- Calves are lots of fun to have around the farm, and they can be a pain too! In this video I take a lighter look at calf behavior: their daily habits and all the shenanigans that get them into trouble. Fences? They're just a general guideline. Moms yelling? They'll come when they feel like it. I wouldn't have it any other way; calves are part of the reason I love raising cattle!

Nice, and you can tell how well you like the calves shenanigans! You were smiling a lot in this video.
One of the best/worse experiences I've had with calves is having to pull them. I will never forget my first, out in the middle of now where, dare I say.... I had to resort to using a quad bike for the pull (but as gently as I could) & because mum was prolapsed, I sent a young farm worker I had helping to try to find mobile service with my phone to call the vet while I held Mum together (literally) The poor young bloke didn't know what hit him & after he talked to the vet & he was on his way, the young worker asked me, "so how many have you had to do this with"......... it was my first too!!! I must admit that after that, I discovered the previous farm manager had let the bull go over the heifers far too soon, hence the problems we had later. P.S. at that point, I had no experience with cattle, so I had to learn the hard way. I'm certainly not a stock person, I did the best I could at the time with very minimal knowledge. Thanks again for sharing your peace of paradise.
Holy cow! The channel has almost quadrupled since I subscribed just a couple of months ago. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Nate!
Y'all have some beautiful calves Mr. Pete! You've sold me on Dexters.
Great info on calves. Its 9-2020 and it was nice to see when Doc was born.
Great video just love watching these with the animals. Keep up the good work jafaf😃
Mischievous Young Calves. Brings back memories lol. Our neighbor behind us had one that seemed to love hanging out in our yard for some reason. We spent 3 months trying to figure out how he got out. Never did solve that mystery.
Seems to me that enjoying the calves puts some enjoyment into what would be a boring day. Pete Thanks for sharing.
Caught myself smiling all through this video
You are sharing happiness with your Calves and with us that smile on your face says it all,Thank you for a happy video.
Hey, I am new subscriber here from India. This is second video after 35 cattle in 30 acres video. Looking forward to learn more and enjoy just watching your happy cattles.
That was a really fun video. Calves van be hilarious! Thanks for sharing!
This video is a hoot! You can’t tell me you don’t love these calf’s just like you would a pet. I love it.
We had Hereford and Hereford cross. Great mothers and gentle for the most part. Only one I remember was a little mean. Good memories of the farm. ☺️
Thank you so much for your videos. I enjoy them a lot, and I learn a lot aswell. With kind regards Torben Gram, Denmark
Thanks for this. I was smiling throughout the whole video!
So much easier to raise cattle than dairy cows. 35 seems like a good size herd for you and Mrs. L to handle.
Nice looking calves. Yep, they're well known for getting into things. Always enjoy watching the calves out in the pasture. Stay safe.
The effort you put into your videos is hugely appreciated - every video seems to be very well thought out, thank you! I'd be interested to know how filming affects the day to day farm chores?
Me, too... Plus what cameras he uses and how he gets those angles...
Those of us that dream of farming long for videos like yours! I just love learning about these amazing creatures! They look so happy and satisfied. Thank you for taking the time to share your life and farm with us! I love every moment!
Hi Pete. Very fun video. It is truly amazing the trouble those lil nose lickers can get into at only a couple days old. Keep up the good work & cheers 🍻from Prairie Sunset Ranch☀️
Sweet lovely commentary.
Love seeing your channel grow! Well done Pete and family!!
Great video, I really enjoyed your upbeat/fun tone about cows calves.
Love your videos Pete. Thank you for all that you do.
The videos you made about Dexter are the reason I am currently looking tjhe possibilites of having one myself. Its a bit harder in Germany due to a lot of paperwork, but it is possible.
Terrific vid Pete. That was fun to see calves being calves. 😉🇨🇦
Amazing videos, It´s curious how me getting into my forties ( and specially with this Covid situation ) am looking more and more in depth to have a farm life. spent my life so far in a crazy rat race, i´m a EU citizen and been working and traveling in EU country's, currently i´m living in a small 30m2 studio in a big city, and the social distancing and keep at home is the drop that is making my glass overflow. You´ve got a great channel, and great life. i hope soon i can be doing something similar. ( starting to work on it )
I love this video (but I love them all). Thank you for posting it
Hello Pete. I believe I've seen everyone of your videos and I really enjoy them. As others have said, you do an excellent job. More than that, you and your family exemplify the American ideal. In these troubled days, your good example is appreciated. Thanks and keep 'em coming.
I enjoy your videos, you seem like a good hard working guy just enjoying life and living life your way. Good luck and my God bless you and your family.
Hi Pete! Great video. I’m always amazed at the variety of names you have for the cattle. Where do you get the names from? It’s a worthy topic for a video.
Loving this video
So very true! Get them addicted to range cubes for even more fun! Also, cotton seeds is like a candy for them.
Pete your cows are beautiful.
Really great video!! Thanks...
Beautiful herd!👍👍👍
Great video!
We had Angus growing up on our farm, and the calves would like to come up and head butt into your backside side when you weren't watching them.
Another great video! Thanks for sharing
Those calves are going back to the future 😂🤣
When you get em in the trailer be sure not to hit 88mph
Ha ha! The wheels would fall off our old trailer long before then!
Nice love these videos keep it up
Awesome funny video
Cool video...
You would make a great presenter.
enjoy the calves....
So darn cute!
Good job!
great video!!!
Well said!
merci mon ami viva farm (thank you)
No wonder they're skittish, first time they meet you you carry them away to dehorn them and give them a ugly earring. ;)
Hahahaha, they sound like my kids!
Brilliant
Marty hey Doc Brown how many jigawatts in those electric fences? Lets got to the Moonlight Under the tree dance
lol!
I am a big fan of your channel. I have a question. Do you use any type of Livestock Guardian Animal? If so, why? If you do not, why not?
Hi Kermit, we've been looking for a border collie but haven't found one yet, mainly to help protect the poultry when they're in the field.
Hello Pete, do your Dexters, especially the calves, ever have a problem with predators such as mountain lions or wolves?
No, we don't have any of those animals here. Closest thing is Coyotes, but they don't bother the cattle.
i cant wait to go to my grandpas cuz i believe he has calves
Ok, it's settled then. I will raise cows! When I have a farm...in...a million years :D
I'm guessing you've never had a calf that was capable of unlatching every gate latch known to man with the only exception of a tightened nut and bolt . LOL
Hah ha! Nope never had one that could do that. They just run through the fence that's next to the gate!
Great video. Too short tho
I can't believe how much trouble I am having finding Dexter calves to purchase in Central Fla. There doesn't seem to be that many breeders and those say their calves are spoken for. I have 5 acres and would like 2 female calves (at least 1 red). I'm not sure if its possible to purchase from you. You are so far away.
Maybe it's just the camera but it sure looks like you are useing a green screen and a fan in your hair.....
LOL, you figured me out!
Awesome video ! Would you rather have more boys or girls being born ?
Hi Aaric, I prefer more males. They'll put on weight a little faster than females. But my answer a few years ago when we were expanding our herd would have been more females.
Just a Few Acres Farm you butcher most of the calves at 2 years right? Both the steers and heifers?
Yes around 28 months old. We only keep a few heifers for replacement breeding stock.
what if insted of numbering the cattle you put real names on them
👍
IH Us great job on the videos your a real professional. So much information it wants me to become a farmer. 🤗
nice consise video and good editing, this could easily be a long and boring 20 mins.
Why not seperate calf from mom ?
Teenagers!
Great video!
