This is fantastic. Finally a local promoting our beautiful Western Cape. Also, something to share with friends and family overseas. We are very privileged. I'm glad that I "stumbled" across your RUclips channel. Thank you.
I was at Oudtshoorn in the army in 1974. We explored the area weekend after weekend. This video recalled so many good memories that will stay with me until my death And now I am living in Australia but SA will stay my country.
Hey Johan... You lucky fish you... I was also in the army in '74, short while at Oudshoorn, but the only "exploring" we've been doing weekend after weekend was full kit afkakke in the Swartberg. But yes, I'm fortunate to still stay in RSA, and do travel those areas when I can. Our country is so vast, and so much to see, that it will take a lifetime to do everything in a person's travel bucket list... Must be tough staying in Aus, and still say SA is your country... I moved down from Pretoria to the Western Cape, still calling myself a Blue Bull after 45 years, and getting lip frequently... Hope you still support the Bokke... 🤔🤔🤔🤔
That's the Swartberg Pass ... from both sides. There is no Prince Albert Pass ... but there is a Prince Alfred Pass ... from the R62 Langkloof to either Plett or Knysna (depending if you turn left or right) ... another one of the most beautiful passes in South Africa - nice video by the way.
How wonderful to be able to see that far and remote place, when one does not have the means to actually travel out there. I've heard so much about the place. Thank you so much for taking us on a "couch travel" to also enjoy it. Please do more such travels.
Thanks to share those beautiful views of South Africa. In January 2012 passing by Oudtdhoorn to visit the Cango caves ( so beautiful) the day after we went up to Swartberg Pass, down below the valley was an amazing green.....South Africa is my best holidays spot, it's so diversified; the sea, the desert, the mountains and the people so friendly ....
Me and 2 other friends camped at the exact same spot with our adventure bikes last year Dec. We left the morning at 5:00 and it was already 33c. Its a absolute gem of a place. Its called the Hel for a reason, it gets moer hot in summer.
This video- We camped in the same spot last night. What an epic road in and out… probably the most exhilarating road I have ever driven. Thanks for sharing - now I don’t need to share my pics, I can just show this. A must for all!
I just love to watch the video's of you and your wife's travels and the views of the country. It is sure hard to watch you drive on the wrong side of the road.
Thanks for your channel - just last evening my son, who left SA as a five year old, was asking about the Western Cape and the Karoo... the chat was brought on by listening to a few Piet Botha/ Jackhammer songs... "Laat Die Wiele Rol" and That's How We Roll... I've shared the link with him and other family members who left with us from PE airport, 23 years ago! I see you're from PE so I'll be perving on all your content, that's for sure! Keep up the great work - and, happy belated birthday! I hope you did something great for this year's edition too!!
Matt where ever you are from, you did not grew up in the Karoo. Imagine: 4X4, combat vehicle tyres, letting down the tyre pressure. Sorry that I laughed at you but we've been over the Swartbergpas in a 1961 Zephyr-6: 3 gears forward and reverse. Easy goings. What would you have done if a car came from the opposite side? No, I won't tell you. Educate yourself. The nicest fruit you can but only dream of came from The Hell, grapes. Pears and the best ever peaches: Rlberta's. There were still people living there when we were there. Well thank you for having taken me back to my childhood years. It was good to tears to see it again.
Did a 10 day Army leadership course out of the Academy in Saldanha back in the early 70's. Snow on the mountains, heat stroke in the Hel for the unfit with poor water management skills. We did it on foot from Zoar, Seweweeks, down into the valley (plenty rapelling) across the snow cold Gamka, up and along the mountains. Final day was a welcome event! Loved it. The inhabitants at the rough end of the valley still roped their donkeys and carts up the mountains to go shopping! Amazing.
Cool video. You do a lovely job of keeping our interest. Some glorious shots and wonderful scenery you’ve captured. Thanks for this .. at my age I’ll give Die Hel a miss.. your movie says it all.💫🌞
Loving your videos, I’m an Eastern Cape boy living in Perth Australia. Watching your video, my Ozzie daughter walks in and asks who I’m talking. Apparently Matt you sound exactly like I do 🤣🤣
Amazing video - shows you how handy drones can be - the scenery is absolutely beautiful. I have never seen anything like this - all other countries - eat your hearts out. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. This is a 10/10 video - you need to get a reward for it. God bless. [ ZA-KZN]
Die hell and swartberg are one of my favourite places in South Africa. I started my garden route tour from prince albert and the trip was too good! Nice video! A subscription from me💪
I very much enjoy your travels and the 4x4 Hi-Lux build, first saw you on 22 Plinkster. you have a lovely country and you really enjoy it! I found your Biltong "cake" very interesting , I have never seen anything like its here I the USA. I did find a company here that claims to make Biltong with South African method and spices, and will be ordering some to try. Please keep up you great videos ,and travels, thanks and have a great day.
I've never heard of biltong cake and I live in SA. A cake is synonymous with something sweet, I wouldn't want to associate dried meat and cake. Love biltong though
My favourite drive - I do it every year. STUNNING VIDEO - thank you! it's the first video I have seen that does some sort of justice to this incredible place.
I've been over most of the roads you've covered, but I did not do the bit down to the hell. My car would not have been abled to do the trip. Thank for this video, now I down's have to do it & it brings back good memories.
Great video, thank you. The drone footage gave a lot more perspective. Which was very helpful. I am doing this trip at the end of August with a bunch of mates on motorcycles.
Just discovered you channel. I must say it's a great service you're doing. You're really showing or opening up the country, particularly it's natural beauty in perhaps the most ideal way. Thank you for that. It's indeed appreciated as so many have testified.
Great trip this - SwartBerg Pass has to be one of my favourite off-road routes in ZA - have cycled up and over a few times and it’s always such an adventure.
Another great video of a beautiful area. I did this on my motorcycle not too long ago. I, as a relative newcomer to off-road riding, found it very tough. But very beautiful. I see Matt also likes his tomato sauce. Good man, Matt!
This video is so good son ! This region of the klien karoo I know well having spent many a school holiday in the 70s & 80s on a working fram at Calitzdorp. But I never got to do the Swartberg and Die Hell .So its still on the bucket list. Hopefully 2023. Thank you and yours all the best from Tom Brennan.
We did Die Hel in 2005 on motorcycles, with our wives as pillions, not much has changed over the years still looks familiar, thanks for the great video, awesome.
Matt and Nicole, your channel is just awesome to watch, well done!!! Love your travels, your representation of areas you vist, the detailed surrounding info, drone footage, etc, etc. Personally I think the quality of your videos improve each time, just stunning 😉👌🏻 Keep it up, and yes, I’m convinced you had a fab birthday 😁👏🏻👏🏻
We did part of that trip in January 2022. Totally unplanned and on the sour of the moment as we were heading home to Durban from Mossel Bay as I decided to show my wife Oudshoorn, the Swartberg Pass and Prince Albert. I had done this trip some decades arealier and wanted her to experience the raw beauty of the area. Needless to say our trip home to Durban, instead of taking from Monday midday to Wednesday morning (earliest eta) resulted in a home arrival of 10pm the next Sunday night. Epic trip
Thank you Matt for sharing your beautiful Adventures with you two, every single episode, just love the bilton cake, where can we get it in the UK. HAHAHA. Have fun and stay blessed.
Arriving from Northern Rhodesia in the sixties, Mom,Dad and 4 children in our VW Microbus. Travelling up the pass mom heard a 'clanging' noise at the rear of the Combi. Closer inspection revealed that left wheel were 3 nuts loose ( you could turn them out with 2 fingers and another nut laying loose in the hubcap. God's Grace. Danny Fourie Gauteng
Brilliant, as usual. The music was particularly interesting on this one (especially the first half). You should list the song titles and artists in the description.
So much memories! Thankyou!!! Now I am alone, my husband passed 8yrs. God bless

Yip, that is Nicole’s artistic side coming through!
Thanks for this 'You Too', another wonderful road trip to watch!

Your videos are exceptional. I was born in Oudtshoorn in 1962
Gamkaskloof is a worthy bucket list dirt pass. My son and I did it in his 1000cc Suzuki Samurai at the end of 2015. Awesome.

Beautiful video shots!!! Drone does magic.
Wow it’s beautiful I drove there pulling a big trailer,I was scared but it was worth it ❤
Went down to Die Hel on my motorcycle...had been on my bucket list for year's. It was epic!
Nice one boet! Greetings from Sydney. That’s a part of SA I never visited. Good to see!
Matt you do a great job mate, I rate your channel as one of the best productions around... so honest and very relatable commentary too.
Excellent video. Thanks for producing and sharing.
I really enjoy your travel vlogs. It's always like a Feierabend mini vacation 😊👌🏻
Thanks for sharing you experience. Inspiring.
Brilliant, as usual. The music was particularly interesting on this one (especially the first half). You should list the song titles and artists in the description.
Thanks! They are all royalty free songs. Most royalty free music is garbage, so it took a while to find decent stuff😂
Wow. Thank you so much for this video!
Beautiful place, as usual you videos are just amazing. Congrats to both of you.
Epic episode as always
Love the video. I stayed there in August 2018, it was great.
So awsome right in our back yard
Wow class your pick up and you found a nice place bravo Matt 👍👏👏👏😉✊
Cool video, super informative. Didn’t even know this place existed and I’m from the Western Cape.
Fantastic vid. Made me homesick as hell! We’ve got to try this route the next time we are in SA.
I love this ...great work✌️
