- I picked up this really cool build but it has this knock, no loss of power, seems to run good. engine does shake a little bit which I'm not sure is normal. she is built pretty heavy, has a cam and heads, should be pushing around 500 horsepower to the crank... any ideas on what this noise could be? part of me thinks maybe a rod bearing? also heard other videos online that sound like this and they are lifters, anyway to test either? I look forward to your comments.

Oil pick up tube o-ring allowing air in a lifter. It will come and go until you replace the o-ring. I chased this one for a while.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I got this same knock, with no power loss, it disappears when i step on the gas just like yours
I am told it is likely piston slap due to the piston rocking back and forth as it goes up and down. Supposedly you can run it for a long time without issue though so I suppose I'll deal with it!
Have you figured it out? Got the same problem.
did you ever fix yours
It had bad bearings, probably from when the crank pulley got lose and a lot of metal shavings got in to the engine. We rebuilt it and now it runs & sounds great!@@roshawn1111
@@TurboLundin ok thanks hopefully mines is just a lifter, it just got rebuilt around 10k miles ago
@@roshawn1111 We did change the lifters also. Hope that is your only problem!
I brought it to a mechanic who has built race engines for years for boats. He diagnosed it as piston slap due to the Pistons being so low profile, they can shift back and forth has the piston goes up and down causing that sound. It is known for LS motors to have piston slap, especially when they are cold. Not all of them do but some do.
Hey did you ever figure out what caused the knock??
did you eveer fix it?
I didn't ever fix it but I actually brought it to a friend who built racing motors his whole life. He brought out his stethoscope and went in and started testing to see where the sound was coming from and he said that it was piston slap. Due to these pistons being very short in height on LS motors they tend to shift back and forth as they go up and down and that causes the knock. He told me it should be able to run for quite some time without any issues but at some point in the future the cylinder sleeve Will wear out in that area but it could take quite a while.
what vehicle is that?
I will be making a video of it soon but don't want to run it much until i figure the noise out... its a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport with a 550HP LS2 Swapped over.
