Excellent review and video, I just bought a 15 Regal GS and so far I’m very happy and very surprised with it. The new MSRP is a bit much for what it is but I feel that getting one lightly used like mine with under 60K on the clock is a market where these cars will really shine. You get all of those features in a fairly quick good handling good looking car for under $20K....that’s pretty hard to beat if you ask me
Soyfan: You'll be relieved to know that in 3 years with our Regal (Turbo, not GS - not a fan of the fangs-front-end), ZERO rattles from the interior... zero problems of any kind. And I like that "gaudy" chrome you mentioned - I like it even more that it inspires polarizing reactions... Finally, the FLIP KEY that annoys you: There's a discrete manual key slot, in case your smartkey fails. Hyundai has it, too. Finally, no ONE TOUCH UP on rear windows - safety feature to prevent decapitating your children.
This is my second Regal GS since 2012 and just bought a 2017. I've had really good ownership experience to include dealership interactions. No major issues mechanically or with driveline and has been lower maintenance costs than a previous VW GTI that I really enjoyed but was a bit noisy and not comfortable for longer road trips. The only major problem I had with prior GS was the damn key fob, but I think it's because it got too wet, more my fault. The GS is an excellent interstate cruiser and with your radar detector on, you can eat up miles of highway in comfort, style and is fully capable of handling twisty road, ramps, inclines and passing with authority and ease. Sofan you are right, that bright chromed bezel around the PRNDL does reflect and glare right into your eyes! I had the door and trim technicians at the dealership paint it a flat black when I took delivery of my 2017, problem solved. This car is refined and quiet and the Regal GS can deceive a casual test driver into thinking the car is not very quick, until they look down at their speedometer. Most of the professional car publications, put 0-60 at 6.2 seconds if the drivers know how to properly launch the GS. The closest competitor for the GS is actually the VW CC (not and Audi A4) which I cross shopped, but the interior headroom was even more limiting and confined for me.
Yes I've actually driven both, the Buick was quieter to my ear. I seemed to hear more tires noise in the 300,that Buick was able to tune out of the Regal chassis.
I own a 2012 GS and this thing is butter smooth and has much more mechanical grip than the average driver knows what to do with. Buick Regal holds a very weird sort of bookend place to my past career as a car salesman being both the very first new car I ever sold, and also one of the last deals I tried to put together before I left the dealership life, at least on the GM side.

I think this reviewer is very honest. However, I wonder why he would like to change the car to make it into the Cadillac ATS? My previous car was a GTP Comp G with a tune and some bolt-ons. I replaced it with the 2014 regal turbo awd (trifecta tune) and had a race just for fun. The GTP was just barely faster from a stop, but got walked at above 70 mph. The old Regal GS had 20 less hp than the comp G and would get rekt by the new one. Just saying from experience.

Sofyan, history is important but I would like to see you go into these reviews of American cars with a little more objectivity. America isn't #1 (not considering China) in the number of cars it makes per year for no reason. I notice (as I have been watching your reviews for a while now) that you tend to be more negative towards American cars. The cars have improved greatly and in a lot of cases have been good from the start. I would like to see you review what you are driving and not what was driven a decade or decades ago.
FactFive The Regal simply represents GM when they were still cutting corners. We've said nothing but positive things on newer models such as the ATS/CTS, Corvette, Canyon, and Escalade/Yukon/Tahoe triplets.
***** So, your complaint is a key? Look, I have a Japanese car. I have always driven Japanese cars. However, I maintain an open mind. My first car was Japanese because the American counterpart wasn't very appealing to me. You mentioned GM's ignition problems, it was the other day Toyota recalled almost 10 million vehicles for faulty gas pedals. No car brand is without its problems. GM's problem was complacency and maybe it took stiff competition and a bankruptcy to turn them around. But I believe the turn around was for the better and not the worst. And I believe the cars they are producing now are worthy of a review not connotated by what they were 10 or 15 years ago (at least when it comes to everyman cars). How good is the car? Does it serve it's intended purpose well? How does it stack up against the competition?
FactFive GM still makes crap and cuts corners even if it means death for its customers (eg. ignition switches). The switchgear is all cheap and breaks easily, they have many software issues, and outdated engines and styling. They should have been bankrupt as the Company was run into the ground and pissed all of their money away, but my tax dollars (and yours) came to the rescue at the destain of almost everyone. abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/gm-recalling-780k-suvs-fix-power-lift-gate-32352458 money.cnn.com/infographic/pf/autos/gm-recall-timeline/ fortune.com/2013/02/14/10-big-problems-for-general-motors/
WarmSoftKitty Are you kidding me? GM has killed people with ignition problems and always cuts corners on interiors in some of their vehicles. Their Camaro's interior, for example. The media covers up some things but these stories are true.
Eight speed comes in 2018 in the redesign and the engine in the GS is rumored to be a V6 with 305 hp. Lighter weight will mean better gas mileage and acceleration. Good luck with that money buying the TLX instead. This was done a year ago when the TLX was new and unfortunately, the new 8 speed and 9 speed transmissions are prematurely failing and going into dealerships for repair. Honda has a terrible tendency on transmission redesigned the last few generations on the V6 engines having massive transmission problems. The 2001 Acura TL and 2003 Honda Accord V6 I owned both blew their transmissions multiple times starting as low as 30,000. My neighbor bought the Acura TLX with the 9 speed and after 27,000 lost his transmission - and then had to wait two weeks to get it back because of the backlog of transmissions being repaired (7 in front of him). I note that my luck with Honda is continuing for my neighbors unfortunately. Their four cylinder transmissions on the other hand are durable.
Im really thinking about getting this car over a SHO; i love everything about this car but the 2 liter this model looks a lot better than the 2019 but that one comes with the 310hp v6 compared to the 340 v6 in the SHO
It's basically the same car as my 2010 Saab 93 Aero. The 2010 Saab was a GM product and had the same engine and transmission as the 2011 Regal. I'm pretty sure Buick still sources the engine from Germany and the transmission from Japan as they did for the 2010 Saab. If you look ata a 2010 Saab 93 and the Regal side by side, the body shape and size are almost Identical .... What does all of this mean? Probably not much but I can tell you that my 2010 Saab has 160,000 miles and other then a defective drive shaft at around 110K miles and a bad wheel bearing at 145K miles,, I haven't had any major issues with this car. There is however a great deal of turbo lag when accelerating.
He made a point of saying the avg age of Buick owners was 70 down to 60. Wrong is 60 down to 50 maybe high 40's. No one is living off the sales to 70 yr olds just not going to happen.
Phillip Wooden Phillip Wooden He knows what it’s for. I think his point was that many other manufacturers hide their key in the key fob (instead of having a switchblade style key). Such as Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infiniti, Toyota/Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar/Land Rover, Cadillac, etc. Personally, I think it’s a little disappointing that GM didn’t carryover the Cadillac key fobs to Buick, as I feel similar to Sofyan’s comment about how unfortunate it is that the key fob looks like it came from a Chevrolet (which it did), but then again, it’s just a key fob.
Too bad the Regal is the no. 1 traded in car after a year of ownership. I love the Regal GS and its looks but it is a tad bit expensive after getting it fully loaded like I would want. Good review! I hope Buick keeps the GS around for a while and cleans up on some of those fit and finish issues!
ThaBestStarks Buick offer current model cars 6 months earlier in the year. The 2-year with early lease return it is possible to turn Regal over in about a year.
The red tincoat color is an extra $500 and looks way better than the $1000 black in this video! My father just got one in the red and it looks so slick. Put my red A4 next to it and the Buick just looks sharper and faster.
Not a fan of the chrome around the shiftier either. Reminds me when VW/Audi did that in the early 2000s it scratches so easily and looks ugly when the car is older
I agree with you Redline, Buick hasn't taken this vehicle far enough. I say why did not a Reaper of a grand national. Dodge has no problem creating the Hellcat which overpowers the piper why not have a extreme powered Buick since Fox 5 want to talk about "history".
Those rims are not gaudy! Stick to facts and stop being so subjective. Oh and the key is to unlock the doors in car you have loss of power. EVERY push button start car has one also.
That is 100% correct. Every smart-key car that I know of also comes with a manual key. As for the styling, some people are total minimalists and want to blend in with the crowd... and some of us like a little bright and a little bling served with our cars - like us Regal owners.
these cars are amazingly cheap now, I searched a few up and they're around 13-20k... I'm actually considering this or a Ford taurus SHO this looks better, is smaller, lighter, but the SHO is faster, more roomy, and interior is better but costs more
Phantom Session the SHO was the second biggest piece of shit I’ve EVER driven, the only worse car was 2005 jeep and it was worse because of reliability issues. Although sho is reliable it sucks to drive and is non stop full of shitty design choices; for one it has no gauges, no tire pressure display, shitty to drive despite power I was very dissatisfied. Fucking stickers. That’s what buttons on center console looked like with a million barely closing panels for a million different things. Looked shitty af
Well maybe its just me.. I've had the privilege of owning many nice cars over the years and not once have I ever cared about what a keyfob looks like or had any friends or family that cared either. Now if that's important to you then that's just fine, but to me my investment is what I drive not what I stick in my pocket for some not to even see..
Drove a couple of these in the past, was not impressed. Acceleration is a bleak affair with a completely uninspiring engine. Handling is OK, good for a Buick...but I would expect more out of an almost $40,000 "sports sedan". I was disappointed, because the GS is a car that I wanted to like.
The Buick is pretty good but still typical GM. It's like a never ending dream where you never reach the top or get where you're trying to go. GM never quite makes the mark. Very frustrating because there is no reason they can't do it. Hell I would pay Lexus money for this car if it was as well built because it would be a better car.
To you and everyone else who makes this comment (over and over and...) You see, here's the thing: No one else here needs to look it up - because that is not brand-new information. We all know.
I'm no fan of sedans (I think they're boring and useless), but I do have to give Buick credit for trying to go after younger buyers. It's just a shame that for both the Regal and the smaller Verano (which if I were in the hunt for something luxurious) I have to pay top dollar for the optional manual transmission (and they both can come in that transmission).l
I'm only 200 pounds and my butt didn't fit in the the 2012 GS front seat. The side base bolstering made the seat too narrow and were too firm. The interior for me is disappointing, it isn't as nice as reviewers make out. I don't see Buick as near luxury though the upcoming Lacrosse may be the closest that Buick has gotten to that label.
Veyronp87 The GS shits all over the TLX in handling with the hiper strut similar to Civic Type-R dual axis strut. The torque vectoring Haldex rear differential works well too.
The point is that people are buying them both. One example, both Buick and Cadillac sales - individually, each - in the U.S. alone were more than twice the total sales of Lincoln… Globally, Buick outsells many brands, including Lexus. It would be a mistake to eliminate either brand, since they both have a market that is engaging them.
How are GMs sales these days considering the whole ignition-switch fiasco? Quite shady. Whenever I see a new GM(any of their brands) on the road I wonder why would anyone buy one when there's so many better or comparable options these days and their average buyer age is still way over 50 years old. Perhaps it's time for GM to just fade away?
If I was going to target this market, I'd go for the V6 TLX. Looks Better when you load it up, get the sunroof, and some nice paint. Sit the Buick and a Loaded TLX side by side, you just want to drive the Acura. Looks BETTER! MORE POWER!!! In terms of interior, the Acura isn't as Spacious as the Buick. But the Acura has Nice looking dual screens, and a PUSH BUTTON TRANSMISSION!!!! Thats just fucking SICK!!! So in My Opinion the Acura has this bastard BEAT!!! Now of course I say that, but the 2015 Nissan Maxima has BOTH these sombitches Beat!!!!! Now I say that, but the Hyundai Genesis V8 has ALL these bastards Beat. !!! Funny how that works Huh!?
+KenniTheKid Lexus more aggressive? In what sense? They're pretty bland to me. The ES and IS are a snooze-fest. And also, what about younger buyers? The average age of a Buick buyer, according to Forbes, is 57 while Lexus is 61, Mercedes is 54, and 49 for BMW. None of these is a spring chicken, but at the same time, Buick also doesn't attract the oldest buyer anymore. For the record, I'm 37 and own the Regal. Suits me just fine; however, my 73 year old colleague (who won't retire) drives a 2014 Lexus CT 200H lol.
Its actually 6.2 seconds when properly launched. Its actually 300lbs heavier than the base model because of the all wheel drive system. Turn off traction control, turn on gs and sport mode. It's faster than 7 seconds.
I hate that every single review of the 2014+ Regal Turbo & GS is an AWD version! That AWD brings the curb weight up over 4,000 pounds! It hurts the gas mileage, hurts the braking and handling, and makes the car slower on top of it. I have yet to see a 2014-15 Regal GS (FWD) tested at the track in 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto form. They've all been stupid AWD models. Being how sporty this car is, and how big the wheels are at 19" & 20", this just doesn't seem like the type of car you'd want AWD in. Especially with all the drawbacks I mentioned above. I would just get a set of new Bridgestone Blizzack WS80 snow tires for the FWD GS during the winters. I bet a FWD GS with Blizzacks will go damn near as good in the snow as an AWD GS with all season tires. AWD is not worth it with this car IMO. IDK, maybe it's just me...
+Chris McSorley'79 Oh, I forgot to mention that I still gave your review and video a like by the way, because I really enjoy all your reviews. I just wish you could have gotten a FWD model is all. No biggie though.

Redline Reviews nothing beats a Japanese car, most of they're cars are solid and really well built
Buicks are big in Philly we love them
Ain’t no doubt
He made a point of saying the avg age of Buick owners was 70 down to 60. Wrong is 60 down to 50 maybe high 40's. No one is living off the sales to 70 yr olds just not going to happen.
spyder61man Buick average buyer is 58-years and dropping. The Encore has really dropped the average age.
The key is a back up to get into the car I case the key fob battery dies
I question why a car reviewer wouldn't know that. To me that would only be common sense. lol
Phillip Wooden Phillip Wooden
He knows what it’s for.
Great videos. Are you going to do a review on the new ford edge and infinity q70?
Looking forward to it
What's the beeping while you're driving? Is that like a blind spot warning or something?
hi Sofyan, please do a review on 07 -08 TL type S.
deep aman Oh god I want this
zunedog31 mee too!!
deep aman He suggest getting a nice older TL over some shitbox Chevrolet.
@ Haris Qureshi TL tupe S for 07-08 was completely redesigned with powerful 285 hp engine.
zunedog31 well said.
The red tincoat color is an extra $500 and looks way better than the $1000 black in this video! My father just got one in the red and it looks so slick. Put my red A4 next to it and the Buick just looks sharper and faster.
Will Spinelli a coworker just picked up a 2017 GS in the red tint coat and it is sharp!
I think it looks pretty good
Not a fan of the chrome around the shiftier either.
Those wheels are some of the best to ever come stock on a car. Anything under 20 inch is ugly
You'e right. I just rediscovered this ca and I like it a lot.
I'm curious how this Regal GS AWD compares to TLX SH-AWD. They are quite similar in many ways.
Trades46 The GS may be more expensive but a Regal 2.0T AWD with torque vectoring AWD by Haldex should be much less.
yeah because 259 HP is such a tiny amount of power. definitely get a 400 HP model. because reasons
No mention on the options on the driver digital instrument cluster?
looks so good!
I'm actually considering this or a Ford taurus SHO
this looks better, is smaller, lighter, but the SHO is faster, more roomy, and interior is better but costs more
PH03NIX 7827 get the SHO
Phantom Session the SHO was the second biggest piece of shit I’ve EVER driven, the only worse car was 2005 jeep and it was worse because of reliability issues.
Although sho is reliable it sucks to drive and is non stop full of shitty design choices; for one it has no gauges, no tire pressure display, shitty to drive despite power I was very dissatisfied. Fucking stickers. That’s what buttons on center console looked like with a million barely closing panels for a million different things. Looked shitty af
Yes, get the SHO. That way, no one will notice you.
Review the 2018 Buick Regal GS.
Nice car, but I think I would pay a couple grand more and get a nicely equipped C400 4-matic.
marc1093280 Regal regularly sees 20-30% off MSRP.
And I like his reviews but always complaing about the key fobs is annoying.
keri ellerbe because a keyfob tells alot about the car you have. ;)
Lmao.
Well maybe its just me.. I've had the privilege of owning many nice cars over the years and not once have I ever cared about what a keyfob looks like or had any friends or family that cared either. Now if that's important to you then that's just fine, but to me my investment is what I drive not what I stick in my pocket for some not to even see..
keri ellerbe Imagine if you had a Tesla keyfob, the one that looks like the car. Show that to your friends and they will be wowed.
@joe Black I sure will...Lmmfaoo...In all honesty tho I was just saying and didn mean to sound jerky about it if it sounded that way.
10.7% of the 2014's are sold within a year of ownership.
Ivan Vojt That's a shocker! lol.
higashino keigo Yep, which was a rehash from an old article from May 1st 2015.
Ivan Vojt Those are a short term(24 month lease) purchase in the middle of 2013 with early lease return option.
Dennis Xu Short term lease from 2013 and a earley lease turn in can be done.
I regret buying my 2014 almost new. *sigh* I love it but damn it's not comfortable
It looks like Opel Insignia so much.
zsirosmenThat's because it is an Opel Insignia with Buick badges since we don't have Opel here.
zsirosmen it is opel insignia but in america called Buick and in England Vauxal
Can you do a review on jeep renegade
Do a review on an 07-012 Acura MDX plz
nick ray I agree !! I'd love to see what his take is on the 2010+ ones if he can review one.
Good review Sofa
whats that beeping that happens while he's driving?
I love the paint color
Really is a very nice looking car better than the insignia we have in the uk looks more aggressive them wheels are to die for 👤👍👌👏
Drove a couple of these in the past, was not impressed. Acceleration is a bleak affair with a completely uninspiring engine. Handling is OK, good for a Buick...but I would expect more out of an almost $40,000 "sports sedan". I was disappointed, because the GS is a car that I wanted to like.
randomocityvideos The Ecotec 2.0T likes premium fuel for best performance.
It is a pity you did not get the v6 2.8 turbo in the usa like we do here in Australia its great car but still a grand touring not a sports car
The Buick is pretty good but still typical GM. It's like a never ending dream where you never reach the top or get where you're trying to go. GM never quite makes the mark. Very frustrating because there is no reason they can't do it. Hell I would pay Lexus money for this car if it was as well built because it would be a better car.
iroc wrench Buick has passed Toyota for most reliable, mass produced manufacturer.
awesome, thank you much :)
Updated head lights? The interior follows exteriors design? It has history? Ever heard of Opel Insignia? Look it up.
Nice intro!
Buick gnx? That was something else
"Agressive styling"
The Center Console looks very very old, reminds me a bit of the Hyundai Santa
Naveen S You mean Sonata?
Nope, the Santa fe!
www.autos.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Santa_Fe_XL_11.jpg
Naveen S oh OK that was my second guess lol
Love this car and Justin don't even put this great car in the same sentence as the glorified KIA........SMH
Want younger buyers, bring back the Grand National. Change the entire company image like Mazda did back in 2002.
Soyfan, why aren't you using the old speedometer intro? That was perfect for your channel name
At $45k they are not going sell many of these cars at all. I seen one on the road so far.
Quang Lam Until the 20-30% off sales start.
That's why I picked mine up for 12k
@@jasonkresock2196 yeah 4 years later...
keep up the great work that you do!
remember the 2010 buick lacrosse.
Those are damn huge
I'm only 200 pounds and my butt didn't fit in the the 2012 GS front seat. The side base bolstering made the seat too narrow and were too firm. The interior for me is disappointing, it isn't as nice as reviewers make out. I don't see Buick as near luxury though the upcoming Lacrosse may be the closest that Buick has gotten to that label.
I'm only 230 and my butt loves our 2016 Regal (though not a GS - the seats are actually better in the non-GS versions).
people love to bash acura, but a TLX SH-AWD is a WAY better car for the money. 45k for this buick is a joke
+Veyronp87 Haha my thoughts exactly. Well said my friend! :)
45k for this buick would be a joke if it were 45k. But it wasnt nor is it now they get about 36,500 for an awd gs......
Looks like people like to bash Buick as well ; )
Veyronp87 The GS shits all over the TLX in handling with the hiper strut similar to Civic Type-R dual axis strut. The torque vectoring Haldex rear differential works well too.
Acuras are shit
$45,500 and it doesn't come with a spare tire?!?!
It saves on weight. And comes with a compressor pump. To save a damaged Tire.
sofyan is probably only used to driving import cars, with spoilers.
Why they try to cram, the 4 cylinder down our throats..??
We like the v6..
I’d rather get just a regular black.
This is a shame to the regals of previous generations. I want a v6.
Why does GM have both Buick and Cadillac, I don't understand the point of two luxury brands.
Acquisitions and Mergers
How are GMs sales these days considering the whole ignition-switch fiasco? Quite shady. Whenever I see a new GM(any of their brands) on the road I wonder why would anyone buy one when there's so many better or comparable options these days and their average buyer age is still way over 50 years old. Perhaps it's time for GM to just fade away?
m4fade Buick outsells most brands like Acura, Infinity, Cadillac... Most cars today have keyless entry and require no key to operate.
Sofyan can you please do the 2015 corolla s
George Carrion I'd like to see him review any Corolla trim, besides the lowest one of course :)
WuWei Xu yea
I got me a front wheel drive and I like it
Sorry but the starting price is much lower than the Lexus ES350 and not in the same category because of this.
Steve W No Lexus ES is based off economy car Toyota and offers no AWD. Not in the same category.
"Eco-Tech" not "Echo"- Tech" !
I like your reviews, but the wheels look good, not gotty.
Very beautiful ❤️
They still need to tweak the looks. Lexus are alot more aggressive in their pursuit for younger buyers and Buick needs to take notes.
I'm 38 and I am interested in the Regal.
+Calbenmike You're at the edge of the young buyer market, pretty much almost out of it. These guys want mid-late 20's to early-mid 30's.
KenniTheKid Great, I'm considered old.
+KenniTheKid
Lexus more aggressive? In what sense? They're pretty bland to me. The ES and IS are a snooze-fest. And also, what about younger buyers? The average age of a Buick buyer, according to Forbes, is 57 while Lexus is 61, Mercedes is 54, and 49 for BMW. None of these is a spring chicken, but at the same time, Buick also doesn't attract the oldest buyer anymore. For the record, I'm 37 and own the Regal. Suits me just fine; however, my 73 year old colleague (who won't retire) drives a 2014 Lexus CT 200H lol.
KenniTheKid Buick average buying age is 58-years old.
How in the world does this car compete with the Hyundai Genesis?! That's a little bit of a stretch...
Omg....you need to stop complaining so much!
Xxgott pa do a review on older Acura MDX
I gotta say i really like it, buttttt.....its still a Buick. They should've just brought it over as an Opel.
7 seconds for a 0-60 given that much horsepower and torque is slow as hell. I would get this over an ATS because of its more backseat legroom tho.
Its actually 6.2 seconds when properly launched. Its actually 300lbs heavier than the base model because of the all wheel drive system. Turn off traction control, turn on gs and sport mode. It's faster than 7 seconds.
When is a walrus aggressive
😂😂😂 Right?
I hate that saber tooth design.
I got mine without it!
One thing I noticed about You is that you really don't like American Made cars and it shows.
Can you do a 15 200
Andre Bambino a coworker just picked up a 2017 GS with 24K miles for a little more than that.
+Chris McSorley'79
Oh, I forgot to mention that I still gave your review and video a like by the way, because I really enjoy all your reviews. I just wish you could have gotten a FWD model is all. No biggie though.
Chris'sVids79...just needs a ecu tu e to put it well over 350 lb-ft of torque.
As I call it the 4 door luxury cobalt ss haha
Well at least you made yourSELF laugh...
