When you've been married awhile, and your partner goes away for even just a few days, it's amazing the effect it has. You don't really realize how much the ambience of their presence fills the space of your home until they're not there. It's different than if they're just gone for an hour and coming back. When you know they aren't coming back for awhile, there's an empty silence that you can actually feel. Glad to see you're keeping busy and getting some things done. That certainly helps. You'll have to do something special for her when she comes back. Maybe a special dinner, and some flowers or something. You did a nice job of filming and editing this episode!
Pleased you are keeping up the content even though Danni is away for a while. It gives me somewhere to get my narrowboat fix. Over the last year I have subscribed to half a dozen or so narrowboat channels, but one by one I have dropped them all because of the annoying click-bait titles they use You and Danni come across as normal down to earth people who keep it real. Keep up the good work.
Jo, put the copper pipe you removed back in place but add a T piece and run the verticle section up above the deck then either bend the top of the tube over or use fittings to make up a U section so the end is facing down to stop the rain getting in
That was some seriously good photography at the beginning, with the geostationary drone over the canal and the WCML. You went to great lengths to get some really intriguing angles. You could print off some stills, make them into posters and sell them as merch? I actually preferred the greater balance between cruising and chat on this video.
Joe you are such a nice guy, you both should be so proud of what you have achieved. ❤Loved the overhead shots with the railway and canal working in tandem. 👍👍 Wet n forget is magic, just make sure it gets to dry after spraying on, Milton fluid is great on the inside of the cover too👍👍
Lovely to see you're managing OK with the locks etc. Definitely easier with two. Be great for you both to get away for a break. Must seem so quiet on the boat. The Boating community seems so supportive and friendly. Lovely to hear. X
I've just started my new life on the canals. On my own after a difficult few years. And I both expected and terrified. Your channels really helping me learn things. I brought a 54 ft fixer upper. I am currently moored up to complete all the work before going out and about. I want sure ide manage on my own but now I think what have I got to lose. So thankyou for making things seem a bit less daunting for me.
You want magnesium anodes on a narrowboat - unless you're going anywhere near brackish or salt water (ie. crossing the Wash, which I'd love to see!). Magnesium will give the best protection, but will dissolve rapidly in saltwater, so switch to aluminium in that case.
Reinstall the top crossover pipe, get a self tapping pipe saddle from the plumbing store for that pipe and run a breather off of that saddle.Try and run the breather close to the fill opening so you can to tell if it is full and not running into your bilge. EXTRA: sunken boat at water refill was James first boat DOPE Narrowboat that James built

Hi there, with you liking a nice coffee, I thought you would like a bear of the week, it's called Brew dog Ratle n Rum, I think you will love it. It's a stout and I think it's about 6:2. Beer of the week.
That should work so long as the top of the tee is above the top of the filler point. Not sure if it's the same on boats, but on diesel powered plant, the breather is usually in the filler cap. Can you show the filler cap sometime Joe?
Yeah thinking of a tee off of that, but it would need to come up about 1ft out of the deck somewhere to match the filler height! I’ll check the filler itself again but I couldn’t see anything obvious there
Joe man enjoy the quietness it will give time to reflect on shit and just chill. 😮😊 Time to get stuff done without stepping over it. 😮 Just chill etc.😊
Great Solo Vlog Joe. Exceptional filming on your own, taking advantage of your drone in 'hover mode 'will be exciting when you change the engine. Take care 🙂
Looking forward to the sourdough recipe! I got into sourdough during the first lockdown. been ages since I did one though. If you're still around Berko, go to The Rising Sun pub. It's right on a lock and a great little pub. I'm moored up in Leighton Buzzard, heading your way. Boat's called Joshua, two massive solar panels and a cargo bike on the roof. If you pass by and I'm in, feel free to pop in for a cuppa/beer. I might be able to help you with that welding.
Re your belt noise, use a can of belt eliminator and use it just on the Alterantor belt.. If its that belt making the noise, suggest its due to the load being put on the alternator at start up as its being asked to recharge, ? your boat battery along with House Batteries.. If thats the case look at a controler to lower the load at start up. or put and auto tensioner on that belt.... Cheers and keep at it...
Haha. We live in a Bedfordshire and when the M25 or M1 is snarled up we sometimes go via Hemel to avoid the traffic. This means the going via the magic roundabout which is always an experience and I'm especially glad the Mrs is our usual driver!
I can imagine you both are missing each other like crazy and you’re counting down the hours to see each other. Definitely check in with Amy and Wes from @boattime as they’ve proved blacking the base plate is actually really important, even though it is back breaking to do it. Hope you’re doing good Danni and you’re really enjoying your new job placement? sending huge hugs to you both 🤗🤗
Joe, this one had serious lost puppy vibes. Even the music seemed subdued with the Mississippi Delta Blues. I like the moustache, very dapper. Are any of Danni's seeds sprouting? Danni we miss you.
I use Wet and Forget all the time. It's not instant, but spray it on and a few days later, you will see the results. I sprayed my grannies headstones. They were black with mould and lichen it took a spray every 3 moths and now they are snow white. While I was spraying the cemetary, workers told me it doesn't work, a year latter they said 'Whats the name of that stuff you sprayed on the headstone" just goes to show if you follow the instructions to the letter it will work.
Wet and forget is the real deal use it on our boat Tranquility cratch cover you just need to be patient it gets rid of the algae but may take a week clever stuff we also use it on our drive and paths at home... brilliant stuff 👍👌🤛
Zinc anodes - believe it or not, there is similar information coming from the current drydocking of the now a museum US battleship USS New Jersey. The Curator was telling how zing anodes work best in salt water & where the ship has its museum berth is in fresh/brackish water where a different metal works better for anodes, indeed those aluminum anodes.
Hi Joe. I follow a vlog about the U.S. battleship, New Jersey. She has just gone into dry dock and they are replacing her zinc anodes with aluminium anodes. Apparently the aluminium is used now if the ship/ boat is in fresh water, which the New Jersey is, when at it’s it’s permanent mooring.
Just remember, Trainspotters (and planespotters) are people too. 🚂😁 Even so, I took the sound systems out of my model trains, they got on my nerves. Mentioning Heathrow, earlier today had a YT channel playing which was watching jets land at Heathrow in the winds of current storm, and yes, I turned the sound down. 🛬😁 Hmm ... wonder how much effect family relations have on what a person is interested in? Dad and Grandad were each in the Navy and were each pilots for a season or two of their lives & I still am interested in boat and airplanes. Dunno how the railway interest got in there. 🤔 🎶 Oh, I like that music around the 6 minute point and for a bit after.
Hi Joe, Use Magnesium anodes for fresh water . Aluminium and Zinc work better in salt water. As for fitting them we welded some all thread to the Hull and drilled holes in the anodes backing plate and then just used a nut and a locking nut to have it up against the hull
Cool to see my hometown of Berko. Great vlog and love the arial shots. You could put the drone up so you can see the ruins of Berkhamsted Castle, built by the Normans.
You Jammy Bugger lol thats the swingbridge I warned you about where the local car owners have very little patience. Winkwell lane has been closed for road works so you got a free ride through there mate ...top man
Great drone shots at the beginning Joe, I'm amazed how stable the shots are even when it's breezy. Definitely magnesium anodes for your boat, zinc anodes are used for saltwater sailing.
