How people can blindly criticize the Florida bill without actually knowing what's in it baffles me. All the bill does is not allow K-3 teachers to have conversations with students in regard to sex and gender identity . Kids at that age have no clue about any of that. And by the way the bill also does not allow the conversations about straight sex either. K-3 is not the appropriate time to be having these types of conversations with children.

The answer to these questions will be found in science. There are currently several studies that have been and are being conducted that look at physiological advantages that exist for trans athletes vs their cis counterparts. Until we have comprehensive, systematic answers we are going to have to try to muddle through as best we can on a case-by-case, sport-by-sport, athlete-by-athlete basis. Education and honest sincere debate is the way forward.

As someone with a large amount of gay friends throughout school and a teacher as well I have different feelings on this. I really hate the fact that the “don’t say gay” bills are labeled this despite what they actually entail. I teach about social justice a great deal inside of my history class obviously, but all of these extreme action now movements are just deepening divisions and halting progress by making both sides dog their feet in. Societies change at a gradual pace with the dying off the older generations. We’re creating a situation where every three years or so we have a “new generation” do to how quickly we want to amend definitions on what is and isn’t socially acceptable.
This word salad needs more dressing. And editing. Claiming "I have gay friends" as a shield for bigotry is the same as using "I have black friends" to launder racism. Further, no one cares what your feelings are on issues that don't effect you directly. I would suggest staying on the side of equality and justice, giving support to those in communities harmed by discriminatory laws and policies, and keeping your opinions to yourself. Concrete example: whatever a male's feelings on abortion are, they are irrelevant. Abortion and a woman's reproductive health are between her and her doctor. But men, especially straight men, just can't help but stick their noses into things that have nothing to do with them.

If you read the bill properly, it is NOT allowed to discuss ANY gender identity. That includes Cis genders... He and She has been banned as well as defining terms like mother, brother, sister, father amongst many more. It also means that all bathrooms has been labeled as a gendered bathroom.

The answer to these questions will be found in science. There are currently several studies that have been and are being conducted that look at physiological advantages that exist for trans athletes vs their cis counterparts. Until we have comprehensive, systematic answers we are going to have to try to muddle through as best we can on a case-by-case, sport-by-sport, athlete-by-athlete basis. Education and honest sincere debate is the way forward.

As someone with a large amount of gay friends throughout school and a teacher as well I have different feelings on this.
I really hate the fact that the “don’t say gay” bills are labeled this despite what they actually entail. I teach about social justice a great deal inside of my history class obviously, but all of these extreme action now movements are just deepening divisions and halting progress by making both sides dog their feet in.
Societies change at a gradual pace with the dying off the older generations. We’re creating a situation where every three years or so we have a “new generation” do to how quickly we want to amend definitions on what is and isn’t socially acceptable.
This word salad needs more dressing. And editing.
Claiming "I have gay friends" as a shield for bigotry is the same as using "I have black friends" to launder racism.
Further, no one cares what your feelings are on issues that don't effect you directly. I would suggest staying on the side of equality and justice, giving support to those in communities harmed by discriminatory laws and policies, and keeping your opinions to yourself. Concrete example: whatever a male's feelings on abortion are, they are irrelevant. Abortion and a woman's reproductive health are between her and her doctor. But men, especially straight men, just can't help but stick their noses into things that have nothing to do with them.
