  • How to Transfer Mini DVD to MP4 files on a USB.
    MP4 files work with everything, as mentioned can be put on a USB drive or uploaded to cloud services such as Dropbox, Google photos. iCloud. Files can be imported into editing software such as iMovie, Adobe Premiere, Microsoft Photo’s video editor and more.
    There are ways to do it yourself, you can play through a DVD player, although the DVD’s need to be finalized in the original camcorder first to be playable on any DVD player. There were a few brands of camcorders so they’ll need to be finalized with a Sony etc if recorded on a Sony. Hitachi, Panasonic & Canon made dvd camcorders, although Sony dominated. Dvd camcorders aren’t sold anymore so you’ll have to use eBay, OfferUp or Craigslist to find one. Hopefully it all works, but expect to pay $50-$200 range
    You will need a USB capture device such as the one in the video, which is an Elgato brand. It’s about $100. Hook up your camcorder or DVD player to the card and then download the software via elgatos website (free). I recommend going into the settings and boosting the audio to +8, speakers on mobile devices and laptops sometimes don’t pack much of a punch so this will make sure the audio is decent for those devices.
    Once you have done that, set the file destination and give it a name to whatever the content is ex: ‘Christmas 2003’ and then hit play on the dvd and record on the software and away you go. Stop when done, you can trim out the blank on the front or back end, save the file and continue on with the next dvd.

    Buying a Sony mini dvd camcorder was a huge mistake. I don’t have it anymore and can’t watch the mini dvds I’ve been trying for years. What a HEADACHE 😩

    I have a Canon camcorder with mini dvds. I have been able to transfer a number of them to the computer. The problem I have run into is that some of the dual layer mini DVDs can only be read by the camera, and yes the discs are finalized. When I put them in any DVD player, they show as empty, or cannot be read at all. I have a video capture USB device, but when trying to copy them with a program like OBS, they indicate 780 X 240 resolution, so everything is stretched. Anyone have a suggestion for getting these transferred? Much obliged.

      I have never come across dual layer mini DVDs. The dual layer full size DVDs were a short run technology and we used them briefly but so many customers hit us back saying they were unreadable so we stopped using them.
      I rarely come across a mini dvd job that is straight forward.

    Hey, I have the same equipment as you same DVD player and everything. But the video image when viewed through elgato is “jumpy”. When viewed through the camcorder it is steady. I have hooked it up through a dvd player as well as straight from the camcorder using an av cable. Both are jumpy when viewed in the elgato program. What could be causing this distortion?
    **Also I tried this with multiple discs- even a normal store bought DVD video to see it it was how the DVD’s were burned and they are all jumpy.

      You need a player to capture the footage. You can capture via your camera but you’ll need the correct AV cables and also hooked up to power.

    Hi, I can’t get any of my discs to play in any DVD player, including a Blu-ray player. They won’t work in my laptop, they won’t work in our Blu-ray, and I’ve tried it in two other regular DVD players and even gave one to a friend to try in his stuff. Can’t get them to play in ANYTHING. They’re just TDK DVD-RW discs and have movies that were recorded on them using a SONY DC-VP171Wi camcorder. Our cameras reader broke and I have an exact model on the way to try and play them, does this mean I need to go through and finalise them all? Since it’s becoming clear that maybe they never were originally? And should I expect any issues along the way or will it be as simple as popping each disc in and just finding the finalise option in the cameras menu?

    • @gotmemories
      @gotmemories  3 года назад

      Yes you have to finalize all of them to view. You’ll need the original song camcorder. If you don’t have one, we can finalize them and digitize them to a flash drive or email you a download link that you can also share with friends and family! Drop a call or text to 6023269167 for pricing and order info!

      @@gotmemories Just waiting for the one I’ve purchased in the mail, it’s model type is identical to the one we had, only it’s coming from the other side of the damn globe so it’s taking it’s sweet a## time. Any clue as to how long it takes? I managed to find the instructions for our model and it outlines all that needs to be done to finalise them thankfully.

      @@gotmemories hey mate. I got the camera today and the discs work, got to finalize them, except one. It just won’t finalize, it does all the loading on the screen and stuff and then goes back to the menu to show that you can still finalize it and in info it says it’s unfinalized. I’ve tried it multiple times. It goes through the process but it just won’t finalize it. It doesn’t come up with an error or anything.

    A little off topic; Is it possible to copy stored videos on a DVD recorder's harddisc straight to a USB flash drive, if it has a USB port? That way i could skip the DVD burning process. Thanks.
