers. As someone else mentioned - one heck of a back-up band!
It’s actually English. Documented by an American. Reinroduced on record by Ewan MacColl. Then, the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem made it popular in Ireland. And, a lot of others played it too.
@@garad123456 Oldy enough, a ton of ppl did that with his too (Jimi). I guess I can kind of be forgiven cuz isn't that sort of thing with folk songs...
dadude415 It's something like.. Inside The Music of Inside Llewyn Davis. I forget the actual title. It's a music concert for the movie Inside Llewyn Davis.
There were a lot of great folk artists who came together to make this concert the success it ultimately became, but the Punch Brothers deserve special recognition for playing and backing on so many of the songs that were performed.
Great to see Marcus with the super-talented and amazing Punch Brothers!
I have been listening to this version for the last 1 hour.
Im addicted as well!
Me too
I have this on a loop and have played it for the last 3 days! LOVE IT!! Thank you for posting.
Great- 2 locations with a wonderful cometogether and Marcus Mumford at his best. Great job of the band as well, the mandolin, acoustic guitar and violine... wow.
What an excellent arrangement of this song and performance. Nicely done, and I am not a Mumford and Sons fan, but I am a big Dylan fan. Kudos gents.
Just to clarify, this video is NOT of Mumford & Sons, but rather Marcus Mumford & the Punch Brothers (Chris Thile, et al.)
Pure acoustic gold…well played lads!!
I love everything about this video... thanks for posting! If your viewing numbers suddenly surge upward, it's just me playing this on repeat. :)
You are one of very few women I know that appreciates this. Are you single?
Love it! Marcus is so talented!
If the movies was called Being Marcus Mumford it would have been huge
Genius performance of one of Bob's unheralded gems.
its not a Dylan song, daresay he covered it, but he didnt write it....also known as "the leaving of Liverpool" 19th c
cover versions He did write it in Jan, ‘63.
Ok - an interpretation.
I absolutely adore Mumford and Sons by far my favorite band. I hope and pray I see them live someday!
Oh and they nailed this cover
This is really Punch Bros ft. Marcus
@@SUperStanisz oh ok well then... Thanks.... I was just stating I love Mumford and sons

A delightful rendition. Thank you friend.
Dare I say, greatest cover of Dylan of all time. Up there with Jimi Hendrix's Like a Rolling Stone live. Bob Dylan's Grandmother. Lol.
Tangled up in Blue Jerry Garcia cover is pretty good too.
Chris Smither and Bonnie Raitt - Desolation Row.

One of the best performances of one of the greatest songs, period.
I'd add Tony Rice' version also.

Nice work on the switch from studio to live. Very well done.

@@korayerbey2314 when the video switched from the studio to the concert hall. I didnt explain that very well in my original post.

They directed it so that's probably why they are there.
Love this!
STUNNING!
This is BEAUTIFUL!❤
Thank you so much for this edit you sir are a gentleman
Great job!
Concert was in support of the Inside Llewan Davis movie, produced by the Coen brothers.
I do like this a lot, but Dylan's version is one his all time great interpretations of his own songs.
It's an 18th century English folk song.
Their mothers must be soooo proud!
freaking love it
Danke
With everything he's seen/heard, I wonder what it would take to get a "holy shit" from T-bone Burnett
I don't think he knows the impact he's had on milions of people. If he hadn't collaborated with the Coen Brother's on so many movies, a lot of music would still be niche only. Because of Oh Brother, where art thou, bluegrass music has become my go to music no matter the mood.

Is that Jack Ashford (from Motown's Funk Brothers) on Tambourine??
Thank you

I wouldn't say terrible. But I do see your point.
The Punch Brothers definitely kill it in all these performances, it'd be cool to see a whole album collaboration with them and Marcus Mumford.
Some backup band... (The Punch Brothers). Damn
The Coen brothers produced the Inside Llewyn Davis movie. The concert and film were in regard to the movie.\
Robert Zimmerman rewrites Leaving Liverpool

No idea Jude law could rock the mandolin like that
I get feedback with 1 mic and 1 amp..... Jesus.

anyone know why T-Bone Burnett keeps lighting this piece of wood?
It's a smudge stick make of sage. Smudging is an ancient ritual of American Indians for cleansing and blessing a space and/or person.
You've never lit a doobie at a show?
Perhaps Norwegian Wood.
Im sure this comment has already been made but how is that one guy not George Steinbrenner at 1:06 watching over his investment?
Is the Tambourine player the guy from the Funk Brothers?
This where the movie got it's title.
who is that to Marcus' right? Not Chris Thile
cameron tucker Chris Eldridge
Chris Thile on mandolin - Technically to Marcus' left - and Chris Eldridge to his right on acoustic. Both members of The Punch Brothers. As someone else mentioned - one heck of a back-up band!
unreal
Dylan didn't write this song. He just adapted the lyrics from The Leaving of Liverpool, and old irish folk song. Sorry if I burst anyone's bubble
Correct. My comment was in response to a lot of comments on here that seemed to think Dylan wrote the song.
So he did write this, but he stole the melody
@@johnsmith-zw9yp he wrote the lyrics, yeah, but did not write the melody
It’s actually English. Documented by an American. Reinroduced on record by Ewan MacColl. Then, the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem made it popular in Ireland. And, a lot of others played it too.
Wait, this is a Dylan song? Is this not a bastardised "Leaving of Liverpool?"
It's both! Dylan wrote this song based on the traditional folk ballad "Leaving of Liverpool" :-)
Sounds pretty much the same to me I heard it as an old Irish folk song
Not the last time Bob took a song changed a couple words and called it his own 😅
