I don't mind when chefs use ingredients like silver and gold foil to make their food look prettier, but the way he plopped them on made it look like aluminum/ium foil.
Yeah. Exactly. He put too much foil on there. I think one sheet would've given the right look while not covering up so much of the banana and marshmallow parts. It also might've allowed him to take his time placing the sheets to make the look more effective.
Silver leaf is perfect in a very controlled quantity to finish a macaron or custard tart on a afternoon tea. And in plenty of kitchens across this country gold leaf is added to an incredible dessert to push the price up. But yes, this application looks like he decided to spend as much of the BBC's money as he could to make it look like a lot more than it was when we get down to the substance of it..
Why are Masterchef UK (both amateur and professional) and Aust, NZ, so much better than Masterchef US and Canada? Not only that, we North Americans have a difficult time obtaining the UK content. I wish, they would allow either Netflix Canada or Amazon to show it.
Masterchef UK is the best by a country mile. The Australian and NZ versions are as dreadful as the US and Canadian versions. Why are they so bad? Because of their sentimentality and their excessive efforts to insert drama into their programmes.

Re: The professional Masterchef UK contestant who was mysteriously edited out of last year's series: I find it amazing that The BBC have managed to suppress the reason why they decided to cut out all of his bits from the show for all this time. Why hasn't anybody who knows him or knows why he couldn't be shown spoken out yet? There must be at least a dozen people who work on the show who know and all his family and friends surely know too. Why have they all kept quiet for nearly a year now? I've heard some amusing speculation, like he used somebody else's recipe or told Marcus to f off. There's no way The BBC would take such drastic action for those reasons. Also, if they did edit him out for either of those reasons, why would The BBC scare the many people who know what happened into silence? The only logical explanation is that he was about the appear in court on a serious charge and The BBC's legal people decided it wouldn't be wise to show him but if that's the case, wouldn't his trial be over by now? Even if it's still to come, would anybody really be in legal trouble if they just said he was edited out because he was about to stand trial? Maybe his defence team would argue that The BBC were implying he was guilty when cutting him out of the show. Anyway, it's all very strange how the public still don't know the reason for his disappearance. With the new series about to start, perhaps more and more people will remember last year's missing chef and will ask people associated with the show about the mystery and somebody will at least give a hint. I won't hold my breath but let's see.........
Instead of just plopping the silver onto the plate like pieces of torn aluminium foils, he could have covered the chocolate delice with the silver instead. It would be a wow factor for the judges like "woah chocolate? Where is it?" etc..
I 'get' that the foil is the chef's desired prescription, and as such--should, I believe, be met, ( by any judge), with an open mind. While this wonderful dish didn't NEED the silver foil, the foil itself is not enough to 'spoil' either the effect or taste of this lovely dessert. I am not so blase that, should this dish be set down in front of me, I would ridicule the look and refuse to try it as the chef intended. It would, for most diners, perhaps, be a unique and fun experience. As a viewer, I saw that the chef needed maybe another half of a minute to more artistically arrange the foil, even the size of the foil...I would be interested to see what he would have done had this not been a 'to the wire' contest moment.☺
the foil makes sense it looks like you unwrapped one of the old time foil wrapped devils food cakes filled with cream from years ago. clever if that was the intention.
Criticism try make yourself people let's see😂 its like politicians they take all credit fir soilder dying peoples who create technology science medicine but who's playing the card politicians 😂😂 not one politicians discover a thing in this world except for bla bla
Long haired git should go and repeat what this chef has just been put through. Have never liked him as a judge, he is the infantile one and needs less air.

He looks like he’s drunk dry the odd chocolate fountain in his time ....

There is no logic to BBC decisions.

Idk i think that would look a bit tacky Yk. Like personally I hate the look of gold or silver coloured food
Kindly upload seasons with subtitles...im hard of hearing...:(
I can only assume Jay Rayner has eaten from many chocolate fountains :)
Why do we always insist in being judged by people that are no where near as talented.
I hate critics. Coming in with their strong opinions on something they couldn’t do themselves.
Those who can't, critique.
Please help does anyone know what episode this is?
Wow! Beautiful to look at and yummy too.
The foil doesn't make sense
