Good heavens, this is going to be a job and a half! I've done some renovating in my time, but this is a monumental task. I am looking forward to seeing it evolve. And yes, bon courage!
Thank you Ivonne! We are excited to be cracking on with the renovations. We will be revealing a few hidden gems as we explore the property. Hopefully you'll find it interesting. 🙌
Wow! If I were twenty years younger I’d be out there with you clearing that land…I’ve done it when we lived in Zimbabwe and loved it.. looking forward to following your journey…..minus the wacky bonky music hopefully 🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️ x x
Looks to be an interesting DYI restoration/renovation. Good Luck! Have Fun! Your viewership will start growing to be sure. Please post maps, and general property/building outlines as you are able to help your viewers (me! lol) get a physical sense of Moulin Roche. TY
Hi Paul, we'll definitely be showing the plans once we have them finalised. We met one of our neighbours recently who showed us a photo of the valley where our Moulin is situated. The biggest shock to us was that our main house didn't exist back in 1905! We are trying to find out more about the valley and we'll post a video soon with our findings.
Coming, as I do, from a long line of Yorkshire water driven mills, I am very interested !!! Be choosy about what you cut down. There is a hand held computer connected unit which identifies trees which might be useful at this point.
Thanks James, the mill aspect is an exciting prospect for us. Will be amazing if we can get something working again. We are mainly removing low value trees that have sprung up over the last decade. We hope to replace them with some more interesting species over the next few years. 🌳🌿
Well done, can’t wait to see next video. I would love to give you a hand, we Canadian are born with a chain saw in our hands. Regrettably I still have 2 yrs left in the RCN. Living vicariously through your videos.🇨🇦
Already loving the start of your journey 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 What an incredible time you are going to have discovering, listening to the buildings & property and building yourselves an amazing future home💜 Love your attitudes and sense of humour😜 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Just stumbled on this video, I just had to press the subscriber button. I admire your hard work, but I was worried watching you standing on a crumbling wall.
Just found your site and it's going to be great fun following your progress, is there any likelihood of finding any original photo's/ plans to get a better idea of what you're likely to uncover. Good luck.
Hi Stephen, thanks so much 😁 Funny you should mention that we have only recently found out some history on the moulin so we will be sharing that soon. It certainly has answered a lot of questions about some of the things we are finding in the undergrowth 🌿
I'd love to see where the water wheel was originally on the mill. Do you have plans to restore it as a working mill? Perhaps use the wheel for power generation?
We will be showing the mill working in a later video. It was not fixed to the mill house building like the kind of "Constable" mill house that most of us imagine but situated in the race next to the building. The structures that covered it have been removed by a previous owner (I believe because of asbestos, so fair enough). We do hope to restore it to create at least some energy for the house.
You've definitely got a long road ahead! It'll be interesting to see what you discover as you move forward. The constant music was a bit distracting/annoying when you were talking. I just turned the volume down if I wasn't a fan of the music when you were showing time lapses but can't do that if I want to hear what you are saying. I know everybody has different taste but I personally think it's better when people don't put music in the background while talking. Look forward to seeing more!
After spending 4 weeks on antibiotics for an infection from a tick bite, my advice to those working in the jungle is to wear long sleeves and long pants.
Thanks for the advice. Yes we are aware cement is not suitable. In fact we will be doing some work to remove cement that has been used previously and replacing it with the correct material. 😁
Hi Philip there are several visas that you can apply for if you plan on staying in France longer than 90 days. Once you have a long stay visa and have moved to France you can then apply for a carte de sejour which will give you residency rights for 5 years.
@@moulinroche you will need an offer of employment from a french employer and you're skills need to be on the 'prefered' list for a carte de sejour. I've had a home in Morbihan for the last 26 years but worked in the UK , been turned down for a carte de sejour.
There are other ways, for instance if one person has an Irish passport then the other can get a carte de sejour as the 'concubine or husband' of an EU citizen.
We could probably hear what Dad said if there was no music at that point. I have a problem seperating music from speech called Auditory processing disorder (APD). So music over speech is a major problem. Music on its own is great but not when used over speech. I hope that you will keep this in mind when editing your videos. Some channels I have had to unsubscribe from as the creators do not seem to care much about people with a disability. I hope I can enjoy your videos to their fullest and not have to watch them in silence. ATB Good luck & regards from the UK
Hi Gary, thanks for letting us know. The honest answer is that we started doing some videoing without really considering the ins and outs of what we needed to make RUclips vids, so these early attempts do have bad sound quality as we were just using our phones. We have learnt on the job and just got some microphones so hopefully your viewing and listening will be better from now on. 😁
Hi Carol apologies for this. When we started the renovations I really didn't know how to edit videos very well so I'm afraid the first ten videos are a little slap dash! They do get better as we progress so welcome to the channel and please bear with us!😁
I like your choice of music. But other hugely successful renovation channels use hardly any music, often for intro and extro only. And let the sounds of the surrounding nature speak.
Thanks for your feedback. We are new to making the videos and we are just putting out stuff that we enjoy rather than worrying too much about how other people do it. There will definitely be more sounds of nature but the music is good for drowning out the sounds of diggers and power tools - which is a bit less lovely 😉
@@moulinroche I understand fully. Just something I experienced when stumbling upon a stream like Ep.#58 of 108 and struggling to find Ep. #1 in order to bingwatch the progress from the start. Also YT has the unpleasant habit of breaking the timeline by not offering the next clip in line but some entirely different. Leaving the viewer to sort it out. Then numbering of episodes iis the only way out. Looking forward to you next episodes. One question though : why Normandy instead of the south of France with its more pleasant seasons??
Oh yes that was a great tip PJW thank you. We have added the episode numbers now. With regard to the location there were a number of factors. We have friends who live here already so that helped us to get to know that area and they have been instrumental in making our transition over from the UK easier. Also it makes it simple to get back to the UK to see family. Rich's family are based on the south coast so it's an easy trip in the summer. Lastly, I guess Normandy property is well priced for the kind of thing we were after:A quirky renovation. We were tempted by the warmer climate further south and I sometimes question our choices on those rainy Normandy days. 😁
This is going to be a great series. Wishing you guys all the best with this, going to be intense work!
Thanks MSkillz3. It is intense but definitely rewarding.
"Can't gave [champagne] to a baby." Clearly, France wasn't informing your decision making yet. 😘🍾
The gate is beautiful. What a magical place!
Reminds me of the “Secret Garden” movie.
Yes it definitely has those vibes 🌱🌿🌳
Whenever I see overgrown places like that the first thing I think of is, “Goats. You need goats to take care of all that.”
We need to get some good fences up first I think 🐐

Thanks Allison, hopefully we will be up to the task. 😬
That ‘garden’ is going to be a Herculean task. Good luck
Certainly is. The landscaping is going to be as challenging as tackling the buildings 🌿
Wow! What a project! Looking forward to see more of the exciting discoveries you make 🎉. Good luck guys!

Taming the jungle seems the right first job. It's amazing how nature will reclaim its own
Yes we are trying to tackle as much as possible while it's still dormant. We don't want to disrupt the wildlife in the spring.

You will defenitly need a big shredder! And that new wall looks extremely well build!
Yes, Tony is a craftsmen. That wall will be up for a good many years to come - Just the rest of the walls to tackle next!
Binge watching with the wife , very interesting! 👍
Funny to think people are binge watching our channel 😁. We are glad you are both enjoying it!

OK. You got me the moment I heard that funny song while you were clearing the greenery. 🤣🤣🤣 I'm subscribing.🤣🤣🤣 I need the laughs.
Ha thanks Litsa, we aim to please 😁
You have a very interesting project there! Looking forward to more, but the music is too loud. I keep having to dive for the volume control.

Love watching ... but the music drove me crazy 🤪
Sheep would be helpful for cutting through all that shrubbery. They work pretty quickly too
We would love that but at the moment our animal husbandry capacity can only stretch to managing the puppy 😂

Do you know how long the property has been empty and abandoned?
We are not entirely sure yet. We are currently trying to do some research on its history but we think at least 15 years
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
After spending 4 weeks on antibiotics for an infection from a tick bite, my advice to those working in the jungle is to wear long sleeves and long pants.

Please, don't make a big mistake with using cement. The stones are not made for cement but mortar or lime.
