- Renowned harper Michael Rooney plays 'Cailleach an Airgid' and a number of reels at Barry's Pub in Grange, Co. Sligo, as part of the Celtic Fringe Festival festivities on June 26th 2012. Michael also launched the book/CD version of his composition 'The De Cuellar Suite' at this event.
Ooohhh so joyous to hear someone simply speaking their own language of music with all the gorgeous resonance of telling a story of a whole life with a single instrument in a single sitting. This just makes me HAPPY. Thank you!
This is the best I've ever seen a harp played. Rhythm and melody coming together so well.
Absolutely superb. I could listen for hours
Hi Michael...Declan sent this to me yesterday.....his exact words..."He is head and shoulders above the rest...its still an old fashioned thing in style. He is making it modern in sound". Declan always admired your playing.
I have never enjoyed good music as much as I do now when I hear this wonderful harp in the hands of this greate musician. Thank you very much for posting this video
Hi folks, Michael has a visual impairment, like the 18th century harpist, Turlough O'Carolan.... Michael, you're an absolutely amazing harpist! There are no words to describe how beautiful your playing is.... you're a star!!!! Bless you! Lots of love, Vicky :-)) Xxxx
I love this guy's playing. x
Absolutely unreal playing, such rhythm, such life! Thank you for such a quality site for excellent music.
Lovely. I'll have to get my son learning harp to listen. Inspiring.

The Old Woman of the Silver! Fabulous playing.
Brilliant - Listen to all the Macalla 1916 Suite and the De Cuellar suite - the best of Irish culture and music . Eilish Lowe
I love your left hand on this, Micheal. Savage!
Super beautiful!
Thanks Michael. That made my spirits soar :-)

Grazie.

Fantastic!!!!
Love it. Well done 👍
I remember you playing during the summerschools in the nineties of the last century. Was it Drumshanbo ? You had a very nice frisky way of accompanying with rythmic slapping your strings in moments of exaultating !
Great to see non-saccharine music played on the harp. Very well played. May have to try a harp.
wow a teacher in school told me to do this for homework hes amazing she is one of his student her name is ms delmead she told me michael lives in sligo
He had his Weetabix this morning.
👏👏👏👏😍
I'm Irish yay 🍀
Is a typical Irish reel and jig in a modal scale? And the ornamentation on one string is that done with three ‘plucks’?
hey adam its kate :]
do u to colomcills because i had to do dis for homework aswell because a girl called miss delmead came to my class
Is there sheet music for this? 🤩
This explains how they managed to lift Megaliths !
Your comment makes no sense but i agree with you completely!
Did not know about Irish Megaliths. Thanks Now I must go to Ireland.
I think Ireland has the greatest number of megalithic monuments in all of Europe! The best known: NEWGRANGE was built some 500 years before the pyramids of Giza and more than 1,000 years before Stonehenge but there are many other wonderful sites especially along the Boyne Valley.
Just a question. Is Mr. Rooney blind?
John Goudge . No, and I can attest that as he was my Irish teacher for two years.
Anyone know the name of the last tune, starting at 3:05 ?
Come West Along The Road
@@tomdownes4489 Indeed. Thank you! Come West Along The Road.
So awesome. It sounds weirdly African.
Needs a little practice eh?
