Hi Mark, there are 2 different types of filter housing for this engine. The one you have with the screw on filter, the second type has a seperate primer bulb fitted in the frame of the filter housing. You may wish to pull the filter in your tank under the back seat and clean that also. Because of the up to 7% of biofuel in all diesel sold at the pump these days, I would recommend you change the fuel filter every 8-10 thousand miles. Also the primer housing you have is notorious for letting ait by as the seal on the plunger itself breaks down over time and allows air in whilst in the up position. Also you may wanna check none of your rubber fuel lines arent breaking down internally. If you havent already done so, check your rear suspension turrets for corrosion, you'll need to strip out the entire plastics in the boot area to find out if they are ok or not, these xtrails up to 06 plate are notorious for it.
@@CoatsandGaiters My advice to you would be to run the car for 2 or 3 tankfulls of fuel and change the filter again, thereby hopefully leaving you with a cleaner system
I've been researching about this car, thinking about getting one, seems a nice 4WD with great fuel economy, but I keep finding contradictory reviews on webpages. Would you say it's a reliable car?. How do you know if it's DCi when looking at one?. Thanks!.
I've not had it long enough to give an honest opinion as to its reliability and all I can find regarding the DCi vs Di is: In June 2003 Nissan gave the car an interior and exterior facelift, while also upgrading the 2.2-litre turbodiesels with a variable turbocharger (2.2 dci rather than the earlier 2.2 Di), producing 136 PS (100 kW; 134 hp) instead of the original 114 PS (84 kW; 112 hp). The external differences were slight, although the grille and the bumpers were redesigned and the Nissan logo was updated to the latest design.
i have a 2005 2.2dci, with 146000 miles on it, had it 2 years and its been amazing, I use it for fishing trips towing a large boat with ease and its never missed a beat. Its amazing on fuel for a large vehicle as well . A couple of friends have same car and they swear by them. look for a good one that's been well maintained and you will be fine
@@stephenslater4313 Haven't found "the one" yet, CDi's are a bit rare here. But I have tested a few already and it's hard to believe that this powerful, good sized, capable 4WD car has such an insane fuel efficiency, great value for the price. Thanks for the reply!

another great vid but please tell me why after getting that far, why didnt you change the air filter too? you washed it with TLC, changed oil and filter now diesel filter so why not air filter? go one......im intrigued, it cant be to save a few £'s . And get yourself a catch can, they work!
If you suspect you have diesel bug in your tank, there are several different liquid solutions you can buy and add to the tank to sort this problem. If you are using the car regularly then it shouldnt be an issue. Tend to find it more with boats where the fuel is sat in the tanks for a lot longer.
hi Great video by the way. I have a hand priming bulb fitted to the car .(The Car started first time ,but after running for 20-30 Seconds it cut out. It was the bulb hand pump split ..There are many different (Shrader} sizes(these are the ends that attach to the rubber pipe. If any one need to know the size is 12 mm. with "O" size Jubilee clips' (
Thank you for the information Tony that should help others. Think the bulb types are still more reliable than the plunger type I had on this truck and at least they would be easier to replace.
Its at the front left of the engine near the water pump. It looks to be bolted in a housing to the engine. Possibly 3 screws holding the housing together.
Hi I recently purchased one of these vehicles. As the author starts the car and reverses it out of the garage. The sqeeking noise from the engine, I have exactly the same sound. Its super annoying. Anyone any idea what causes it? I was thinking it maybe some pulley? Cheers
Your whole tank will be full of that gunk..all your doing is your going to block ur filter again..u need to at least drain all the old diesel out and replace with new..ur also running this gunk through ur hp pump and injectors u will destroy them..new hp pump and injectors will be about 1800 pounds..

Got exact same car, same filter assembly, yet I've got electric wires going straight into the filter and many more pipes running into and along side it. Impossible to get off. Hate this car. Doesn't even have its throttle body where its supposed to be.
The wires might be for a water sensor. Funny how some people love a car and others hate them. I really liked driving the Xtrail, though some parts were crazy high for some items. Diesel engine good though can suffer diesel runaway. Not sure they have a throttle body as they are diesel unless yours is petrol?

Been looking at few videos on the T30 fuel filter change lately, this one is by far the best explained and most helpful.
Thank you for that and pleased that it should help you.

Thank you so much for helping us maintain these T30 great machines.
Thank you for saying so.
I did change IT without removing anything. Unscrew the filter and thats IT
What a fantastic video. Great sense of humour also. 😂.
I'm currently having similar issues.
🤞 I can replicate this myself 😬

I think if you search Workshop Repair Manual For Nissan X-Trail T30 on eBay its available for only £2.99. Hope this helps
