zu speakers review - Видеоклипы
Have you heard or own Zu Audio speakers? What is your favorite model?
I own the DW MkII with upgraded capacitors. They sound amazing, huge tone. I’m pairing it with a vintage Yamaha amp.
@@jakedavis2838Cool! These Zu's are the BOMB with vintage gear! Two pair of Zu's here, and two vintage Sansui receivers!
I own a pair of Zu Omen Def Supreme's that have the upgrades. They are absolutely amazing. I love their sound and performance. I was fortunate to find them for sale locally and Zu confirmed they have all the upgrades so I am set. They are about ten years old and I listen almost daily. Great review! Forgot to say I have a pair of RSL 12S subwoofers I use with them as well.
@patrickgeorge141 awesome! Thank you for sharing and for watching!
@ForeverAnalog I like your approach. I do not have small rooms. I have large areas. In that I need large speakers. I do have some Klipsch RP600M and RP600M ii yet not enough so setting them up in a smaller area. Tekton are next on my list. Take care.
Great review! Two pair of Zu's here, the new DW6 Supremes and the Omen Dirty Weekends circa 2017. Both sound incredible, the DW6 Superme is a step up all around. But, I could easily live with either pair in my main system, still like the Supremes better though, they were worth the price. I power both pairs with vintage Sansui receivers, a 2000 and 4000.
For folks looking at the DWX, unless you absolutely cannot fit the towers, get the towers. They are the same footprint, just a tad bit taller. The Towers are 36" tall and create so much wonderful bass, and are not finicky in the least in regards to placement. And tilting the speakers, I do the same with the towers, and it is easy to do with simple carriage bolts.
These are fun all around speakers, call it toe tapping, head bopping, shit eating grin FUN - Fi!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
I'm planning to get a DWX and maybe a Decware 2 watt tube amp someday for them, in teh meantime, what Chinese tube amp should I try? Also my setup will only be about 6ft away from them, is that going to work?
A lot of the popular Chinese tubes amps by Aiyima, Douk, etc, are actually Class D that output a lot of power, so I wouldn't recommend those. If you search my channel for the PJ tube amp, a video should appear with this one and you can order from Ali Express.
I've received my DWX in teal blue. I'll say it's a lot darker looking than the pictures advertised on their site, that's OK, it still looks pretty good. I just wanted the lighter teal blue. I'll look for the PJ tube amp, thanks!@@ForeverAnalog
I have the Zu Soul Supremes and prior to that I owned the floor standing DW Mark II's. In addition to being (in my opinion) the most beautiful speakers Zu has ever made, the Soul Supremes are a clear step up from the Mark II DW's. The super tweeter, in particular, adds more of that crisp air to the sound. I have them paired with a Pass Labs INT-25, which is great. That said, I had to send the INT-25 in for service recently and temporarily replaced them with a pair of monoblock Amp Camp Amps, also designed by Nelson Pass. With a balanced connection these provide about 15 watts each, and I must say I really enjoyed rediscovering these amps. They sounded extremely good with the Soul Supremes. They can't dig as deep when you want higher volume levels but they are special little amps and a super bargain if you want that Nelson Pass class A sound.
I will definitely check out the amp camps! Thank you for sharing!
DW6
I am a recent convert with a pair of DW6 w/ superfly upgrade. There was a significant break-in period. But, now they sound lovely and will remain in the system for the foreseeable future. You are correct that they crave low power to sound their best. I have settled on a tube line stage feeding a 20 watt First Watt F7. Magical pairing. Even with the rear ports, they are not picky at all about room placement. I actually have them fairly close to the wall with no toe-in. Baffles me how good they sound with that placement and the stereo image is dead center!
Awesome. The DW6s look amazing and I bet they do really sing with that First Watt amp, something I would also really love to hear. Thank you for sharing and for watching!
Anyone have a recommendation for stands that might work well?
Thanks for the review. I am not completely happy with the speakers in my main system and was eying a pair of Zu D6's or the DWX's. My listening room is not the biggest and either one of these would fit in nicely. The D6's are floor standing so no need to purchase stands but I love the look of the DWX's more and they are a bit cheaper. I am currently selling off a bunch of gear in hopes I can purchase these and a new cd transport. I hate selling gear but I need to be honest with myself sometimes. If I am not using it and have not used it in over a year then sell it to someone who would.
Selling is always tough, but I use the funds to buy new gear which makes me feel better about it, lol!
I have a pair of the original Omen Dirty Weekends in a 12 x 12 room, they actually pressurize the room and sound FANTASTIC! Even better than the DW6 Supremes I have in my main listening area due to the room acoustics. If you can find a used pair of Zu's like myself, grab them. The sound difference between the new models and the older Zu's is not night and day, not if you can find a nice used pair. They will rock your world.
@@michaelwright1602 - I'll see what I can find ... and that is about the size of my room btw. Thanks for the advice.
@@bifff8433Us Audio Mart and Reverb are two good places to look.
I've had a pair of Omen Def Supreme's with a pair of REL subwoofers for over a year - I am very content for the moment. I'd never say I would not trade up. I just have not heard anything that moves me as much as this combo. Paired with PrimaLuna tube amp and preamp - sources are mostly vinyl and limited streaming with a Sonore/Gustard system.
Awesome. I have a Primaluna tube preamp that I love
Has anyone tested the superfly compared to the base model is their a big difference?
I enjoy the heck out of your reviews. I am a Klipsch fan boy and I would love to get a low watt tube amp. Those Zu speakers look awesome. Maybe some day....
Thank you for the kind words!
One could get 2 pairs of Zu speakers for the price of a pair of Heresy .. interesting.
What tube amp is that ?
Think I’m going to get the Zus and a Willsenton R300 Plus. Thanks For the great reviews 🤗
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
This might be a dumb question, but 1300.00 a pair or each? I'm guessing each, lol.
Not dumb! I should’ve clarified! It’s $1398 a pair.
@@ForeverAnalog wow! That's cool for that price!
Hello just joined the Nashville pop-up hi fi. I live close to Nashville and looking forward to connecting with other hobbyists
Awesome!!!
Hey there. Loving the channel and great review! I focus on vintage gear, but would love to hear some Zu models. I am "next door" in NC, so will give you a shout the next time I am over in the Nashville area.
Hi! I also love your channel...been watching for awhile now. We just got back from camping in Pisgah last month and try to get to Asheville at least once a year. Would love to meet up!
@@ForeverAnalog Absolutely! Let me know if you are again in the area.
I enjoyed your review very much. You achieved something I have been chasing for a while. That holographic thing. I have very nice vintage McIntosh SS components along with a Ladder Schumann dac (looks like a Denafrips). I have vintage ADS and new Sourcepoint 8. I heard some great wide stages but never the surrounding experience. Bravo 👏
Thank you for the kind words! Your setup sounds awesome.
Hello kindred spirit. Glad to have found this channel. As a guy that has Zu and vintage pioneer in my system and is a huge Archers of loaf fan it seems I’ve stumbled on a good place to be.
Welcome! Thank you for watching and for the kind comment.
When you said you will miss them it begged the question, what do you use as your daily driver then if you loved these so much? I own 4w SET tube amps. Totally understand what you speak of with that tube holographic magic. Must be matched with the proper speaker! aka: higher sensitiviy
I use vintage Klipsch Heresy speakers daily - I made a video about them here on my channel!
@@ForeverAnalog Thank you! Nice speakers for sure! And you own them so the price is right! :) Often tempted by the next THING but i have some fine speakers myself and don't need to spend any more cash. I'm satisfied but i do like to see what's happenin out there and what is new.
I've had the DW6 floor standing speakers for a while now and really enjoy them, but I do wish they at least had an option for a grill.
I hate subs for playing music. HT is different.
I picked up a little Cayin 10w EL-84 tube amp, and the Zu DW6 Supremes sound simply gorgeous. Zu's and tubes, meant to be together.
That sounds amazing, congrats!
like this review but curious why they aren't good enough that you would purchase for yourself?
I spent over $3k on other gear last year and have two kids in college so if I bought everything I liked after reviewing I’d be broke lol.
Le Grande is a good speaker if uou jave kids.
DW6..
Rock the house !❤😂🎉
Same result here with a pair of Tannoys (compression driver tweeter) the Pioneer 680 I have at hand sounds ok, but both my Quad II 12 watt tube amps and 300B make them so more 'alive'.. horn speakers love tubes..
Awesome!
Benny from ABBA 🤔
Hows that schiit cd player working out?
I'm really enjoying it, thank you! It pairs sonically well with the Denafrips Ares II!
Great review thank you! I’m think of going from elac debut6.2 to the DW 6 or mofi 10 not sure. Can anyone out there help me push the buy button on one? LOL. Are they a big upgrade from the elac?
By comparison, after you hear the DW 6, when you go back to the Elacs, it will sound like they are playing with a blanket over them. The DW6 is a completely different animal.
The Zu's are on a different level than either. Owning the DW6 Supremes all I can say is I have discovered audio nirvana. They will actually pressurize the room with bass, no subs required, with the right amplifier. I bought a $200 Sansui 4000 stereo receiver and am not looking back. The sound out of the Zu's with the Sansui are doing things I could never get any modern gear through here to do, with any speaker. If you like Rock, Jazz, Funk, Blues or R&B, find a vintage Sansui and pick up a pair of Zu's... ;-)
The RUclips link doesn't work.
thank you, I believe I updated it properly now
What about a small room? 9.5’ X 10.5’
Should be fine!
Nice Minor Threat painting!
Check out the artist Nathan McKee!
Did you turn them upside down?
Nah. The finish on these made me nervous to move them much especially since they belong to my friend and I didn’t want to send them back all scratched up!
Love your channel!
Thank you!
Great review!!
Thank you!
is this better than wharefadale diamond 12.2?
Great question. I do not have the diamonds in my system nor have I heard them so I can’t make a comparison at this time.
@@ForeverAnalog thank you appreciated the responce waiting for your another audio reviews..keep up the good works
I would say no contest, the Zu's just do so much more and are so versatile. You can power the Zu's with a 9 volt battery... Which opens up so much gear.
6 watt tube amp name/manufacture!?
PJ Miaolai 6G2P tube amplifier
@@ForeverAnalog thanks! I ended up seeing the link to the review and get the strategy now
Icky mettle!!!!🤘
Such a great album
@@ForeverAnalog Just saw them few months ago. Really good show.
no link to the Chinese tube amp??
Oops I’ll add later but for now it’s in my original video review for the amp on my channel
People should know a couple of things here. Like you repeatedly said, these are single driver speakers. I guarantee you that you are going to get frequency bleed any time you try to push them. Second, they are top mounted, not flush mounted. You are gonna get cabinet reverb at volume. If you need a special amp to make a speaker sound good, it's not a good speaker. Sorry.
Hardly, I own two pairs of Zu's, this is nonsense.
