If you mean for not UIC but other major or departments for Yonsei University, I might try but unfortunately I do not have enough experience nor knowledge to cover everything for other majors :( But you can always contact me from my social media and I will try my best to help you out as much as I can!
      For international students, we have several options for workings:
      1. RA/TA: These are on-campus jobs you can take, they are announced at the end of the semesters ( sometimes for TA, you need to email the professor directly) and you can apply for them! RA job pays for your dormitory fee as well so it is quite good!
      2. You can find part-time jobs outside the campus however you need to have less than a certain amount of hours to work, as well as TOPIK score for most jobs! You also need to get permission from the school as well the immigration office so it may get tricky...
      So basically, yes you are allowed however you need to be careful with off-campus jobs, for on-campus it is rather easier!

    Hello there. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Yonsei. I am actually looking forward to applying for a full scholarship since with my current financial state right now, it’ll be impossible for me to enroll there with my own money. It’s always been my dream to study abroad in Korea and I really want to get into UIC. I would like to ask, just how difficult is it to be accepted into UIC and what are the acceptance rates? If you know anything about that. Also, other than maintaining a good grade are there any other criteria’s that you have to meet in order to be given a decent scholarship? UIC will be enrolling new students in about mid August, so I’m really cutting it close here but I only found your video just now.

    • @pelin.312
      @pelin.312  Год назад

      Hello~ First of all, im not sure about the acceptance rates but mostly people who have been admitted have around a minimum of 90 average on their high school transcripts so maybe it could be a reference ~ of course I think grades aren't the only thing they look for! For scholarships, either you get perfect grades to receive academic scholarship, or you show that you need financial support from school to receive need based scholarship! I think you might be able to get the second one for sure if you get in!

    Hi Lin,
    I came across your video a few weeks back and had already left a comment on it, I'm not sure if you can still remember me. Very recently I came across a huge mishap during my application process for UIC, and would like to use this space to share my story.
    Yesterday I had my rights to enroll into UIC taken from me. Yes, you read that right. Let me clarify-I was planning to apply for UIC since the start of 2023 and has been making all the preparations needed since April of this year. As we all know UIC is very thorough when it comes to their paperwork, so it would have taken me a full year to gather all the paperwork needed and make the full preparations. I am a GED graduate applying for UIC, so my paperwork would be more complicated than the average applicant's. It took everything in me-mentally, physically and financially-to make all of the preparations, and I was determined that I would be able to get into UIC.
    Yesterday, I very abruptly found out through the UIC website, that they are no longer accepting GED applicants. I think "shocked" is an understatement-my whole world fell apart when I found out. Just starring at my computer screen feeling ever so confused about what had gone wrong. All the preparations I made in the past 5-6 months were all for nothing. I don't know if I should feel sad, upset, disappointed, or angry. Everything felt like a fever dream, and I just feel numb. It's always been my dream to go study abroad, and I just completely fell in love with Seoul. I've spent roughly 3 million won on preparations alone. I had to go get a new passport published, my GED certificate apostilled, paid for my SAT and IELTS exam-I had to travel out of state for all of those things and each one of them costed a lot of money.
    I can't believe I spent so much time putting in work and making preparations just to get my rights to apply taken from me at the very last minute. I don't know why UIC decided to change their application criteria right during admission season. If they were going to enforce the no-GED rule why can't they have announced it 1-2 years ahead, so future applicants would know and not have to waste their time and hard earned money trying to apply. I'm sure I'm not the only GED applicant out there trying to apply for UIC. My heart goes out to all of them, and I would never wish this on anyone. My life long dream, a year worth of preparations-all destroyed within a minute of finding out, that I am no longer qualified to apply to my dream college, let alone even be accepted. I think I just got all my hopes and dreams sucked out of me. I haven't felt the same since yesterday and have been crying every now and then for the past 48 hours. I'm sure I will eventually recover but I don't think I'll ever be the same.
    I hope I can use this as a life lesson that we can work or pray as hard as we want, and nothing would always 100℅ go our way. I don't know what went wrong, but I feel very let down by the UIC institute and hope they can improve their communication with international students more in the future.
    If you read it this far, thank you so much.

      Hello,
      I am so sorry to hear what you have been through. It is really unfortunate how Yonsei treats its international students like nothing quite often. I am very disappointed but not surprised to hear your story. Many of us had so many complications and issues with the school, their way of announcing things at the last minute and changing their rules frequently is very very disappointing. I am actually very sorry and frustrated in behalf of you to hear what you have been through. It must feel like a waste of time and effort as well as money... I understand that very well. I hope you get through this and heal, I am so angry how they make someone like you who had their dreams regarding the school feel this way... my heart goes out to you, as well as every other who had the same experience. Feel free to reach out to me if you ever need to talk, I am a good listener and ready to curse the school by all means 🙄

      @@pelin.312 Yes, I have heard plenty of international students complain about Yonsei and it’s lack of communication. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is facing complications with the university. I did send an email to the UIC administration committee, confronting them about their sudden change of criteria and how it’s unfair to a lot of applicants, but unfortunately they said that they can’t do anything about it since the no-GED rule was enforced by the government and how they have no control over it ( at least I think that’s what they were trying to say ) However, I want Yonsei ( UIC ) to actually step up and makes changes to the way they manage their work, instead of giving a bland apology after another. I have to admit that I am very disappointed by how UIC handled the situation as a whole. I definitely went into the application process expecting more from one of the top 3 universities in South Korea ( SKY ) but instead the treatment I experienced was very unprofessional to say the least. As an international education institution, I hope that UIC and whoever was responsible for enforcing the new criteria does make changes in the future-considering how what they did nearly costed me and other GED applicants their future.
      Not to mention, UIC did not take any accountability for the applicants that they denied last minute-instead only sending a private apology email. I have spent a total of roughly 3 million won on the preparations to get into UIC alone. Getting my GED certification apostilled as requested by UIC, was probably the most expensive process-just for them to end up banning GED applications anyways. I think this was the most frustrating part about my application being denied. My application was 90% complete-I had my GED certificate apostilled, my SAT and IELTS score, I even already have a recommendation letter written. Sadly I was denied my application rights at the very last minute without my knowledge.
      Now me and my family are slowly trying to find more funds to hopefully get me into my backup university which still costs a-lot, since I have spent way too much money trying to get into UIC. I have been trying my best to upkeep a position attitude towards UIC and Yonsei but after what I experienced-I can’t help but feel like a sour taste has been left in my mouth and the damage has already been done.
      Thank you so much Lin for hearing my story. I will try to remain optimistic and work hard to achieve my goals. I haven’t entirely given up on my dreams despite everything that happened, and I’m sure that one day I’ll get to experience Seoul in person 🇰🇷🤍

      @@SoggyMuffin007 I agree that there have been just too many issues with Yonsei's administration office... I can only hope that they improve themselves in the future, not for us but for the upcoming students although I wouldn't count too much on it. I am getting more and more disappointed in them every time I hear these types of stories. Trust me, unfortunately you are not the only one. I hope you figure out something about the university application and get through it. I only hope for the best for you and hope you succeed in achieving your dream! Someday these days will be just a story you tell people while laughing and I can only hope those days comes faster than you expect!
      Good luck with the remaining process and patience to you and your family to get through this!

      Hey!! My time at Yonsei was a rollercoaster I think... I would say the education is pretty OK but the administrative part of the school gets tiring and frustrating sometimes... It is pretty easy to make friends here (mostly foreigners.. Koreans are a bit harder), the classes are mostly alright except for some majors. The environment is tricky because there will be times where it gets hard for students who dont have Korean skills... The school tends to make most things in Korean and sometimes it might get hard for foreigners to get around in the school. But overall I personally had a great time at Yonsei but not because of the school but more thanks to the people I met at the school. I definitely recommend to know some Korean before you come to Korea.

    Hello! Thank you so much for this informative video! I am thinking on applying at UIC Yonsei in 2023. Can you please tell what your feelings overall after a year passed? How many hours a day you spend studying (in classes + h/w + preparing for classes)? You have mentioned in the video people who do not participate in group work, in that case is it possible to address the professor about this issue to kick this person out of the group or id it not acceptable behavior in Korea? Is UIC Yonsei diploma considered reputable in SK and is it possible to wind a job in Korea with it (as a foreigner)? Is it possible to attend Yonsei Language school while studying in UIC, or it will be too hard? I have heard that all freshmen of UIC are living in Songdo, but for the next year they may move to main campus. Can you tell how long is the way from Songdo campus to Sinchon campus by shuttle bus? Are Creative Technology Management students still have classes in Songdo campus on their second year (i really want to have experience in Seoul, and i dont think that i can manage that during studying in other place). You said that you mainly did projects and essays, but was it as hard as it is for Korean students? I mean as i know they have it brutally intense in ‘Korean’ Yonsei, so im looking forward something alike that, but you didnt specify how did you feel or i didnt get it. Did Yonsei change their trait of giving information late? Is it only for foreign students, or for korean students it is relevant too? I am sorry for so many questions and i am sorry if you answered some of them and i forgot. I would be really grateful if you answered me on this matter, but do not feel obliged. Thank you very much again. Have a great day!

    • @pelin.312
      @pelin.312  Год назад +1

      Hello! Sorry it took me a while to reply to this!
      First of all, I think my years at Yonsei was quite nice because I had a good social environment and I think its amazing to be studying in Korea. However, Yonsei itself has a lot of issues; they are not as well prepared with foreigners' problems, not as helpful, always late and problematic. I also think the classes are interesting at times however they lack practical information required for actual jobs. I think the time I spend on studying increased over the years, now I would say I do at least 2 to 3 hours of studying everyday.
      It is definitely possible to mention it to the professor, I have never tried to kick someone out haha but I feel like it could be possible.
      UIC diploma is still under Yonsei so in Korea, it is still valuable! For jobs, I would say it is hard however there are places such as Job Fairs for International Students or so, so it is definitely possible! You just have to work hard on your skills, whichever you want to focus and work on! Your focused major is also important.
      I dont think you are allowed to attend KLI while studying in UIC, they are different admission processes as far as I know. But there are Korean classes in UIC so you could attend those!
      Not all freshmen move to Sinchon, I still am living in Incheon with my free will! Some majors are also based in Songdo! From Songdo to Sinchon, it takes about 1hour 40 minutes by subway and 1 hour 15 minutes by shuttle bus which is free for students!
      CTM major is based in Songdo so there are only a few classes (less than two) in Sinchon and rest are in Songdo! Design majors are mostly in Songdo~ I think it is definitely possible to experience Seoul while studying, a lot of people (me sometimes included) go to Seoul for a weekend just to hangout or so. Many students use their free time to just go to Seoul and have fun!
      Projects and essays are quite manageable to be honest. I think in Korean dramas or news, they are being slighlty exaggerated, i dont think its THAT challenging to do them.
      Yonsei never changes their attitude of giving information late... We just get adjusted to it unfortunately. They have a bad administrative system. It is mostly for foreigners because they dont consider external factors for us, such as buying tickets or moving to Korea, etc. I think its also that weirdly they lack staff that speak English... so, problems are always there for foreign students:(
      No worries at all! It is great to have many questions! You should ask them as much as possible before making a decision to go to a place!
      Thank you too! Have a great day~!!

I also have worked as both an RA and a TA during school which covered my dormitory expenses and some part of my daily expenses.
