Could have sworn I put a comment on this video last year but here I go:
Got the original Panthera stick a year ago, thanks so much. My first arcade stick and it's been really fun to use.
Decided to finally start customizing, switching to an octagonal gate really helped improve my quarter circle inputs, and the circle gate made me appreciate grappler characters more. Gonna try switching my buttons to the silent ones and a bat top.
Again, thanks so much for the review.

This is really interesting to hear. I just got the XB1 version of the Atrox. Except for it not being PS4 compatable and the awful drivers on pc it sounds like a perfect blend of the Panthera OG and Evo.
Has same removable plexi, no heat gun needed, quick disconnect with screw connector, and the lift open lid for accessing parts. All Sands parts too.

I have the Panthera with the SFV artwork. Since I'd never consider changing the art, the only advantage the Evo would have would be the headphone jack. The panthera is awesome and I would highly recommend it. Best controller I've ever touched.

The Atrox is easy to change the artwork and the buttons/joystick. No need for the heat gun and extra plexi. Just plop the thing open and unscrew under the panel. The artwork is just a piece of paper and it comes with a plexi (like the TE2). Obviously you have to take the buttons out and unscrew the ball top to remove the plexi, but it sure is easy when comparing to the Panthera. I don't know why Razer over complicated it.
Good review, this is probably the only one that talks about getting into the guts of the stick. Don't know what Razer was thinking with that connection to the Sanwa stick lol.

As annoying as getting into the inside of this stick was (and getting the razer buttons disconnected from the wiring without breaking the tabs) I think the biggest thing I would like changed with this stick would be for it to be heavier. I may just be too used to heavier sticks like the fighting edge though.

  • @HystericalHuntress

This thing is a nightmare. The stock Sanwa levers are defective in many units, anywhere from 2 weeks to 2-3 months after buying the stick, you'll start getting flickering / ghosting inputs when going from directions like B to DB or DB to B and such. Furthermore, the stock mechanical switches don't feel as good as Sanwa switches and also like to stick / get mushy.
The REAL problem, is how big of a nightmare this thing is to mod. I put a Crown 309MJ-DX in mine and I literally had to sand/cut part of the inside of the case to make it fit as stock, as-is it only wants to take JLF levers (which is already a super tight fit inside this thing if you look) and with the 15+ screws you have to take out to get into this thing it's just nightmarish to mod it. The wiring is also a bit wonky / fragile and if you're not super careful you can damage it, not to mention the quality of the case due to it being made lighter than the original Panthera.. well it's gone downhill. This is a fairly fragile arcade stick.
PCB wise it's pretty high tier. It's not top-tier like Brook PCB's, but it has a very VERY minimal amount of input lag latently and it does what it needs to do well. The stock proprietary Razer mechanical switches are crap though and evidently a large batch of the JLF levers they use had faulty PCB/microswitch assemblies. My JLF in the PE had this problem and I've seen 10+ instances online of other people having it as well. The screws in this fragile little queen also strip fairly easily, I replaced them with aftermarket screws.. honestly the only stock thing left in my PE is the case itself and the PCB, I've replaced pretty much everything else.. mostly because I was forced to do so. Except the K-Lever I guess, I only rocked the JLF as long as I did because I didn't think I could force a 309 in, but I did eventually. I'm a Tekken player and I don't like the JLF personally.
It's cool that you can change out the art somewhat easily, and from a pure-aesthetics point this is a cool fight stick. The PCB seems pretty solid too. Everything else about this thing is a nightmare, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I would've recommended it to SOME people saying something along the lines of: 'if you're not big into the idea of modding and would use it as-is'.. but I can't even say that now due to the stock switches / lever being defective in several units. This thing is a huge downgrade from the original Panthera and I won't advise anyone to waste money on it unless they get a hell of a deal and find it cheap / used somehow.
I also guess the headphone jack is.. cool? I don't play fighting games on headphones and don't know many people who do, so in reality that was a fairly meh addition for me but if you're into that I guess it's cool.
    Pros:
    - Artwork is easy to change, kinda, still requires you to remove 6 screws.
    - The stock PCB is fairly solid and the headphone jack and additional features are kinda nice.
    - Aesthetically it's a fine enough looking stick, and the slant for your wrists to rests is a nice design feature.
    Cons:
    - Painful to mod and getting into this thing means 16 (7 for the plexi and 9 for the internal housing) screws have to be removed to actually work on anything, even the art requires removal of 7 screws (6 on the plexi and the pointless center plexi screw next to the stick) which is also a pain in the ass.
This isn't the main issue with the modding though, the bigger issue is Razer's design for the case literally limits you to only certain kinds of parts for no tradeoff. They even glued the 5-pin connector to the stock lever, they REALLY did not want people modding this thing and it shows. Even the stock buttons, the connectors on them were super stiff and ripped some of the tabs off when I swapped them, but the Sanwa buttons I put in mine don't have this same issue when taking them out.
Razer did not want you to mod this stick.. and anybody who has ever tried to mod theirs can tell you this. Not everyone wants to rock a JLF lever, but if you want ANYTHING else, prepare to start sanding / cutting or even possibly drilling to get it to fit. Literally ANY other lever besides a JLF will require you to damage / modify the internals of the case yourself to install.. learned this the hard way putting in a 309MJ-DX Korean lever.
    - Defective parts stock. Both the mechanical switches and the JLF levers have had problems in the PE for multiple people.. including myself.
    - Fragile, it may be lightweight, but that comes at a cost.
    - For the price, there's objectively better sticks on the market.
    - Literally a downgrade to the original push-button entry Panthera in almost every way.
    - This thing just kinda screams 'cheap' in a lot of areas, despite carrying a $200 price tag.
    - It's a Razer product, that's always a risk.

If you need any help, just let me know and shoot me a message on Discord, DelugeFGC#6793 is my user. Add me and I'll walk you through what you need to do for whatever lever you need to buy. You can fit any lever in the PE, literally -any- lever.. but depending on what you choose different / more extensive modification may have to be done. Honestly anything besides a JLF will require modification to some degree though. There's a kit for the JLF that makes it a kind of Jap/K hybrid in terms of levers called the Otto DIY V2 kit you could try if you don't want to mod the case as well. Best of luck.

And let's be honest, having all of those small buttons on the front of the case is going to be a nightmare for artwork cutting.

@@vDeadbolt lmao thats such a stupid ass reasoning, you do realize they had to go with the shitty vewlix layout in the arcades because of the lack of space when it was a side by side play, you think they purposely wanted to use a layout made for midget hands? and besides, you think people will say NO to a little bit more space between the lever and buttons? it's not even ergonomic and comfortable to have the hands that close to each other, which is why it makes zero sense to have them so close for a personal arcade stick since there is no space constraint unless it's one of those cheapass mini sticks that nobody should ever buy. Update - mine came in yesterday and when I was changing to a Korean lever (crown 309mj) I had to do some cutting with a Dremel. The mounting plate was like 1 mil too wide and the top would not close flush. One of the micro switch wires was also too wide and I have to cut about an inch and a half to allow clearance for the wires and mounting plate. Since I’m not going to be modding it again, there’s no need for me to open it again. The stick buttons are not bad at all.
