It would serve as a forward base for US for logistics, maintenance and repair facility for US assets especially naval. And if and when India decides to join USA more actively it could do so more seamlessly with experience on common platforms and interoperability

Would it we wrong to say that not withstanding India’s reluctance to openly align with USA, it would be in US interest to strengthen India militarily and economically, because the stronger India gets, more Chinese resources will be tied up to counter India, conversely reducing its capacity on its eastern front
