- This first scene from FALLOUT that finds Lucy (Ella Purnell) at odds with The Ghoul (Walton Goggins), a little out of her depth attempting to address a Wasteland conflict using Vault Dweller tactics. As her efforts to de-escalate the situation fail and tensions arise, Lucy finds additional support from a member of the Brotherhood of Steel. All episodes of FALLOUT arrive April 11th on Prime Video.

Probably because that's that Vault-Tec education typically doled out to most vault dwellers. Kind of like how every resident at some point has to take the G.O.A.T. The education they receive works in the confines of their sheltered vault dweller life and overseer-led society, but many dwellers learn the hard way the wasteland has a different set of rules and none of them are fair.

@@TailAbNormal weird thing is how visually they evoke different characters from their counterparts: the ghoul is more like tinman in being a hardened warrior with a soft interior, the brotherhood of steel are cowardly lions: gentle little boys forced to toughen up, and the scientist Wilzig is scarecrow in being very smart but insecure.
And if the Rumors of Mr. House being in the show are true, we'll even have a Wizard!

I love that he’s struggling to keep that power armor from flipping over as he flies 6 yards straight forward.
I like that Lucy's dialouge sounds more stilted, since 1: She’s probably never been in a situation like this and is struggling to maintain her cool, and 2: Is likely reciting a script Vault Dwellers were given to descalate conflict within the Vaults. Like those old posters from school telling you what to do if you encountered a bully. Just hilariously out of touch with the nature of human conflict.

The most promising thing about this to me is that it is not an adaptation, it's an original story set within the game's universe.

The main character's actress is a perfect cast. It's literally a lore accarute vault dweller. They would deffinetly act like this outside the vault.

2 minutes doesn’t tell the whole story, for sure, we can wait and see, but that whole script she recites about de-escalation shit sounds right out of the test you take at the beginning of fallout 3

She experienced the world EXACTLY the way i did when i was 15 and played fallout 3 for the first time (i was so innocent back then that i didnt even understand what drugs were! "What do they taste good or something?!"). So i find lucy's arc to hit pretty close to home!

Honestly, she sounds like how I imagine a shut in discord mod to sound like if they tried to stop a mugging, which is basically what was going on in this scene. Bravo for making awkward dialogue be awkward for a reason
I like that she's not a Mary Sue i.e. perfect at everything, doesn't get maimed/defeated, is loved by everyone, etc. Lucy goes through hell and comes out a better character because of it. This show has flaws but it felt like something that would've came out in 08. Just pure fun. Amazon do more stuff like this.
I read several comments about Lucy’s dialogue. Of course, she supposed to sound naïve. She’s a vault dweller, who spent her entire life in an orderly society where things like conflict resolution were taught from a textbook.
The point isn't she's naive. The point is she spouts a childish monologue to present yourself as assertive like a 10 year old.
@@ryokodeivisu if you study the scene closely. You can see that both the woman on the ground and the ghoul with a gun react to her as if she is a child. Clearly that is how her character is supposed to be at the beginning of the series, but as her character develops, she will lose the naivety, and become as tough as anybody else in the wasteland.

Is it just me or some things look a bit cheap? The costumes, the lighting, set design? In the trailer as well, at times you can clearly see how they just painted foamboard for armor, metal doors of the vault etc. Kinda like a lowbudget cosplay fan film feel.

When Amazon said they were doing Fallout I was like "meh", then I saw it had Walton Goggins so I was like "tell me more", then I saw the pictures and I went "Oh I'm game" and now I see the trailer and I want these 10 episodes injected straight into my eyes. That's how good he is.

it’s the precise dynamic i always imagined for a fallout show/movie, down to the genders and outfits (of course the paladin has to have a red jumpsuit under the armor, it provides contrast!!)

Satire. The word you're looking for is satire. Fallout was never a parody of anything. Even then, only elements of Fallout are satirical. It's not that it's a goofy cartoon, it's that people occasionally act stupidly, because everyone was already dumb pre-apocalypse. It doesn't mean that everything looks like it was spraypainted on or made out of plastic. If anything the originals almost had a claymation style to them.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's crazy because the visuals are amazing and honestly the writing isn't even that bad. I think this largely comes from the background music they have it feels very similar to marvel.

The power armor did look a bit lame, but Goggins and Purnell looked great, and the set looked really good! I’m hoping the power armor looks better in other shots.

Ella Purnell is doing a perfect job of playing the Naive Vault Dweller who has basically lived in an Episode of "Leave it to Beaver" her entire life.
Folks don't seem to notice that the power armour wasn't flying, just slowing its fall. Likely an adaptation of the "immune to fall damage" thing power armour gives you in-game.

The writing isn't very sharp, but was anyone expecting different? This show is clearly leaning more into Fallout 4's dialogue/aesthetic rather than Fallout 1-3. But I like that the female lead is shown to be out of her element and is the butt of the joke here. Not some Galadriel archetype that defeats all adversity at a whim and can't be made to look foolish.

The Ghoul isn't afraid of anyone. BoS in power armor confronting him and he's like, yeah whatever. If I was to psychoanalyze him, he probably has a death wish from what he's endured over the past 200 years. Until someone finally takes him out, he's going to keep living his no f**ks given life. That's what I get from the info they have provided us thus far. I'm more interested in getting to know him at the moment than Lucy. Plus he's pre-war and I love the history of pre-war Fallout
From the trailers it looks like he was an actor in Hollywood. A cowboy actor to be precise lol. But like you said, I'm curious to see how he has handled being alive for over 200 years in the Los Angeles wasteland. Lot of the non feral ghouls I've encountered in the games tend to change identities over time to keep from getting depressed. But they do have very good memories and often talk about life before the war.
I'm loving the look and feel from the scene! Hope we are in for a treat!
