Bob's Game could (and should have been) a really good psychological horror story ARG about delusions & resentment and how they can torpedo creators, but as it is, I really don't know what it is.
The thing was he wasn't "stringing" any along, he basically just came up with the whole "it was all a game" thing as a way to explain why nothing was ever made and for his erratic behavior up that point. The only person he was stringing along was himself. The man has some serious mental health issues including but not limited to egomaniacal and anti-social behavior and extreme paranoia. This kinda thing happens all the time with people with untreated mental health issues, they keep on coming up with excuses and ways to explain away their behavior and sometimes they're convincing to the point where people who are unfamiliar with them and their issues, that they actually start to believe them. The horrible thing about that is, it's about the worse thing that can happen in that situation. As when that happens it just reaffirms the person beliefs that they aren't "sick" and if they haven't already, they start to believe their lies and almost become addicted to all the attention it brings them. It then pushes them further away from getting real help, which then just continues in a endless cycle usually getting worse and worse until it eventually (and it will eventually) something really bad happens.

She hears a voice in her head claiming to be the sun and doubts it really is, but because it's claims of why it doesn't want her to make the game seem wrong rather than the fact it's a voice randomly in her head. She saw nothing wrong with hearing the voice itself. She had a hallucination, realized it wasn't what it was claiming to be, but didn't realize it was a hallucination. I've never heard of that before, it's usually either "oh I'm hallucinating" or "yes, the sun told me not to make the game."
Ive heard from my own therapist that sometimes knowing your hallucinating is worse then not knowing. Its like having a existential crisis. Like am i crazy or is there some higher power really talking 2 me. I could see how bad that would be if your religious or believe in some type of afterlife

The Bob's Game guy seems like a complete dbag, but that story is kinda sad. The guy seemed talented (though not as much as he thought) and probably could have gone on to make some good games. But seems like he's ego far outstripped his ability or effort. Now time has passed him by and RPG Maker games look just as good and it's easier than ever for indie developers to sell their games.
I don’t get why the guy can’t buy a weather balloon and a GoPro, it’s not like you need a shit ton of money to see the curvature of the earth. I’m not sure how much it would cost to send a weather balloon up but I feel like that (approximately) 5 grand that he got should be able to send up a few at least!
As someone working to get my Borderline diagnosed, they don’t want to help us. A lot of the time they avoid us, overcharge is, or take advantage of us. Getting disability because I can’t work without severe daily panic attacks even with therapy is impossible and they make it an unlivable wage too. We scream “care for people and three mental health” but those same people don’t say those same things for those with personality disorders and call us “crazy” when in reality we just need help figuring out how to control it in our lives.

That molly one reminds me of an ex-girlfriend, long story short, she tried to stab me with a knife because a black smoke was talking to her... Schizophrenia is an horrible monster... People suffering from it are captive of their own mind, you can't do anything to help them and they can become a danger (for anyone, mostly for themselves) at any moment without a preceding clue. Chronic depression is painful (I suffer from it), but schizophrenia... That thing is terrifying.
i feel terrible for Molly. delusions can be debilitating and extremely dangerous to the person they affect. she seems like a genuinely creative person with fun ideas, but her mental health is affecting her ability to think clearly. it's not an excuse for her racism - that is absolutely awful, there's no reason for that, absolutely none. being intersex can add a whole layer of medical complexity and social othering, and i feel for her in that sense. i truly hope that she gets the help she needs and sorts out her racism issues.

Robert's story is a sad one - people with the mental horsepower to achieve feats like his, are often vulnerable to instability and if undetected or untreated can result in serious psychoses taking root. At the very least a fragmentation of a person's cohesion - which is regrettably obvious as time goes on. Mental health - yours, mine and everyone in between. The least we can do is to treat others well and for those clearly suffering, help if we can.

Robert's story is a sad one - people with the mental horsepower to achieve feats like his, are often vulnerable to instability and if undetected or untreated can result in serious psychoses taking root. At the very least a fragmentation of a person's cohesion - which is regrettably obvious as time goes on.
Mental health - yours, mine and everyone in between. The least we can do is to treat others well and for those clearly suffering, help if we can.

If you really, really needed to park it on your driveway, you’d design a Zenith. Sometimes you really wish that the kickstarter-pages would review every new campaign to sort out those that are obviously bollocks or made by incompetent/stupid/insane people, so they'll never come to fruition.
While I agree; kickstarter would be better at using PayPal as the only form of payment. That way even if the Kickstarter was discovered to be a scam; those backers would get their money back and those scammers end up being blocked from kickstarter.

I've just started a kickstarted and in 24 hours I've had two different people message me asking me to pay them to promote my kickstarter. one claims they are the reason things like the coolest cooler got so big and loads other that are all done and got loads of attention . Other actually has done an OK job and looks alright, Is this a common scam on the inside that others receive? Not gonna pay them obviously just wondering if anyone else is aware of them? 😂

The first Kickstarter I've seen that's failed because the person doing it was actually quite literally insane. And then another where the guy was pretending to be insane, but he's actually just some like new age hippy that's very into psychology and things.
