    This will be skit that I save for all eternity. I shared this with my siblings last night at midnight. My Dad passed away today, on Veterans Day at 8am. He LOVED the Steelers. So many of our conversations were like this. He had a great sense of humor, but really could not talk about feelings. Just football. He was 86. I feel like this was the message he wanted to send.

    This is one of the realest sketches SNL has done. It captures old school dads to a tee. Getting them to open up and show vulnerability is like pulling teeth. I guess it’s because they grew up in a time when feelings weren't talked about much. They just did what they had to do because they didn’t have the luxury sit around and be introspective and ask themselves how things made them feel.

    • @L_Martin
      @L_Martin 8 дней назад +10

      It’s not a question of if it was bad, it’s a question of what was expected of men, how they were allowed to behave.

    • @amphibeingmcshpongletron5026
      @amphibeingmcshpongletron5026 8 дней назад +5

      Were you in your 20s back in the 70s? If not, you can only infer that from what you heard from people who were, and assume everything they said was 100% accurate. That, or, you just assumed. That's like saying it isn't that bad for people in their 20s today. You know you. Everyone else's experiences at different times is just hearsay. Again, even if you were in your 20s in the 70s, speak for yourself.

      😂 It's because you're taught from an early age as a boy Not to show emotion and especially don't show weakness. Because you'll get made fun of by men and women alike. It's what happens when women aren't soft and understanding and empathetic anymore. Because that's who men used to be able to go to with their problems.

    My Dad has been gone since August 2018 and I miss him everyday still. He was an all around great guy, everyone loved him, he was funny, adventurous truthful and kind. He taught me how to ride a bike, play baseball, how to fish, fix my car, how to camp and walk quietly on a trail observing nature. He was full of witt and wisdom that he shared with my sister and I and the neighborhood kids. He was one of the Dads that came out to play with the kids. Mom went to join him this past December and I'm left living in their house but they are here many times with me.😢

    Nice to see another slice-of-life sketch on the show, not trying to force in the comedy. Very well-acted and natural. The moments with Bill trying to tell Andrew about his health problems without directly telling him were the best but everything works. One of Kenan's best performances in the last few seasons as well. A season highlight.

    My dad passed away during the pandemic. He had a stroke, then lost his vision, then had another stroke. He was suffering from dementia at the end and the last time I spoke to him on the phone (because of hospital rules I couldn't see him) he was totally gone. He wasn't himself and it broke my heart. He was such a kind man and great father. He took care of 4 kids after he finally won custody, because my mom was a physically abusive NIGHTMARE. This makes me miss him so much. If your dad is alive and if he is a good man and loves you, give him a call.

      I hear you. I lost my dad in the summer of 2020. He didn't die of COVID, but all of the rules made everything so much harder. It was the reason I missed his final moments. It even forced his funeral to be cut short. He was a wonderful man.
      He kept his mind until near the very end, but he got uncharacteristically cranky. We both thought he had a few more months than he did, and we didn't know that our last phone call would be our last phone call. We spent a good chunk of it discussing different routes for a cross-country trip I'd taken with my wife, and he was surprisingly upset to learn that we'd driven through a relatively rural area. ("What if you had a breakdown!" "But we didn't have a breakdown, and we were never more than a few miles away from other people." "That's not the point!") It was a ridiculous conversation, but it was his way of expressing love and concern. I wish I'd been more present for it, and I still regret that.
      Anyway. I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sorry that it was under those conditions. It sounds like your dad was an amazing, stand-up guy.

    It is fathers day here in Finland. I was going to call my dad anyway, but this really was perfect reminder. And I'm sure we will say nothing real and just speak about nothing for a while, and that's cool.

      Nice to know that dads on the other side of the world are pretty much the same.

    My dad died almost 4 years ago now. Just a little over a month after Biden took office. My dad was a registered Republican, but he hated Trump so much. 😁 I remember face timing with my dad when he was in the hospital. I couldn't go see him because of the covid restrictions at that time. I know not everyone is blessed with a good dad, but mine was great. I miss him and love him so much.

      His car must've had a good car. And you're gonna be a good car to your cars.

    This skit came out on what would have been my Dad's 79th birthday and it could not be a more perfect tribute to him, right down to Kenan's Eagles fandom and Bill Burr's hanging up without saying I love you. Thanks, SNL.

    Tied with Bargatze's Washington sequel for best sketch of the season. Absolutely perfect and hilarious as it is a little heart-wrenching
