Thanks, this gives me a high degree of confidence that the NCS/EMG study that I am scheduled for will actually yield some valuable information to enable my physician to do an accurate diagnosis.

How would look if axonal sprouting did not happen. Does that mean that emg would be more like myopathy?
Also, if someone has neuropathic changes in one muscle, does the compensation, when axonal sprouting does occur include polyphasic vawes that are bigger compared to other leg (healthy side), since they should include more motor units?

Hi, Thanks for the great video. Sometimes myopathies can give fibrillations at rest, which is what happens to be showing at the EMG example. Also, on slight movement, it gave a brief small abundant polyphasic pattern, which was also present in the example. However, at the end, which I assume it was due to full contraction, the pattern is supposed to be of full low-amplitude pattern, but the pattern that was showing is of a giant polyphasic one ! which is not compatible with myopathy, it is compitable with a neuropathy however. I need an explanation for that because unfortunately I couldn't hear a word at the end due to the loud sound of the EMG at the background. Thanks in advance.

Dr.HusamEddin Alaila Hi, thanks for the question. There's nothing giant about the units at all. The gain isn't displayed but is 0.1mV so the amplitudes are 0.6-0.7mV which is small. Bw Simon

Thank you for the clarification, but isn't it supposed to be "full" pattern in myopathy on full activity ? I mean, I still can see some pauses between the MUAPs !

Dr.HusamEddin Alaila Hi, this was a minimal contraction and it does get quite full, very rapidly. Usually you would only see a few motor units at this point. The key time zone for assessing myopathy is at the beginning and so that's all that I presented. Bw Simon

Oh, that explains it all. I thought it was a full contraction. Thank you so much and keep the good work.
