    Due to gyro aim having accessibility concerns for people with limited mobility or parkinson's, this is definitely a nice sidegrade! I still think that Trackpad+Gyro will work best for most, but I'll never turn down innovation.

  • @Passypass4
    @Passypass4 3 года назад +5

    You are still controlling it with just your thumb, that's one major of the reason mouse and kb is more precise. Not sure if that limited movement would be that beneficial, that's why you don't see a gamer using a tiny mouse pad.
    Good luck with your idea, just seems counter productive. It does remove the fact that joysticks drift and get bad though.

      It's way better than the analog stick simply because it's not limited to the base of the stick and if you're am arm aimer you just create tension in your thumb to keep it steady and basically just an extension of your forearm almost like you would a jitter click in minecraft, personally I prefer nunchuck and mouse so hopefully in the future we can see all sorts of different types of first party controllers, consoles just need to step it up, I picked up an xbox series s hoping to basically cop a 1080 60 pc with record setting load times for only $300 but all I got was a glitch preventing me from using kb and mouse on mw, no kb and mouse support for home screen or WEB BROWSING, no audio support for usb and no direct streaming to youtube, so I can't imagine we'll be seeing any first party innovations from console manufactures any time soon. if controller finger mouse thingy is what this guy plays best with then this project was as productive as it gets. As a controller player I'd love more options for configuration and diversity in controlling hardware in general, as far as I'm concerned aim assist is just an excuse not to innovate or just let people use shit they already have sitting around

I’ve used oils or finger sleeves to compensate for the drag you experience on a screen. The finger mouse looks amazing. I believe a gyroscope would be an amazing addition, but that’s something game devs would have to had already implemented. This of course is all speaking in a FPS oriented gauntlet of games.

    Your top score with the thumb mouse was 36k? After maybe 6 attempts, my top score with the steam controller touch pad only was 35k. So.... About on par.
    My score with gyro though? Well over 70k.
    The gyro gaming community at large? Pushing 90k. Even our least competitive players are over 50k. Gyro is just so much better....
    So this confirms my suspicions about the thumb mouse; it shares its weak link with the touch pad, which is that the thumb is horrible at aiming. Always has been.

    people on low sens be like: "where is my space"

  • @Zhiznestatistiks
    @Zhiznestatistiks 3 года назад +3

    Checking out your gameplay and aimlab footage, i am confident now, that you are simply reinventing a steam controller with larger active zone(the likes of which you yourself admit is being excessieve). Since you also use only one thumb for aiming.
    For starters let's us do some math. You showcase your touchpad having ~3.5 inch height and widnth. But it reality it's smaller wince you can't move a sensor closer to a side than it's radius. which is around 0.4 inch(diamter is ~0.8 inch), so 3.5 - 0.8 = 2.7inch square of usable space. And steam controller has 40mm touchpads which is roughly equals to a circle of 1.57inch diamter, So what you essentially do, is add an extra inch of active tracking space, which you yourself admits, not always comfortable using despite having large hands(btw i myself too has a large hands and motion ragne of ~1.57 inch diamter circle of SC feels comfortable for me, but when i go out of it even half an inch, i feel tension in my thumb muscles)
    The absolute lie about touchpads being "choppy".
    It's very unetical of you to spread misinformation about all the touchpads having some sort of "choppiness" while tracking. Most of them do not. For example i have both Steam Controller and logitech K400+ tv keyboard with rouchpad at my side right now. Even if i press with all my force on k400+ touchpad (which you for some reason do in you video, and you shouldn't, since no one does this with their pointing deices) it's exhibit as little as 1-5% of choppiness you showingj, with all of it vanishing when i stop pressing on it like it ows me money.
    The lie about friction.
    The fact that you say smartphone screens have some sort of friction and as much as touchpad is preposterous. Everyone who owns a smartphone and sometimes clean the screen know that glass has almost zero friction. Touchpad's on the other hand has some friction, and yes it has an slight effect on you gliding speed, but not precision(at least on Steam Controller). It's more about having a feedback for you actions. And the amount of force friction touchpads provide is oh so much less, than the amount of inertia having to move a several grams of opticals sensors on your thumb provide. Like thing with mass have enertia. Thumb on touchpad have an inertia of thumb minus surface fritction(which is negligeble and wears out with time). Thumb + a sensor weight equals more inertiat + mouse legs friction (which they have, unless theare pure aluminium sheets or something).
    (btw on steam contoller the friction wears out after 100 or so hours of usage)
    The superior quality of Steam Controller touchpads.
    Steam controller on the other hand has zero chopinnes, no matter if you squish it down or not and in my tests has so much precision, that it's possible to use it as a device with absolute (non relative like mouse) cursor moving on a fullhd screen.
    This is because Steam Controller has special industrial grade touchpad made for a precise aiming with no acceleration (which is the actually real notebook touchpad problem, alongside cheap office mouse optical sensors if you didn't know), but with the ability to implement it in software alongside trackball style sliding. So unless you have a similar grade touchpad, or at least tried the "normal" notebook touchpad, you wouldn't experience any "chopinnes". You should buy Steam Controller and test it for yourself. Or you maybe even buy devkit with it's touchpad, the manufacturer sells it for around 70$ with evertying soldered and connected to arduino. check out ifixit teardown.
    Of cource having lots of additional buttons is a godsend. The wheel is meeh. I personally fing it not very helpful in an active game where you need to juggle you weapons constantly. The thumb claster fori instant weapons changing is the best. But the wheel with good amount of tension is indeed a second best thing after that.

      not to mention thumb socks.
      he glues his thumb mouse module to a thumb sock for better fitment.
      a thumb sock on its own literally solves any complaints about friction with the track pad. I use one with my steam controller, its pretty awesome.

    If you were to make a touch controlled version of this magnificent peripheral, I would suggest using a glass touchpad. While glass may not be the best material for a touchpad if you are taking into consideration friction, almost everyone has an innate understanding of how to use a glass sensor because we all use touchscreen phones on the daily. I believe it would be VERY easy to familiarize one's self with a touchpad version of your masterpiece if it felt like a phone screen instead of a ultra low friction material.

I do have a question, though... Have you considered adding a gyroscope that emulated the mouse on top of the mouse? It could be togglable with a button, as well as when toggled on, only sending mouse input when the thumb sized mouse is on the mouse pad, similar to touch activation of the gyro on the steam controller
