- A reliable Japanese made motorcycle, impressive top end acceleration, sports bike handling, slick gearbox and a comfortable everyday bike.
Fuel economy is 47 mpg for city riding and 67 mpg for highway cruising.
"Not my fault I dropped the key in a black hole, Suzuki's fault....."
Sure it's my fault for being clumsy, but Suzuki could have given some thought into preventing a 'key trap'.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure it was frustrating for him. But it's not Suzuki's fault by any stretch of the imagination.
I have read and watched countless reviews on this motorcycle. While I've yet to ride it I can't wait to get one. As a Long time fan of the "Bandit" I'm suprised no one has made the connection. All the things that are done to improve the Bandit by owners have now been done by Suzuki. (I.e. performance, brakes, styling etc...) I would call this a "modern Bandit". Quite possibly the perfect motorcycle. Granted taste and personal preferences vary. If not already, I believe this bike will obtain the same loyal cult following. That my friends is a beautiful thing! Y'all ride safe, ride often!
Yes, it has the everyday ride ability of a Bandit , but lighter, faster & better handling 👍
I have made the connection, as I have a B1250S and am considering a heavily discounted S1KF. My interest is in less weight, a bit less size and more range for touring. I have test ridden the nakey version of this, so I have partial real-life experience to go on.
I wouldn't call this a modern Bandit simply because it doesn't have the nods to practicality (that form the basis for tour-ability) that the Bandit has (grab handles, strap points, a feasible pillion area, A CENTER STAND). While it does offer more athletic prowess, it still lacks cruise control (or even a Suzuki-offered throttle lock).
I do know there are people who have made go-fast mods to their Bandit, but I don't know if the S1KF replaces that for many of those people because the S1KF doesn't give you what a modded Bandit does (upright sporting bike vs SLEEPER MUSCLE).
What I would really love to see from Suzuki is a GSX-S750GT with working half-fairing and electronic cruise control, but I think what we'll get in the next two years is a S1KF with cruise, some version of IMU, a different dash and maybe integrated bags. If that ended up coming with a more substantial subframe, THEN I'd consider it the improved Bandit some of us longed for.
I just bought a 2007 Bandit 650s.......I see the connection.
I love the Bandit!
Great review. Ill be getting my Z next week!
Great, a worthwhile bike for your collection 👍
You're going to love it. It's a fantastic bike. Best i've ever owned.
Kinda cool how both started with a previous generation GSXR engine. BTW Steve nice job on the review/ video.
Just bought a 2016 1000f with only 2800 miles, the bike is very impressive. I think i got it for a really good deal at 6500.
Yeh, a good touring bike, really comfy.
Great honest review mate
Honesty is the best policy 😆
Thanks for a great review and heads up about the key black hole. I like the notion of having a bike thats gentlemanly usually but has the "after burners" at the ready should one want to use them.
Yes, having that extra horsepower is nice but rarely used, i like big cc engines that are tuned for the low down grunt.
I’d give my left keg to have this beautiful bike can’t go wrong with reliability. Suzuki rules Isn’t that right captain negative.
Suzuki make good value bikes, but their top end bikes are getting pricey. $27,000 for a Hayabusa 😒
I just picked up mine, brand new about 8 days ago. Got an excellent deal on it so it just under $15K. Like you I got a fair bit gear box clunk which I think is caused by the throttle snatch. Having said that the second time I took it out I found it had smoothed out to a fair degree and it's done about 823klms.. Having had a 2008 GSXR I found many similarities like the handling, seating comfort. Engine is different in power delivery, seems to be more midrange make 6th gear rollons from 80kph a breeze, even does it in 6th from 60kph with no problem. My 2008 Gixer had Tokico brakes so the Brembo's are a real change. At 6'2 I found that up to 120kph the screen does a fair job of keeping the wind off but once up to 140kph plus it's pretty ineffective, I believe a taller screen is available. Exhaust note is great, not quite as loud as the twin Yoshi's I had on the Gixer but more than enough coupled with the induction noise. Well I've been screwed royally on the insurance paying nearly 3 times what you paid so I'll be looking into that, considering I've got two other bikes, a house, and two cars insured with the same company. Oh and this was my 65th birthday present.
yes, with the new model arriving there should be good deals on the old model, my insurance is through yamaha. I am still happy with my Suzuki but looking to downsize to a 750cc.
Enjoy your new bike, $15,000 is a steal.😀
Gorgeous bike :)
Hows that little windscreen? Much buffeting? Loud wind noise?
Cheers
The screen works well, at 200kph there was little wind. It seams more effective at higher speeds. I wear ear plugs on long rides but no noticeable wind noise.
Very Nice 👍🏼
Thanks, I am still loving it👍
Great review. Looking at getting one myself. How many kilometres have you got on it since the review? Any issues arisen since this video?
One question, why mpg? It’s Australia, we have the metric system. Litres per kilometre would be more helpful. Further to this, were you using British mpg or US mpg in your calculations?
I can't understand km/litres, mpg is British gallons. I have 4,000 km so far & no further issues to report. I love this bike, it's comfortable, it's loud, it's fun & can get up & go.
Beautiful
OMG i dropped my key in the pocket of doom also. No idea if it's still in there. Have you checked trying to get it out?
I got my key out with a flexible tool that had a claw grip, the key is not magnetic.
End of the world 🤡
I loved this bike when I demo'd it. However, sadly Suzuki have got rid of the very few issues with it by stopping making it. Very sad.
Hello, are you saying Suzuki will not make a 2020 model & if so what will replace it?
@@cabralad It's not on the list for 2020. Looks like they're relying on the flop that is the Katana.
@@DaddyBiker_Reviews That's crazy, the katana can't match the versatility of the gsxs 1000f
I wanted to buy this bike, but this color was not available in my country :( so I've bought the MT09 SP..but still prefer this one
I understand, I waited 1 year for this colour to arrive in Australia. The SP colour looks great on the Yamaha's, I guess your happy with your bike.
Ha! You're not alone. I picked the MT09 over this too. MT is a great bike, but the zuki looks better imo.
I got a 2012 Suzuki GSXR1000 and a 2010 Yamaha FZ1S. I'm thinking of trading in the GSXR for this bike. I like the fuel consumption u mentioned.
Sounds like a good move, around town I fill up every 220 - 240 km
@@cabralad Actually the main reason is I feel myself getting too old to ride a sports bike.
@@7777Gixer Well you like the gsx s1000f, it's a comfortable everyday bike, can be ridden hard or just relaxed riding. A very versatile bike.
@@cabralad I will go ask on the price next week. In Singapore, motorcycles are very expensive. Yamaha MT10 is selling at SGD$35000++ without insurance.
@@7777Gixer ouch, that's crazy expensive.
Mate did you ever try the horn!!! you can't here it over 50km/hr of course with helmet on!
The hidden cheapo horn is hidden under the fairing and next to the exhaust.Don't tell me it works in the garage or do you ride in the garage?
Next the damping on the suspension is poor back and front had to change both, the compression spring is for 60-65 kg riders!!!
So Suzuki putting a great motor in the bike saved the pennies by not putting first class gear around it!
David, the only time I use the horn is when I accidentally touch the button and it's loud. A Suzuki salesman told me Japanese bikes are set up for small riders, I weigh 68kg so I have no reason to play with the suspension.
Have you adjusted the suspension, and if so is it any better ? Great channel and greeting from South Australia
Hi, greetings from Queensland. No, I have not adjusted the suspension, I find the settings ok for around town, its only at highway speeds on bumpy roads that I don't like. I find the bike comfortable on well maintained roads.
@@cabralad Exactly see my post above
Hi Steve, how is the suspension on bumpy roads? Cheers.
Hi, I just had the front fork seals replaced which has made the suspension a bit stiff and hard over bumps but handles better in the bends. I am not a fan of Japanese designed suspension & wish Suzuki would up speck this bike.
@@cabralad thanks Steve, the roads are pretty bumpy here in nz, I guess every bike has it's pros and cons, my Triumph tiger 1050 soaks up the bumps really well, I would love a gsx-s1000 and will try and get a test ride on one to compare comfort levels. Cheers.
Hi Steve, any update on the bike? Any issue so far?
Thanks
Sorry for the late reply, no issues except during the run in period but mantainance costs are high, so far I have replaced both tyres, chain & sprocket, brake fluid, spark plugs, oil + the service fee
@@cabralad How much did you pay? How many K's?
@@gegomezc 12,000 km service cost me $1,150 & 1,000 km service was $250.
@@cabralad thank you for your reply
@@cabralad you shouldn't have to change chain and sprockets that soon if you look after them you should be looking at 35k easy
stupidly fast bike but still pactical and comfortable. If only the front wasn't so hideous to look at.
I find it a good daily ride & still capable of light touring & fun in the twisties.
I'm struggling with the looks as well. Here in the US, they just dropped $1000 off the previous $1750 rebate. If I can find a 2019, it still has that rebate. I'm seriously ready to buy a used low mileage FZ-10, this, or a Z900RS Cafe/Z900 regular. I would like some wind protection, but cruise control is seriously helpful. This bike gets considerably better MPG's than the FZ-10 though.
@@Stclairm1 can you wait a few weeks, new s1000 coming up, Suzuki could add cruise on next update.
@@cabralad I am trying to stay under $10k USD, so that bike will definitely be over that. I can get a new 2020 Aprilia Tuono for 0% for 60 months, which would make it a cheaper payment than a new MT10 or the new GSXS when it comes out.
The key lol... well don’t drop it then !!
Yeh, clumsy me but it's a serious problem if the key falls into the 'key trap' , 'pocket of doom' , 😒
I had that happen with my KLR. It was just the glove disconnect you feel when you pick the key and it went right down the fairing pocket. I can relate so don't worry about those who can't, LOL!!
@@rgsauls01 Thanks, lucky for me it was only a 20 minute walk home to get the spare.
@@cabralad indeed you were lucky. I was at a shop and partly distracted by a KLR admirer. It took a while to get it out but thanks to my kawasaki keyring I pulled it out with my nails😁
