Let me just get this out of the way. I played through all of Death Loop, I feel as though I've given it a fair chance to impress me, and after dozens of hours with it I can't help but feel as though the press's reactions and subsequent evaluation of the game's worth were remarkably disconnected from reality. Plethora laudations were levied towards the game, some claiming that the game was a triumph, endlessly impressive, and even a masterpiece. Indeed it sounds as though we're describing literally anything that Leonardo DiCaprio has ever done, but in actuality, we're describing something that is somehow more controversial.
You see, in my opinion, Deathloop is far from a masterpiece. In fact, arcane studios made some choices with this game that are so baffling to me that I frankly have a difficult time believing that the games media who covered it weren't aware of its shortcomings but rather were willingly ignorant of them. The fact that some reviewers gave this a nine or even a perfect 10 is nothing short of laughable in my mind. I know, we all have our respective opinions and disagreements are to be expected and even encouraged. But when someone is arguing that a game is perfect or near-perfect there is a burden of proof placed upon them. That’s why my videos are often so long. There IS a burden of proof when you make a claim. If I say that AC Valhalla is a low point for the series and that there are plethora issues with it, I need to defend that point. It’s the same if I praise a game and certainly if I claim that it's perfect or close to it.
So, because I”m making the claim that Death Loop really isn’t very good I’m going to try to justify it. So buckle up, here we go

    • @MrJagermeister
      @MrJagermeister 3 года назад +4

My only complaint with Deathloop is that I wish there were about double the amount of powers (slabs) and that you could use up to 6 or so of them simultaneously, as you do with Deathloop. You can watch videos from StealthGamerBR here on RUclips playing Dishonored where they absolutely toy with the enemies, juggling between all of the powers and utilizing the environment and their knowledge of the game’s physics and the AI’s behaviors to do something really creative with it.
In Deathloop, I feel compelled to take Shift with me 9 times out of 10, and likely Nexus after that. So instead of juggling between powers, it’s more like Death Stranding as far as picking the right weapon, trinkets, and slabs to complement a stealth or loud run that you’re planning, which in turn is planned based on your knowledge of what that location will present in the form of challenges at that specific time of day. As they all evolve over the course of a day and different things happen at different times, I think they were probably going for that “right tool for the right situation” feeling over “I’m the god of this dimension, and can just toy with their lives”.

I think this games rating is more of a problem with gaming media than with the game. it’s good don’t get me wrong but the standard of what’s a 10/10 has changed, for a lot of these games journalists. Their used to be 1-2 10/10 games a year. Now it’s like “did you come up with a cool concept mechanic and pair it with good to average gameplay?” 10/10. 10/10 games are supposed to be games you think about for weeks after you put it down. After I beat death loop this is the first time I’ve been reminded of it’s existence.

The rating is meaningless. It has been for some time. Before endless 10/10s it was all 9/10s. It’s just score inflation, and there’s nowhere left for them to go. And as journalists and developers realize that they’re all thinking “Hell, might as well give it a 10 for maximum access”.
Movie reviews are like that now too, with any film getting less than 90 being seen as subpar in some way.

I was obsessed with this game. To me it was super fun, was unique, the gunplay rocked, great characters, had an awesome progression system and I enjoyed the mystery of the narrative.
I did find the end fell flat a little bit. I personally think Arkane smashed this out the park and it's overall bloody brilliant.
Had very little bugs and the ones I saw were very minor- enemies stuck walking into a wall for example or getting seen when not in line of sight.
I dont think that the AI is meant to be smart - I found the challenge was in solving the loop and the broader puzzles of each level rather than the individual enemies. AI have small cones of vision, they're easy to take down, it feels good to stealth them but also to blast hordes of them.
I agree I thought the loop would be harder and more on me to solve. I did think the loop would be a giant puzzle and wouldnt hold hands as much which was a downer. I thought at least it gave enough options to let you follow whatever path interested you the most.

Yeah this was my experience with the game as well (PC). I thoroughly enjoyed it and it's my favorite game of the year so far. Throughout the whole game I had one hard crash that where I lost a lot of progress, but I am maybe in the minority. I had my problems with the game (example being the unbalanced multiplayer if a colt is just starting out) and I don't think its a masterpiece, but I think it's close. The more I explored and uncovered, the more I just fell in love with the game and its characters, specifically the main 2. I don't agree with Luke here, and him saying that after 5 hours you've seen everything each of the maps have to offer? That's completely not true, because the maps do change, the places enter change, and the things you can discover change. It makes me believe that he didn't really explore the maps much. But anyway, I loved this game and I can understand the rave reviews.

I played a lot as Julianna, as soon as you get invisibility with the perk where you don't spend your energy when not moving, that's a game changer, i would always try to kill Colt with Melee that was really fun, after two deaths you could see how some Colt players started being afraid of losing progress :D And also you can have a OP shotgun with her too and just use Havoc and Shift to Faceroll Colt ;)
That the wait time as Julianna would increase overtime was clear to me from the start, because there is no real incentive to keep playing as Colt when you finished the game once. But the idea still was nice and fun while it lasted, i mean the game is still a single player in its core.

      The idiom means “well memorized”.
There’s debate over the origin of the idiom, but I believe it refers to poker with a “pat hand”. An answer I found that sums it up well better than I could:
“Every poker player knows that feeling when one is dealt a pat hand: you glance at the 5 diamonds you've been dealt, and it makes a vivid impression. You don't need to glance at it again and again to verify what you have: you have it down pat. Of course, amateur poker players give themselves away by behaving differently when they have one kind of hand versus another. They look at it too often, or not often enough. They lay it down in front of them instead of holding it, etc. (Poker players call these "tells," characteristic behaviors that give away a hand's strength.) Naturally, an advanced poker player will strive to eliminate tells, or skillfully plant false tells to deceive. One way to reach a behavioral consistency is to spend the same amount of time examining your cards each time, regardless of its content.”
So in a sense, you have your cards memorized down pat and don’t have to give yourself away.

I think it’s a great game. I wouldn’t say masterpiece but gaming is subjective and if some people think that that’s totally fine and equally as valid. Just as I saw God of War recently get voted best game of all time. I loved God of War. But of all time? I don’t even think it would make my top 10 if we’re looking at all time. Everyone’s different. I could not get into Hades whatsoever, but people seem to love that game and call it a masterpiece. People’s opinions will be all over the place when it comes to the entertainment they like and you’ll never be able to say what is and is not a masterpiece to someone else.
What I do praise the game for especially is offering something more unique in the sea of shooters, open world games, or cinematic over the shoulder third person shooters with light rpg and stealth elements that we get by the truckload usually. I liked many things about Deathloop but this is why it and a game like Returnal stood out for me more than others this year. So I can get why people would also look at that and add more value to it. Also it wasn’t overly difficult and looked visually great so insert game journalist joke here. As far as the bugs you’re relaying though, I experienced none of these on PS5. And I did play it at launch. So it’s definitely a mileage may vary kind of think I guess. The game ran surprisingly solid at release for me. And as far as the idiot npc’s, I think with the one difficulty especially, npc combat was meant to be secondary in Deathloop. It’s not a shooter. And the primary goal is figuring out the loop. If the combat was difficult it would have a much less wide appeal. I thought it was intentional for this reason but I could be wrong.

The gameplay is like nothing else and should not be reviewed based simply on one's expectations of what a good game should be like. The reviewer seem to list strong point of the game as "issues". For example overlooking the strategy part of the game completely. It is a pain to imagine someone going through maps one by one shooting everything and looking for powerful guns, just to find out that a lack of basic strategy will result in having to repeat more of the same areas again and again. Or even worse - going through locations following one single lead at a time. Part of "Core Gameplay" that affects your experience going through locations, is what is happening in the game menu, figuring out how to use the unusual rules of the games to your advantage. Following ALL leads at the SAME time in EACH location in the most practical way is what make your experience interesting and not repetitive at all. This game is extremely smart and thought through to a little detail and it is a pity when it flies over the head of someone who is used to compare everything with basic linear shooters. After the morning of the 2nd day I had 4 slabs, 3 unique weapons, all infused, many trinkets and completed 2 of the visionary leads and had a huge progress on 2 others. Not to repeat mindlessly same locations over and over is sort of the point. Having to repeat is in fact a punishment for dying. it makes you plan your steps carefully in the menu and in a location. It is not an immersive sim, not an exploration, not a puzzle, not an open world, not a linear shooter, not a strategy and not a card game. It has elements of all, very well interwoven together and each element is developed just good enough to make the entire game shine on many different levels

They should have marketed the game differently then. Don't say "play your way" if the way a player wants to play the game is unrewarding. Unless the gameplay and story are connected together (a great example being the chaos system in Dishonored 1) the way a player plays a game should not be unrewarding when the game asks you to play it in any way you please. If Deathloop was a straight up action game or a straight up stealth game, then the player can't be mad at the game for being unrewarding when they play the game the wrong way.

I was disappointed by how "linear" the game was, there really isn't any unique ways to kill the visionaries. There's only one way for you to kill every visionary in one day. You can't hack a turret on a path that you know a visionary takes everyday. At the end of the day you just have to interact with a few items until everyone is hanging out with each other and take them out with a sniper or something.

  • @andreymagnuss
    @andreymagnuss 3 года назад +6

That's a long-read, but I promise it's worth it both if you agree with Luke and if you don't. (re-posting because for some reason other people can't see it)
    1) Techincal state of the game:
    - You're exaggerating about the perfomance and the technical state of the game. The game runs great after a few patches and the first full update (at the release Digital Foundry had only found a few things which were already fixed at this point). Both on PC and PS5. The crashes (which were present earlier) are almost non-existent now. And even when they happened, they only regressed your progress to the beginning of the level (which is not good, but not as dramatic, as you've stated). There are few bugs at the moment: mainly UI elements can hover over each other or enemies can start swinging their arms like crazy (both are harmless and pretty rare - I've never had those, but some people did).
    - Your menu bug couldn't have been caused by the game reconnecting to the servers. Because in your example, the player is mid-mission and you can only get softlocked mid-mission (otherwise, you'd just restart the game). When you open one of the menus mid-mission, the game doesn't try to reconnect to the server. The game might do so whenever there's a problem with your connection, but the notification would appear telling you that.
    - You clearly are unfamiliar with the review process. People like Digital Foundry and some other big publications give their feedback to developers right when they have a chance to do so. And most of the time developers answer saying things like "We are aware of the issue, it's going to be fixed with day-1 patch" or something like that. The reason they say it is because developers start making patches right after the game goes gold. It happens because some games have to have specific release dates and can't be delayed even more (this one was already delayed twice due to covid).
    2) AI:
    - AI in games is not supposed to be human-like. The purpose of the AI is to support developer's intention with what the game is supposed to be (and varous aspects of the game). AI here probably bugged out at times because of how complex the systems and level design are (your claim about the levels being designed around that stupidity is ridiculous). And AI paths were also adressed in the latest "Game Update 1", which really seemed to have fixed some of the moments when enemies just stood at one place.
    - You may call enemies in Deathloop inconsistent at times but not stupid because some of the things this AI is possible to do is much better than in some other games with widely-acceptedly good AI. First, their movement - they can vault higher than in most games, they can climb through windows and they can drop down if they know you are downstairs. Second, detection - they can detect you through holes, incomplete stairs (Frank's mansion as an example), but only if you're close enough and in their line of sight + you can see their icon fill up just like in Dishonored. They also throw bottles if they are far from you or unable to reach you. And sometimes even nades. For why their cones of vision are so narrow - that's intentional and made so that you don't get frustrated when detected unfairly. All systems have to tie into the loop mechanic here, so does the AI. You are meant to kill enemies over and over. They are very lethal and there's a limited amount of them on the map, so you'll really get frustrated having to loop back to morning after death because of the eternalists (whilst you have a stronger threat - online Julianna). And you can see a clear difference between AI of eternalists and AI of visionaries who, except Aleksis, don't have masks and have wider cones of vision.
    - Enemies have good memory it just depends on the type of encounter. If they've spotted you once just a bit, they won't care because otherwise it would be unfair to the player (that's not the stealth game first and foremost, though there are strong elements of it (and stealth game have mostly same detection-level systems) - but you can't have deep stealth systems with loud guns). If they've clearly seen you, they'll try to investigate, but will give up once they don't find anything (and they even say things like "I hope it's not Colt" or "That's time wasted" because they both are kinda afraid of Colt as he was security officer on Blackreed and they've come to the island for the opportunity of eternal life and not for the opportunity to stand at one place guarding it). If their icon became yellow -> red, they'll start shooting, yelling and calling for reinforcements. After this state of awareness of the player, they will try to find Colt and they might visit places you wouldn't even expect them being able to. They can be in this state for a long time.
    - There's also a dynamic system that makes enemies more lethal and aware of you whenever you kill visionaries throughout the day. Plus some of the eternalists get drunk already by noon (and even more later in the day). And you can clearly see them being drunk and why they are so clueless.
    - In one sentence you've said it is a stealth game. And in the other you said that "stupid" AI might have been made this way because developers knew that the player would be the first to encounter enemies. But stealth games are no DOOM, where there are hordes of enemies once you enter a certain area who are already trying to kill you. In stealth game (though stealth is an option in Deathloop, it's not the main focus) you can observe enemy behaviour from the outside so why exactly would developers cut down on AI if it's a stealth game?
    3) The Loop:
    - Maps aren't huge. So what? Map size doesn't matter a damn thing as long as it's design is bad and you spend too much time just travelling (unless that's the point of a game). Maps in Deathloop are even denser than in Dishonored 2 and Dishonored DOTO. Deathloop is a masterclass in level-design. Check out something like Cyberpunk level-designer streams on Deathloop where he analyses it if you're unfamiliar with what makes a great level-design.
    - Repetition is literally the idea of Deathloop. You are meant to learn these maps (even though by the end of the game there might still be areas you haven't explored). That's where great level-design comes. One of the reasons they made a time-looped game after Dishonored series is because players didn't explore maps of Dishonored deep enough. So one of the obvious decisions is to make better replayability in first playthrough and not to make players play though the whole game once again to experience all it's parts.
    - "the maps don't change from morning, noon, afternoon, evening" - that's simply ridiculous. Yes, you don't get completely new maps once you visit them at a different time of day. BUT. There are drastic changes: some areas close and open, visionaries are present at certain times and therefore their areas are either open or not, some things open or change after you complete series of actions, artistically the surroundings and environments change a lot and you can easily track how eternalists ruin something throughout the day. Placement of enemies changes drastically and slightly depending on the locations. Sometimes it wouldn't make sense if enemies moved from a certain space to the other.
    - Developers certainly allowed for the player to have a go-to route. Because they knew it would be repetitive by the nature of having to play the same map. And different people have different go-to routes. And level-design had to account for different players being able to clearly read paths. You just can't accomplish such level-design with huge maps. At least not when you have limited resources (remember that Arkane is no Rockstar in terms of budgets and lead times). I'd say more - some of the routes were specifically designed to be accessible during first hours with the game and to be efficient in later periods of it.
    - Replayability in non timeloop-themed games is something that not many people experience. And why would you even want a replayability factor in a game that has replayability within itself? Go play as Julianna, experience these levels in different ways. Because real players can change the way you play so much, that navigating around familiar areas would be even more fun.
    - Campaign Director of the game already talked about the game having one final loop. They had budget and they could not affor to spend more (i'm guessing a lot more) resources on allowing player to have different ways to end a final loop. That would require scrapping everything they've made or having it be considerend in the beginning of the development with rewrites of the story, characters, systems, structure (but still only having access to much higher budgets and lead times). So they chose the best and most pleasing way of ending a final loop and made it the only way to do so. But the game is not that hand-holdy. It offers next objectives for people who are overwhelmed by game's systems (probably most casual player). The game never just tells you what to do next without you having found a related information that is needed to progress earlier (so it's your fault if you missed it and followed what the game suggested afterwards). Instead of making you write it down in notepad, it just gives notifications. But if you're attentive enough, you wouldn't consider this to be handholdy. If you've played the game certain way and didn't experience other ways doesn't mean your way is the only way. And also, Dishonored games were structurally very linear. And what's bad about them being linear, huh? Btw, you have options to approach this game with no handholding at all. Turn off markers and don't use leads.

Some other stuff to point out:
      - Instead of concentrating on media's perception of the game, review the game... Firstly, the ones who gave the game a perfect rating have given their reasonings for why they rated the game at 10. It's the case with every review. Journalists don't just post their rating without the review. Open metacritic and open each review. Secondly, you didn't justify your claim about them not giving a reasoning for their 10s. You've just stated that they didn't. While in reality they did.
      - Writing messages on the screen instead of re-recording this bit is not a good decision. A lot of people turn videos on background or just listen to them while multitasking.
      - You can't say there wasn't a priority during development to make something good and nobody tried. You don't know that and you can't state things like that as a reviewer.
      - Yes, you could pick an item through glass. It's obviously a bug and you treat it like it's an inconsistent game mechanic. They might've missed it because reinforced glass is mostly only present in bunkers, and you found the exact one, where an item was right behind the reinforced glass. No one has probably even tried to take it during playtesting or it just broke at some point later in the development.

    • @andreymagnuss
      @andreymagnuss 3 года назад +2

      - Matches don't get that much time to be found. 3-5 mins maximum unless you're playing a beta-patch. Or there might have been an issue with finding players on PS5 for you. At least on PC it was never that huge of an issue. But my 1-3 minutes on average are still kinda long, yeah. And you don't need to grind as Julianna. You get experience points for everything (eliminating Colt, being on the map for some time, completing some invasion achievements) and the gear you get is kinda random (though you get 1-2 high tier items per leveling). And in one year the game will come to Xbox (presumably gamepass), so there will be quite a bunch of new players and maybe some special content for the platform (just because Bethesda is part of Microsoft now). And it seems like Arkane are going to support the game for some time + possible DLC.

    • @andreymagnuss
      @andreymagnuss 3 года назад +4

      - "The quality of the gameplay, EnViRoNmEnT DeSiGn and how broken it is, all contribute to a really low enjoyment of this mode" - poor quality of environment deisgn? No comments.
      - "It's half of what the game has to offer because it takes half of the screen space in the main menu" - no connection there.
      - It was kinda advertised as puzzle. But more of a puzzle for Colt. And puzzles don't have non-linear ways to solve them. You can do some puzzles in different order, but in the end you'll have to do same things anyway. But this exact timeloop concept doesn't really allow for players to have a lot of ways to mix visionaries. Because visionaries don't retain their memory and therefore would repeat same things every day unless Colt interferes. But Colt can't completely manipulate them, because these visionaries have relationships and they are written in such a way as to be characters in the story and not the dummies Colt has complete control over.

I’ll place my bias up front, I’m a big fan of arkane games and have been since dishonored 1, which I believe to be a masterpiece, and I believe all of the arkane games to be classics in their own right
Also I must say I’ve never had a pc and have always played these games on console, which is worth noting
    So now I’ll say this
I feel like arkanes approach to death loop was “let’s fix one problem and replace it with another”
So they do this in multiple different ways
A great example of fixing a problem and replacing it with another is the power system
In other arkane games you had a abundance of powers but if you wanted to use these powers you would have to go into a menu that was slow then select it before using said power (and I know you can bind powers to keys on pc but as said earlier I never had that luxury)
In death loop you only have 2 powers but swapping between them Is quick and at the press of a button
Again it’s a give and take system but honestly I prefer this system
Also mana just regenerates constantly which is just a plain great change in my opinion
Another example of this fix one problem and replace it with another is the maps
He spoke about it in the vid but yea, the maps themselves are great and at least on par with other arkane maps but they simply don’t change much over the different times of day, when compared the dishonored games. And nothing compares to preys game design imo
Finally and the big complaint with this game is the ai
I really don’t even know how the ai is so bad considering they have made previous game with better ai imo, I can’t even defend it really. It’s not a game killer for me, and I particularly find the dumb ai to be fun in ways just like in the hitman games, but there is very little challenge. Part of me thinks that the ai was intentionally bad to make you feel bad ass but over time you’ll just become a badass which makes you realize just how bad the ai is
and my final complaint is the fact that there is like one optional way to get through the game and beat it, and it’s simply told to you after you beat all the story missions
It would be one thing if you had to discover the 1 way to beat the game on your own but they don’t do it
And I was hoping you could find multiple different ways to kill all targets in one loop but they don’t go that route which is disappointing
Also I won’t even speak on the multiplayer, it takes too long to get into a game, and it’s fairly boring. Probably the worst part of the game but you can literally ignore it like you ignore spec ops in mw, like why even waste the effort
Those are my major complaints so now I’ll list the pros of this game really quickly
-genuinely good gun play, not just compared to other arkane games but all games in general
    - great characters, and a satisfying but predictable story
-best puzzles in a arkane game but that’s not to say they are amazing, just good
    - the detective work is awesome imo, even if it is laid out in front of you
-the guns are pretty cool/unique and gun perk system is fun and adds some replay ability to the game
    - I know I already mentioned characters but imma just say again that colt and Juliana are fantastic characters with great dialogue, and so are the targets you have to kill
Ok long comment is over but I genuinely do love this game
I hate to put scores on games but if I had to I’d say 9/10
It’s just as good as arkanes other games in my opinion, better in some areas, worse in others but taken as a whole I’d say it’s just as great as their other games
    Have a good day

Bad reviewers always favor games where the difficulty is low and you can get a good feel for the game quickly. Because they can play through the game quickly. Plus they are much more in favor of concepts rather than gameplay, because bad reviewers are more journalists than gamers. It’s just an easy job for them.
Dark Souls, for example, got bad reviews because there’s no obvious story and it’s difficult.

  • @MrJagermeister

I think the AI criticism is one that I’ve heard a lot, but it’s important to keep in mind that this isn’t a FPS title like a Call of Duty campaign. We aren’t expecting the challenge of the game to come from the 1:1 shooting, dodging, and detection of and from these enemies in the same way that they’re critical to making a good FPS title. Instead, the challenge here is accomplishing that one perfect loop. If your entire run could break down because of overly aggressive or omniscient enemies, the game would be frustrating and you KNOW that would be a criticism leveled against it. See: Returnal as an example of a game where every enemy is lethal and is all over you, and can end your run.
Additionally, the AI is “stupid” at the start, but the more Visionaries (named enemies) that you kill in a single loop, the more you cause loop destabilization which causes the AI to become more intelligent and aggressive. That’s where the “perfect loop” comes into play as that’s what they’re trying to prevent you from doing. These aren’t military soldiers that we’re fighting. They’re researchers and assistants. They’re bored out of their minds, repeating the same day over and over and literally jumping off of cliffs, getting shot out of cannons, ingesting poison, and all sorts of other methods of killing THEMSELVES just for something to do. Expecting them to react in the same highly trained militant way just doesn’t fit the story that they’re trying to tell.
I think the solution here is to offer a higher difficulty toggle, where the enemies have increased fields of vision, longer memories, and are more aggressive… for those that want it. But the *real* difficulty in this game comes from both a) discovering the single solution that will allow you to break the loop, and b) **HUMAN** players invading your world as Julianna, that are as unpredictable as you are. They can put an end to your run with ease and come geared up and ready to do exactly that - in fact, that’s their ONLY purpose in this multiplayer feature portion of the game.
So when people talk about the bad or dumb AI of Deathloop, I wonder if they’re talking about the drunk, high, suicidal paper pushers on the average day, or the loop destabilization putting them on high alert and causing them to fight like hell to preserve it, in addition to the human Julianna players invading your world to put an end to it.

Playing this game I felt really weird, since almost everywhere I looked online everyone was complaining about bugs. But through my entire two playthroughs, I never had a single crash, softlock or even noticeable bug. Absolutely no clue how, since I got it day one but I can't pretend they didn't happen even if I miraculously didn't experience any of it on my PC.
My biggest issue was the linear nature of it, along with the encode situation. Whilst I really had fun playing the game, figuring out interesting ways to kill people I was more intrigued by the PvP then anything. And then it turned out absolutely terrible, playing online on either side was a buggy mess with very few registrating shots and after the first day where everyone had online on it became practically impossible to get into anyone's game, and if you had it on you'd be infinitely invaded which got stale quickly.
Over all I really enjoyed the game, but the PvP situation was a massive let down and Dishonored (1 & 2, unsure about DotO since they removed a core feature) are significantly better story and stealth games. I'd consider revisiting it, but unless they added more routes to an end I doubt I'd go back besides for tossing people around at high velocity.

I love Luke and his videos. Been following him for years which is why I’m watching this video now. I just wondered if this is what Luke had meant or if it was a slip up because if you say it out loud, Leonardo DiCaprio and Da Vinci both sound pretty similar and is a slip up people sometimes make. I know I have before. Leaked screenshots of Redfall don't look that much promising because these are from early tests of the game. And it's still very difficult to organise sessions to test games during Covid, so many things that could be there in the end, were just not here yet due to implementation stages and importance of some elements over others during testing (there's a recent talk from Deathloop campaign director about their team structure, and it probably applies to the team in Austin). And I'm sorry, but Arkane Austin, the creators of Prey and Prey Mooncrash wouldn't be able to make a game with shallow systems. And who if not them would be able to design a game that would feel right for both single-player and co-op. Of course some potential goodies could be cut because co-op requires some development resources, but not only Arkane Austin are actively hiring and outsourcing, they are provided help from id software and probably higher budgets from Microsoft.
You have all the reasons to be sceptical right now, but it reminds me of the same situation as with Deathloop, when people were "predicting" that Bethesda ruined Arkane with their incentive of making multiplayer games. And in the end we got a great single-player game with one of the best asymmetric multiplayer experiences.
I also wait for gameplay deep dives and reviews before making a purchasing decision. Same was with Deathloop. But Arkane Studios having specific immsim guidelines, most of the same talented people that worked on previous games and a belief in player agency makes me confident that whatever hides behind this controversial cinematic trailer is at least interesting and unique.

If you meant to ask about only the phrase “down pat”, it means “well memorized” (to the point of being able to recite or perform whatever it is without hesitation).
Her daughter is a piano prodigy: she's got all of her scales and arpeggios down pat. I said D-flat Minor, and she whipped it out in about four octaves, like bam! She's smart, too. Next I said C-sharp Minor, and she just said, "Why? I just played it!”
Pat as an adjective means means well-situated or appropriately pre-determined. It also has a noun use that means a volume (of butter) amounting to 1.5 teaspoons. This is why a pat of butter is pre-determined to be about a sufficient volume (1.5 tsp) to butter 1-2 slices of bread.
In modern parlance, a pat answer means one that shows little logic because it is apparently recited from rote (non-analyticical, memorization) learning.

The price will drop, and those "1 year later" reviews will drop as well. Honestly, I intend to play the game, which is why I have avoided watching the story behind the game. Personally, $20-30 is what I would buy the game for,and I look forward to playing it on my PS5 once I can actually buy one.

Kalli from gamespot got so much crap for saying cyberpunk 2077 was glitchy and a mess. Now everyone suddenly agrees with her. Or metroid dread. Reviews were what fans wanted to hear so they believe them. If you say Dread is a 6 or 7 they will hunt you down and kill you. Gamers are the absolute worst.

    • @MrJagermeister
      @MrJagermeister 3 года назад +3

Disagree in the case of Deathloop. It’s not just a human infiltrating your game taking over any NPC. They’re taking over Julianna - one of the eight Visionaries on that island that has a vested interest in not having the loop broken. You’re playing as Colt, the head of security gone rogue, who was meant to be there for the explicit purpose of protecting the very loop that you’re trying to break. And all the other Visionaries don’t remember how many times the day has rolled over. For Colt and Julianna though, their memory carries over. It’s Groundhog Day for them.
A human Julianna infiltrating your game is the biggest challenge you’ll likely face on the path towards destabilizing the loop (which is what happens when you kill multiple Visionaries in a single day). The AI becomes more intelligent and aggressive and obviously Julianna will come after your ass. I think that out of any game, it makes the most sense in Deathloop to have this mechanic. Though I do quite enjoy the hide-and-seek infiltration of Watch Dogs when another player invades your game.

The biggest issue i found with the game is i don’t think that rogue lite mechanics mesh well with the arkane style immersive sim. if you have to get through a loop in order to keep your stuff and use your residium you’re less likely to experiment in creative ways. i actually didn’t find the game easy. i kept dying before i could get the residium to infuse the things i wanted. pair this with playing the same 4 maps over and over and over and going against the same enemies over and over and over and it just wasn’t good
