      I don't get why they dare to play with such a terrible singer being paid and also don't get why Korean Crowds don't react to the poor singings but their own fanatic religion.
      I always make it a intuitional habit to ignore the surfacing musical 'product' general public in Korea fell in crazy solely like a pseudo-religion, which always worked successful in remaining my purity of the sense of listening music without being 'Commercialized, Popped or Fanaticalized'.

    When the original Images & Words album first came out in 1992, there was nothing else like it in music at that time. It was completely different and unique. When I first heard it, I was absolutely amazed of how great it was. Even though it was complicated complex Progressive Metal, I absolutely loved it on first listen.

    Images & Words was released 26 years ago. It's absolutely natural he has problems singing the very high notes. A solution would be to focus on songs that are within a more comfortable range for him. Just listen to him at 17:49. He sounds great whenever he is in the right range.

    • @MrFritzinger
      @MrFritzinger 6 лет назад +2

      I'll add: Wait For Sleep has NEVER sounded better! James' performance on this tune is absolutely beautiful in my opinion. As is Jordan's of course. Convince yourself 57:53 and then tell me that wasn't absolutely perfectly sung.

      I love JLB but still can't figure out why he doesn't rewrite the vocal lines for live concerts all a little lower (like he did in this Surrounded except that phrase towards the end which in fact sounded bad).
      He actually often goes even higher than the original and ends up sounding like an ugly scream instead of his absolutely beautiful voice.

    I'm sure James is the sort of guy who has really looked after his voice and still does to a certain level today.His recordings on images and awake are awesome and even albums after that are pretty damn good.i seem to remember seeing him training his voice or warming up on the score dvd.

    I don’t understand all the hate on mangini!!! He sounds great, he’s playing great, and I barley even notice the difference!! He just has to play with them for a bit longer until they all have the “perfect groove”! And if he forgets to do the exact fill sometimes, give him a break, he’s only been in the band for 7 years and had SO much music to learn!

    • @wb4210
      @wb4210 6 лет назад +3

      "Only" 7 years? Give me a break. He has had enough time to learn everything and he is a better drummer than Portnoy.

    • @MattKittredge2112
      @MattKittredge2112 4 года назад +6

      W B Mangini adds his own spin on certain parts of the Portnoy era songs on purpose. He even talked about this in a recent interview he did, stating that if he were to play the songs EXACTLY like Portnoy, fans would call him a “creep”, a “robot”, “unoriginal” etc. But if he plays them his own way, then fans accuse him of “not knowing how to play Portnoy’s parts”. In the end, it’s a lose-lose situation for him, and I can’t blame him for feeling that way, so he just does what he feels suits the songs, while still trying to stay close enough to the original arrangements.

      yet he is just lacking finesse in his playing i mean his hihat playing is not good at all . it is like someone is playing drums on nativeinstruments battery or ezdrummer and not an actual friggin drummer . the main quality of their previous drummer is the friggin hihat. here i said it and i am a mangini fan and find ADTOE to be a stellar album drumwise . i truly think that marco minneman would have made dream theater better but he may have seen his solo career take a hit that's why he declined

    I don’t believe that’s labrie’s a bad singer, I just think when he tries to sing his older stuff it’s a struggle as it would be for anyone of that age. This really comes true when he sings songs that don’t consist of very many high notes, he is very capable of staying in tune and in control. It’s just something that everyone needs to understand

      He should modify the way he sings their old stuff, maybe to try a style similar to Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius) to module the voice in a low volume instead of trying to reach the high notes with raw power and high volume, Timo lost power too but in my opinion he approached his weakness with wisdom and he knows his current limitations. I don't know, maybe LaBrie needs to take some singing classes (even with his experience) and learn to know his limitations too...

    I really Like the way Mangini Plays, But having said that listening tho Take the time, and he make a lot of parts to sound flat and cares of soul, I know maybe is a little boring to play someone else songs, but common this song has a lot of groove in it don't make that many changes to it, it's ok to interpret but not at that extreme, I like Mangini as a Drummer but some song needs to be played more like the original because the other instruments have that funky groove feel and the drums sounds like a machine.

      Way better than what Portnoy played.
      This is what is sounds like when the drummer allows the rest of the band to shine - playing with incredible time, finesse, dynamics and groove.
      We were so used to drummer diarrhea that it's hard to recognize actual virtuosity.
      Mangini brought all those songs to vivid life. One of the most spectacular musical displays from a band I've ever heard.

      @@carl13220- I loved the sound on ADTOE, but he was way too low in the mix.
      I'm not a fan of the snare on the three middle albums, but after a while I can "hear the drum". Not triggered, just tuned really punchy.
      The problem is that it was tuned like a tubby vat offat with snares on it. It actually reminded me of Portnoy's triggered snare on I&W. Gross!
      The snare on ADTOE is really good though.

      I loved this album as a kid, but man... Mangini revealed all the insanity that JP, JM, and JR conduct up there.
      He's hitting all the important accents. He's shading in where needed, tastefully. He's paying with such incredible power, and control. He's also subdued and melancholy where needed. I don't usually see someone like this. He is uncommon. He is an anomaly.
      They are so precise and grounded that the Atomic Clock sets itself to them. Absolutely bokers.

    Personally, I don’t mind if the songs are half step down or a whole step down. I also don’t mind if james doesn’t sing every single high note anymore, i actually like changes like on on Another Day. What i think doesn’t sound good is when James does high notes where there shouldn’t be, he should just always sing in a lower, more comfortable register

    I’ve got to say comparing James’ vocal performance at this show compared to Wacken in 2015, he sounds better. It is obvious that his vocals have deteriorated massively in the last 5 years or so, but I think his main problem is the high notes he sounds passable the rest of the time. Anyway this happens to most singers, aging takes a toll on the voice, just look at Geddy Lee from Rush, he can’t hit the notes he hit in the 70’s but that just comes with age.

  • @DVTOM
    @DVTOM Год назад

    James can still hit the highs but can't do it with grit anymore. He struggled in Pull Me Under but then again he still can sing these songs.

    • @nicknelson634
      @nicknelson634 Год назад

      Well him trying to sing Under a Glass Moon says otherwise. Has nothing to do with grit, he simply can't hit the notes anymore
