Jerry Cantrell: one of the only successful musicians to remain uncompromisingly himself, still releasing dynamic, emotive songs with those signature, sinister harmonies.
First time I heard this song after watching John Wick 2. When the song came playing. I felt I was safe at home but sad and teary eyed. Then a voice started singing. So familiar that I felt goosebumps. It's Jerry Cantrell. Thank you for always making good music. Helps Me a lot through hard times.
Don't forget Billy Corgan or Mark Arm. Well, sort of forget Corgan; just a little. But there's also Kevin Martin from Candlebox and Zach de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine still kicking, even if they're not with the same bands or lineups anymore. But of the ones who were widely popular, Eddie and Jerry are really the only ones left, now that Corgan's gone off into left field.
paddmaddproductions sorry but I’m not hearing it myself. Down in a Hole is my favorite song ever so I may be a little biased though. Badass tune regardless!
Definitely not, song is perfect for John Wick, and if we´re gonna bring up another franchise I feel this song and vid have some "Silent Hill" vibes on it.
yes. just watched john wick 2. wasn't sure if alice in chains (newer or what) a couple minutes on the google and I got here. really cool song. I'm not an alice in chains follower so much but i love their sound. this song is authentic and very welcome.
The song was released just before the movie, so of course I went to the movie opening night to hear the song during the credits. I definitely felt the Alice vibe but it is unmistakably Cantrell, I love it!
michael iwaniec I don't think so. Jerry was president of his HS choir and often competed in choir competitions. Everything about harmonies he learned there. Layne only encouraged him to sing more. Cantrell always saw himself first as a guitarist and a singer out of necessity but Layne encouraged him to sing more.

Great movie and amazing Musician. Jerry Cantrell has to be my most favorite Guitarist, and when by the side of Layne or Will he is pretty unstoppable and unmatched. Though by himself he is still a force of awesomeness that is uncompared.
Hope he comes out with a new solo album. Jerry is my favorite out of the 90's music. Loved his first solo album. So Wick kills a boatload of people because someone killed his dog in the first movie. I heard in the new movie, someone kills his cat. In the third movie, someone kills his snake. Hope the new movie is an improvement. I cut you in Jerry.
DeathVerse09 Not possible because this isn't Alice in Chains. The other songwriter is Tyler Bates who works mostly with Marilyn Manson. The instruments are also not played by AIC. Would work better on a Cantrell solo or Deg Trip 3.
@@Banana_Split_Cream_Buns Boggy is more commercial and I still love that album but Deg Trip is more personal to Jerry. I don't think its Alice (although you can argue that they're both the same since Cantrell was AIC's main songwriter) Deg Trip was Jerry's biography in songs. Sad that Jerry no longer listens to his Deg Trip stuff and won't tour it despite being urged by both Bordin and Trujillo. Cantrell has said that it was a very dark time in his life when he was writing Deg Trip and something he doesn't want to revisit any time soon.
Exact same thoughts here... caught this track during the credits while watching the film just now; I couldn't help hearing Layne in my head. A sorely missed voice - one never forgotten.
Jefferson Cardona can we please just let Layne Staley go? Its been years. Its time for Jerry to get the recognition he deserves not just for being responsible for all of Alice In Chains songs and majority of their lyrics but also as an amazing guitarist and an equally talented singer. It was Layne himself who encouraged Jerry to sing. He clearly heard something there. So about time we just complement Jerry and not bring Layne into every single discussion about Jerry or AiC. Let's move on.
Layne is amazing for sure but always remember Jerry always wrote 90% of all his music with Alice in chains, the harmony was his idea when layne pushed him to do more vocals because he thought he could sing
@@thrall343 True story... Lane is a legend; however, most people don't know that Jerry wrote most of what Alice played and set the tone for the band. Jerry was the lightning and Layne was the thunder.
Jerry Cantrell hidden master of our Generation. He is only going to grow and deepen his talent and creative genius with age. Grateful to have grown with him on the soundtrack of my life.
The first moment I heard this song I knew it was Jerry Cantrell, it sounds 100% Alice in Chains. I hell of a song, like the good old times!! Excellent ost fro John Wick 2! I loved it!!
Jerry Cantrell is an amazing artist and it's great to see him still in pretty good shape, fully grown up musically, delivering this fab tune!! We went to see Alice in Chains live this summer 2018: they rock!
Wow, i somehow missed this one.. Even saw the flick! I'm a total AIC fan* Way dig JC too damn near the same! I actually met Cantrell after an AIC show in Cincinnati~ He actually shut a bunch of chicks down tryin to shlurp on em just to talk to me! I informed him that he wrote the soundtrack to my adolescent life, and it seems it aint stopped yet*!* He then signed my ticket stub, then pulled out a tour pick, (the devil tour) placed it atop the stub n handed it to me! Totally awesome dude~ Live on, play on Who knows where I'd be right now without your music °•○•° Keep writing the awesome new tracks Jerry °!°
Well, personal opinions but as a musician and music in general I prefer Jerry Cantrell. Slash is a better guitar player (technically) but Cantrell is more complete as a musician (imo ofc).
It's like saying "best band ever" or " best guitar player ever" dude their styles are drastically different... can't compare either one really to anyone else they both have such signature sounds...(my personal favorites actually)
Se siente toda la esencia pura de Alice in Chains en esta canción. Cuando la escuché la primera vez, casi juraba que Layne estaba siguiendo la voz de Jerry, en los 90s con toda la banda.
Love this track so much emotional content both in the lyrics and guitar, another Cantrell classic they just keep coming thanks again Jerry you've been blowing my mind since facelift 🤘😎
Love the Song... Jerry Has not lost his magic Sound, both vocally and on guitar... hope there will be another AIC Album... Next Year! ... Rock on and Thanks!!

Liberating Reality well said
Cantrell is the king!
Well said.
He' the chosen one...\m/
if you ever want to learn how to play his solo songs or Alice in chains songs on guitar check out...... The Cantrell Project (on youtube)
I. NEVER. GET. TIRED. OF. HEARING. THIS. ARTIST.
trident 731 alright, when did you serve aboard the Bama?
Be honest.
trident 731 You'll love his main band then.

trident 731 Check out Setting Sun from the Batman Dark Metal soundtrack.
Yeah instead of intolerable he's intireable
Good to see that Cantrell still remained faithful to the classic Alice in Chains sound and vibe.
Jerry Cantrell keeping grunge alive with every breath and cord.
That old sound 😆🤘🏻
This man is pure magic. Could've disappeared after what happened to Layne but continues to make amazing music
Jerry Cantrell and John Wick. Match made in heaven if you ask me...
I was waiting for the shift in harmony in the midsection and boy, was I not disappointed.
My goodness YES
that's such a Jerry/Alice thing, right? The shift :)
So evil sounding. I love it.
You knew it was coming
I watched a Rick Beato video about how influential Jerry's music is, but sadly, almost no one realizes it. One of my fave musician's ever.
I completely agree, but its so heartwarming to see his evolution as an artist from a true fan standpoint.
Jerry Cantrell is THE MAN.
Jerry, you never let us down.
The willie Nelson of Metal
Agree!!!
Jerry actually covered a Willie Nelson song "I've Seen All This World I Care to See"
I can see that🤌🏽
First time I heard this song after watching John Wick 2. When the song came playing. I felt I was safe at home but sad and teary eyed. Then a voice started singing. So familiar that I felt goosebumps. It's Jerry Cantrell. Thank you for always making good music. Helps Me a lot through hard times.
And you were safe at home. You felt him and I have too. Its wild and deep.
Same 🥹♥️
NAILED IT
Woulve been sadder if it was used for John wick 4
This song is a master piece
Love how he has that grudge soul
Jerry Cantrell absolutely brilliant.
Mr. Cantrell and Mr. Wick. Two modern heroes of mine ❤
I miss cleaning theaters to this.
As Long as we still Have Jerry Cantrell living and breathing among us I will continue to have hope for this world.
I feel exactly the same way!
Amen :) ❤❤❤❤
Jerry and Eddie Vedder, our last heros. Please take care.
And Mark lanegan !!!!!
Although they were part of the Seattle seen, they are not on the same level as Vedder and Jerry.
Aaron Pannell Dave has continued to make great music, Jerry too
Don't forget Billy Corgan or Mark Arm. Well, sort of forget Corgan; just a little. But there's also Kevin Martin from Candlebox and Zach de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine still kicking, even if they're not with the same bands or lineups anymore. mark where the fuck are you we need you
Everything he does is perfect.
So true! Jerry is a God, an extremely creative, talented God. He's so humble at the same time; absolutely love Jerry Cantrell!
Just heard this at the end of John Wick 2. It's dope.
Jerry Cantrell is a man of focus
I can totally hear Layne singing this, its almost creepy like you can hear him if you listen closely, RIP Layne Staley
Jerry tends to sing one of the harmonies with a "Layne style" tone to give it the classic AIC sound. He perfected it on Black Gives Way To Blue.
I'm feeling a Black Gives Way To Blue vibe here, pure excellence as usual from Jerry.
Listen to Cantrell's second solo album Degradation Trip. This song fits it more (imo).
All I can think of is 'Down In A Hole' when listening to this
Degradation Trip Volume III
paddmaddproductions sorry but I’m not hearing it myself. Down in a Hole is my favorite song ever so I may be a little biased though. Badass tune regardless!
Say that
Jerry's voice is so distinct. Knew it was him right away. Love what he evolved into as a musician. He can only get better. Rock on!!
same lol
pretty remarkable for a man who thinks his own voice is NOT remarkable.
i thought it was aaron lewis from staind this whole time
Really...people gave this a thumbs down??? No accounting for taste anymore I guess...another instant hit for Jerry!!! Love this track!!!
the thumbs down were from people who are tone deaf.
Man, just watched the movie... And then this little gem popped up. That old skool AIC sound. I love this.
Jerry's music gets under my skin! Music you feel and not just hear.
Good to see Jerry again, he's the reason I started playing and enjoying music. Just amazing.
Same here! Fucking great! Always one of my favourite

Jerry should do the next 007 soundtrack
+1
Nah, He's on the John Wick Soundtrack, He's good.
Imagine that lol. Creepy James Bond.
Definitely not, song is perfect for John Wick, and if we´re gonna bring up another franchise I feel this song and vid have some "Silent Hill" vibes on it.
Cornell did the best bond track to date 😎
Love it, Jerry's voice and tone are instantly recognizable. Plus the end of this video got me feeling some type of way

Man, how I wish Jerry Cantrell release a new solo album.
am I the only who can some how hear Layne in my head harmonizing along with Jerry?
Randy Patt I think Jerry learned a lot about vocals from Layne it shows here and yes when I first heard this song I thought it was Layne for a min
michael iwaniec I don't think so. Jerry was president of his HS choir and often competed in choir competitions. Everything about harmonies he learned there. Layne only encouraged him to sing more. Cantrell always saw himself first as a guitarist and a singer out of necessity but Layne encouraged him to sing more.
Who can put jerry under a shadow?? Wtf
I'm with you
Oh yes!....😭💔 R.I.P. Layne🥀🕯️
This shit needs to be on Spotify with all his other masterpieces
Time to get

Another face that
File away
Turned the corner
Long ago
Never looked back
Never slowed
Under
The still of night
Sending
In shifting light
I am not
One you see
All the days that
Will ever be
Not for pleasure
Not for show
Burning bridges
One to go
Under
The still of night
Waiting
In shifting light
I see you
Just another job to do
Lead me to
Clear unobstructed view
Trying not to give
I see you
Just another job to do
Trying not to give
Myself away
Feel me nearer
What's to come
Only color
That doesn't run
Under the dead of night
Blending with shifting light
I see you
Just another job to do
Lead me to
Clear unobstructed view
Trying not to give myself away
Never let you down
Won't make a sound
Never let you down
Won't make a sound
Never let you down
Won't make a sound
Never let you down
Won't make a sound

Thanks for sharing, it's almost like the lyrics weren't in the video.
I still can't believe he did this song live this weekend!
JOHN WICK WAS AN AWESOME MOVIE ,THIS SONG IS AWESOME TOO!

I REALLY WISH JERRY WOULD DO ANOTHER SOLO ALBUM. Wish i could hear all the extra cuts.
Boggy Depot and Deg Trip were both amazing.
Layne Staley should be proud for that song.
Sounds amazing, 100% Alice in Chains.
LOVE IT
Alice In Chains should put this song on their next album, as a bonus track. That would be amazing.
they really should!
DeathVerse09 Not possible because this isn't Alice in Chains. The other songwriter is Tyler Bates who works mostly with Marilyn Manson. The instruments are also not played by AIC. Would work better on a Cantrell solo or Deg Trip 3.
I thinks it's time for Boggy Depot II.
dirtintodust D trip was pretty awesome too
Degradation Trip blew Boggy Depot out of the water, in my opinion.
they're different. I love both. But D Tip is just intense from the first song to the last. 25 really solid songs.

killer song
Another great by Mr. Cantrell!! :)
I love you, Jerry!
I'm here after watching John Wick 2 😢 I felt the spirit of Layne 🕯️🖤singing through Jerry's voice...
PUT THIS BACK ON SPOTIFY PLEASEEEE
Jerry Cantrells music = the soundtrack of my life... Thank you Sir
Jerry's solo work needs its own channel on RUclips, he deserves to get paid...
amazing, jerry is a god
Incredible song 💜
Listening to the vocal harmony it's impossivel not remember Layne's influence, besides that, full Jerry and his best. HUGE LIKE

How does Jerry keep up this standard time after time ? Great artist.

It's never late to rock, love you're back in the game, Jerry! Waiting for a show in Moscow!!!
