"the game looks like us" contextually they were even talking about how they were claiming they were putting their own artistic spin on it (my personal opinion is that they were doing the best they could with the skills and ppl they had)
It really feels like theres a culture behind the scenes where people in office setting are afraid to tell others their work is bad and their efforts arent good enough....
I must agree with your comment. I work in game dev myself for over 8 years and the culture of patting on the back read - "Good Job Guys!" is overwhelming even when project is getting trashed because of its bad design, art style etc.

Imagine putting your heart and soul for the game only for the game fails so bad, you have to shut down the studio forever. That is just sad.
How could they focus so much on the art and not realizing that the game itself actually sucks. The art is not bad but that meaningless if the game is boring.

the budget was way too less. 5 million € for lord of ring(s) franchise is not enough. you need minimum 100 million to develop a game like this...
I partially dissagree with your art opinion. Where environments are kinda digestive, the characters and creatures especially gollum looks really bad. By bad, I mean really poorly executed and "art is subjective" saying is irrelevant here. Gollum especially, is made really, really bad almost like by unexperienced student. It's primary and secondary forms are out of place not menioning ugly texturing.
@@Tomas-ds6kf Gollum looks ugly in a bad way. They are 30 years too late with the Release. It looks oldfashioned and almost everything is boring and it feels like hard work in a mine for the brain.
And i dont wanna know how the Gollum Story ends...
@@Tomas-ds6kf The environments aren't the worst I've seen, but yeah, Gollum looks terrible. And so do a lot of the other characters. And then it's even worse when you see how bad the animation is. Combined with all the facial/hair glitches... I could keep going, but I'm sure everyone has already heard how absolute shit the game is.
One thing I do not understand: Why did you give Gollum this hair?

Exactly this. Everybody is pissing on how bad the game is, but i believe it’s also good to show/feel some sympathy towards the devs that worked many years on this. Just imagine being in their shoes. How awful would this feel.

GOD I feel sorry for these guys. I mean I can tell that the lot of them were so adamant in trying to make this be as good as it can be but for one reason or another, it ended up being so bafflingly broken. Even after a half a year long delay from its initial release. I'm not one to believe that they were set in making this as awful as it ended up being, but it really could've been better.
I'm guessing that the title was too much for them to handle as it's such a total departure of what they're typically known for but even so, it really shows that something like this needed much MUCH more time put onto it. Either that or at least restarted from scratch.
I don't know what exactly happened to this game's production behind the scenes over the last few years, but at this point, it probably would've been better as a point and click adventure game at least; because as many of those that have played it failed to realize, that IS what this company's been primarily known for prior to this.
Had it ended up being made as something they've been more familiar with, it might have ended up resulting in differing reactions depending on what state they decided to release this in.

The sad downfall of a great Point-and-Click-Adventure Studio, only because the management team accepted an project, thats not near what they did before. They went from 2D to 3D, had to make better graphics and so much more. The programmer arent the problem, they are the one who suffers the most

Dude, I'd have rather played as anyone in LOTR than Gollum. He's the most uninteresting, boring character to design a game around. He works in a movie or book, but in a videogame it's just an awful decision to base an entire game around fucking Gollum. Lol.
Pretty sure there was already a Aragorn centric game years ago.
@@AdoreYouInAshXI I disagree completely man. There was a lot of potential in the whole split personality aspect of his character alone that would've been befitting in a BioWare or Telltale like game. Heck, I could see aspects of that during those Argument segments. It's just unfortunate that it wasn't utilized well enough in a better designed game.

They weren't set on ruining it right from the get go. Something must've set this on such a disastrous path over the years of its development, I bet.

Regarding the art style....can't say I like how they depicted Elves, I mean they look rather weird....while they should be easy since they are supposed to be very beautiful creatures, there is something...cartoony about it and exaggerated, stylized though now as they explain it was intentional but oh well not everything needs to be hyperrealistic or something, still the sense of realism should be there, as Tolkien's world is 'realistic'. With Shelob...well she IS a demon entity, she is smart and intelligent, capable of communicating and she made a deal with Gollum, so this could have been explored this lore relation between Gollum and Shelob, him 'worshipping' her, and she using her mental powers over him as we learn from books "darkness of her evil will walked through all the ways of his weariness beside him, cutting him off from light and from regret. And he had promised to bring her food."...this could have been given extended story explanation...luring victims for her and moral dilemmas.
Damn this interview will be a branding for the developer showing their face and will go in history the worst game ever for of butchering Lotr.

This is not a bad game, it is very charming and the graphics and art direction is actually really cool. Don’t be a sheep and talk shit about it and let people enjoy this game. There are clearly people who put love and effort into it.
The graphics are dated as hell, the performance and optimisation are beyond atrocious, it's ridiculously buggy, the gameplay is soulless...
Just because you like the game, doesn't mean everyone else is a sheep lmao
@@dmaxwell910901 The graphics look absolutely fine at some points and the especially the backgrounds look pretty good, and there are alot of games that have similar looking textures but nobody calls it out there but here people go crazy. And I would love to know of ps2 era games that have better graphics than this which is what Everybody is saying. There is definitly a unique and serious art direction in this game and you can tell that the people who worked on it cared and tried their best with the recources that they had. It’s a very small team. And for a team that small it is absolutely fine. Let people who enjoy it enjoy it. And btw I never Said that I’m a fan of it personality but I am defending the people who put effort into making it and the people who think it’s a fun game. Just leave it alone, sheep.

Also, having that level of graphics whilst running *that* poorly is just inexcusable.
