  • Here we see Shaun Ricker (LA Knight) cutting a demo promo for WWE NXT in mid 2013.
    He went by the ring name Slate Randall and was used primarily as enhancement talent until his release on August 1, 2014.

    Got to love how he stayed true to his motto's or catchphrases. He may have not made it into WWE 10yrs ago, but he kept the ball going and now look where he's at. He stayed committed to his word.

      ​@@Crudes.Roman was initially HHH's guy. Punk wanted Ohno/Chris Hero as the 3rd Shield guy, but he was at odds with the management. Vince suggested Big E, but HHH insisted on Roman. He then won over Vince and he made him the no. 1 and stuck with it.
      Similar story with Cena. Wasn't Vince's guy at first. Stephanie is the one that vouched for him

    He looked slightly awkward at times with the hand movements but he got more confident as the promo progressed. The first sparks of LA Knight were demonstrated here.

    When i learnt he was 40, i was wondering where has someone this good been this whole time. Shame that WWE didn't see his value early on. Its rare to get introduced to someone this good at promos. If Vince hadn't retired he would have been just be a manager for Maximum Male Models which is just wasting his talent.

    It still baffles me how they passed up on him at the time. He’s 6’2 easily and more than 220lbs. He got the movie star looks and charisma. His in ring work may have not been there but neither was Roman Reigns

    I think LA Knight made the right decision going to iMPACT, only because the money, he got to work on his character more, and do more on the indies. Now, he's been employed with WWE and his current run showcases how this man has been running with the same gimmick for years now and it's gotten even more over.

      He said he was told his release was due to having heat backstage, that some people didn't like the way he carried himself. He also said WWE wanted him back the following year but he prefered staying with TNA because they proposed more money.

    WWE had nothing they could change, he was already the full package. Back in 2013, all they wanted to do was repackage people so they could own the characters. A bunch of guys since then have kept their names and gimmicks, but a lot of them have left or aren't really being used.

    It’s alright that they didn’t hire him earlier on at this point. He would’ve ended up most likely buried by Cena, or lost in the shuffle as a jobber and released before they ever realized what they had in their hands

      Except Styles left TNA in 2013. He went to NJPW and Ring of Honor a year later and joined Bullet Club as its second leader. A 2 year run.
