Fully agree on Jamboard as a great way for students to collaborate across the roomers and zoomers 😀 It's nice that the same templates from remote could be used for hybrid and then in-person 🙌🏼
I have a dry erase mat that is binder clipped (what ever the o rings are called) to a sheet protector so that my kids can have 4 different organizers that they regularly use. I include fraction bars, a place value chart, a long division organizer (when they first start to learn long division), grid paper and a vertical place value chart for lining up numbers when completing computations.
Something that has helped me in the classroom with hearing each other is I put the online students through the classroom speakers so when they talk, it’s through the whole classroom, and when in person talk, I have a microphone that I give to them, I do have to wipe it down after each use but it’s so hard to hear in person kids when they talk with their masks on too.
This is so on time!! The day we found out we would possibly going hybrid for our last first day of school of the year... this popped on my timeline. Gave me more peace!!
I have taught in every possible scenario this year. I find asynchronous to be the worst and the most work. I much prefer the live-streaming. In a week my kiddos come back full time and I can't wait! Great video as always!
Just wanted to co-sign on the Name Wheel (I use it for every subject!) and those black masks. I got a box for $6.99 on Amazon. If you want a comparable cloth mask I recommend Land's End. They are comfortable enough to double mask as well. As for the the cart, it comes with a topper that often goes on sale at Michael's. I would recommend adding velcro or something sticky on the bottom to keep the laptop from toppling over. I have littles and they love to bounce around.
These tips are game chaning! THANK YOU! I am currently teaching FULL in-person, hybrid, and online-only all at the SAME TIME (I teaching 7th and 8th grade ESL middle school) It's hard! I appreciate your honesty ❤️ Teachers are inspirational troopers 🌟
Super tips! We are also teaching concurrently, and it has been a learning experience. I think it is a lesson in flexibility, creativity, and positivity. I will be working on facilitating more collaboration between my “roomies” and “zoomies.” I also really agree about needing a water bottle with a straw! Thanks so much!
Thankfully, our schools provided Owl cameras, so both my virtual and in-class kids can hear and see each other. I also show my virtual kids on my smartboard. I love using Flocabulary for my lessons and the kids love it too. I use a lot of Kahoot and Quizziz games too. I started teaching hybrid last October and it's definitely been challenging but I feel more comfortable now.
My struggle is...we teach like you, in person and virtual students simultaneously, but...I have to teach math to three different groups and we teachers are the ones who change classes! I have to use a cart for this. The hardest part is getting my new class on the desk top computer/smart board and switching groups. I use a laptop to keep the Zoom connection. It has gotten better with practice but still time consuming. It takes to reconfigure the cameras, sound, bringing up websites, my Canvas module, and the document camera. It literally is like a juggling act! And don´t get me started with the small groups expectation my district has!
We have been live stream teaching since day one and it has been pure hell. I truly hope next year we don't have to mess with this. I would 100% rather have all in person or 100% virtual students. This split is difficult and im glad you've been able to adjust well to it.
Thank you so much for all or your great tips and tricks!!! I get to meet my students in person tomorrow!! Hybrid but thankful I don't have to teach both in person and online at the same time.
I ordered the wireless mouse and the clicker but I’m thinking of using them until next school year since our district bought us new desktops and laptops! Thank you for all the tips. By the way, I also started using the wheel of names with one of my classes( I have 6 classes)
Thank you for sharing! This came just in time; we start teaching hybrid/concurrent Tuesday after being 100% virtual for over a year and I’m so nervous! I gotta get my positive pants ready...
I am teaching in person, but these tips are very helpful. I have used Nearpod, but I am not real familiar. It sounds great! I will definitely look more into it.
This video is soooo helpful! I teach in Southern California, and we’ll be starting hybrid concurrently 4 days a week in my district in mid-April. I’m so anxious! 😱🤯😢 But I love the tip to plan for digital lessons first, then adapt. You’re right: we should NOT be planning for two separate lessons! (Unless my district wants to give me double the prep time with pay, amiright? 😅) I needed to hear that piece of advice and encouragement. I definitely plan to keep it simple as much as possible until we get to a well-deserved summer break in June! 😎🌻⛱ Thank you for your videos: they have been a lifesaver! 👏
Hybrid(hyflex/concurrent teaching) is insane. You have got really good tips. Name your cart Googly in honor of the googly eyes! You have learned being you is the smartest option! I’m learning that everyday about myself! Making the lesson digital first is one easy and two it can easily be adjusted without making major changes! One tip I’m thinking is potentially filling you cart with incentives for in person learners so you aren’t going back and forth from your desk! The virtual learners can leave their screens to get the same incentive like a piece of candy (something small and then building the reward as it goes because these kids have been through the wringer)
We start hybrid on April 12th, and this will be so helpful! I’ve been trying to decide if I wanted to put the students Zoom screens on my smartboard or laptop, but the cart will make having them on my laptop work so well!
Can you do both? At my school some teachers circulate with their laptops on carts but also share their screen to the smartboard so the virtual kids are displayed up there
Question! My laptop has to be plugged into the smart board in order to project. Does anyone know how to connect without being plugged in? I’d love to take my students around the room!
If you youse zoom and have a tablet go to share go to white board join the same meeting with the computer that goes to you're perjecter than write on the tablet and both groups can see it
My district has something called clear touch boards and audio enhancement teacher microphones both of which connect to the over head speaker and I just use classdojo randomizer
This would work so much better if we could get the engagement rate up! So many at home students turn off the camera (we can´t make them have the camera on) and tune us out. No matter how many times I address this, it hasn´t gotten any better.
It's not just you. Many districts all over the place are having the exact same challenge. Except for my mother in law's school which is, apparently, perfect at hybrid learning 🙄 Lol
Same here in FL. Engagement for sure has been a struggle. I would suggest putting even more effort into building that sense of community amongst the online students with kids in the classroom. Allow them time to interact and connect with the in-person kids just for fun and to chat. Any downtime we have, I allow them to play on math sites where the kids can compete and message one another. You'd be surprised how isolated some of the online students feel :(
We have one teacher for students who are fully remote. The in-person students were on a rotating schedule. One teacher taught them when they were in the classroom and a separate teacher taught them when they were not in school.
+Pocketful of Primary Michelle , It's good to be the teacher who knows what they are trying to do and has all of their bases covered . Tip: Make sure that the school and Your " Googlers " all have and keep a good internet connection . Technology sometimes has a mind of its' own in its' own right . Hang in there . The end is near . - Dwight
Not relate to hybrid learning... But throwing this out there and looking for advice... anyone ever dealt with a student with O.D.D. I teach pre-k and I have never handled behaviors this severe before. Any advice to help out my O.D.D student be successful throughout the day would be much appreciated.
It's funny but I haven't struggled with hybrid teaching. I guess its because I teach graphic design classes so every student is supposed to be on a computer whether they are at home or just a few feet away. I also teach high school, so I can hold those students accountable if they never log in to our meeting platform or follow along to the lessons.
I'm not a teacher. I live in a bigish city in Ontario, Canada. The schools broads in my city from the start of the school year for all students JK to grade 8 either fully online or fully in-person no hybrid, when we go in to lockdowns/stay at home orders all schools go online. Highschool is a way different story.
Does anyone know if Easel by TpT allows you to download the fillable pdf as well? Or anyone know if a program where you can upload a pdf, make it fillable, and download the fillable version?
I use a wheel of names for class participation with my 6th graders and they LOVE it lol. They literally cheer sometimes when it lands on a name and does the cheer sound effect and confetti 😂
Fully agree on Jamboard as a great way for students to collaborate across the roomers and zoomers 😀 It's nice that the same templates from remote could be used for hybrid and then in-person 🙌🏼
I teach ESL and Jamboard is a great tool.
I think this is the first video when I hear you say Michelle Emmerson instead of Ferré. I'm so happy for you and Billy! I wish you all the best.

This is making my head spin! We are supposed to go back in May to hybrid teaching. I’m retiring in June!!
We started hybrid concurrently at the beginning of the school year. We went all in face to face at the end of October.
Wooooow. I have been doing Hybrid concurrently since October 4. I didn’t know there were teachers who were fully face to face. God bless you!
@@terrygodgirl4430 yes! First grade!

I just recently got a Logitech camera with speaker so we can hear the online students. It’s been heaven sent.
Thank you!! We go to hybrid in a couple of weeks, and my head is spinning. I teach secondary piano & choir. Your videos are SO helpful and clear!!
Thank you, Michelle, for these practical and important tips to make hybrid teaching a little less stressful for all!!
I had to teach concurrently when 18 of my students got quarantined. I called them my quaranteenies.
🤣😂😅👍🏽🥰😍
Gah- I’m so thankful we didn’t have to teach synchronously 😩😩 bless you. Here’s to ~almost~ the end of the year 😂❤️
I have taught in every possible scenario this year. I find asynchronous to be the worst and the most work. I much prefer the live-streaming. In a week my kiddos come back full time and I can't wait! Great video as always!
I'm with you, I did asynchronous for 3 months last year and it was terrible. We do hybrid now and I'm in the building, I like it so much better
Do us a video on how to teach to virtual and in person students. I’m sure I’m not the only one that will benefit from it. 🙏🏻

Thank you Michelle, as usual your videos are so helpful.
Thank you for all these amazing tips !!!
I really love your videos! I have learned so much from them and your tips and ideas have made my teaching much more easier. Thank you so much!
Awesome tips Michelle... I really appreciate everything you do... Thank you very much!

Those expectations are unrealistic. Do what makes you comfortable and works for your students!

Hybrid learning & virtual learning can be a STRUGGLE since it’s at the SAME time! So, these tips will surely save my life! 👍🏾

@@DarthFurie I could do both, but I use Google slides to teach so I need to display those somewhere too.
Aww I love Roomers and Googlers.
You always have such wonderful tips! Thank you for shareing.
Old Navy masks work the best for me!
You are amazing. Thank you for your insights.
Thank you for such wonderful tips. You are an amazing educator!!
How do you do breakout rooms with hybrid kids matched to in-person if the in-person kids aren’t in the Google Meet as mentioned in the video?
Tremendously helpful. TY so much.
I am an in school learning and I go to a post secondary program that helps you learn how to get a job and it’s like volunteer work
I love your desk! If you don’t mind sharing, where would i be able to purchase one for myself?
my teacher class people in school roomies and the ones at home are homies
💀 That's clever
So, the Roomers are bringing their lap tops too?

Great ideas

Our district’s biggest struggle has been to get students to engage. The failure rate this year has been unbelievable.

My “school kids” are my Skittles and my virtual students on their Chromebooks are my Chromies!
I love your videos
Oh the name thing is cool. I have heard the zoomies and roomies 1 lol
We have one teacher for students who are fully remote. The in-person students were on a rotating schedule. One teacher taught them when they were in the classroom and a separate teacher taught them when they were not in school.
Sorry but it’s really distracting me, where did you get your necklace at? It’s so pretty and shiny 😍

Does your school kids change daily?
I’ll be teaching just like you starting this week. 🙏😩🤪🥺🤯😀
Happy Easter😘🐥🐇🌺🌹🌼🍹🍫🍭🍬🍪💒
I choose students randomly on the Google Classroom student selector on the mobile app
I start hybrid with Pre-K next week and I’m panicked.
I call then my roomies (or classroomies) or my homies
Super as usual
Can you move to where I live in Maryland. I want you as my teacher 😂
Sounds like you’ve conquered hybrid teaching. I wouldn’t have been able to figure this out. Luckily, my zoom class is separate from my f2f class.
My 8th graders named our virtual students "homies". :)
1st year teaching and I am doing this everyday!
I use ClassDojo to call students randomly. Also, I can give them points if they participated.
I use a wheel of names for class participation with my 6th graders and they LOVE it lol. They literally cheer sometimes when it lands on a name and does the cheer sound effect and confetti 😂
Me too! My middle schoolers also LOVE it!
cool. i am energized. still semi lost.. though good.
Im 12b but im watching all her videos. Ask me why..idk. tell me why idc........ i love playing school though!!!! Love ur videos
I call my groups: my roomies and my zoomies.
My teacher calls the students in class roomies and calls the students at home on zoom zoomies
I’m in person.
A Bluetooth speaker paired with the laptop can do the trick.
My teacher has a cart and we call her shawty
LOL Google employees are Googlers and new Googlers are called Nooglers
