I stuccoed my home 23 years ago. I used a acoustical spray gun and sprayed my cement block directly onto the block. I made sure the blocks were layer neat and clean to start. Sprayed water on the block and sprayed on my stucco . It’s been 23 years in the heat of Baja California and I recommend it to anyone
This is what's about to be done on a new apt. next door to where I live. Interesting to see how the wall will look after the blocks are covered with the stucco. Much better, since my window looks right out on this wall!
Question; working with an older original, unpainted block wall, would a stucco application eliminate any need for joint tuck-pointing with mortar? Also, would a half-round block cap be applied by hand instead of a trowel tool?
Very clear tutorial! The customer should of went with a finish coat, as you can still see the outlines of the cylinder block. What percentage would the cost of a second coat have increased the project by? Why do you prefer Sherwin Williams and Dunn Edwards over Behr? Thanks.
I have a 30×70 cinder block building. Do I need to use drylock or something else on the exterior and what would I do on interior before framing? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Good job and thank you for posting. I am gathering the courage to take on a similar size project. Can you tell me the approximate wall coverage from an 80lb bag of stucco? If a top coat of stucco is to be applied, how much time should be allowed from the application of a base coat? Hope your backs are doing well these days.
I live in Golden Valley/Kingman Arizona we have colder weather then the Phoenix area is there anything you do different to a stucco wall that has finish coat. How long would the stucco last verses painting it.
A green float would’ve been a lot easier to float out the brown coat. If you were going to apply a color coat of stucco over the top you could have used a hard rubber float over the brown coat.
Hello and thank you for the tutorial. What if the cinder block is already painted? Can we follow the same procedures outlined in the video? Thank you and take care.
What kind of stucco did you use? What equivalent can we get at home depot? We thought we had to put up chicken wire in front of our cinder block. Do you put a primer on the block first?
www.homedepot.com/p/LaHabra-LH-Fastwall-Stucco-Base-Sanded-SW-80-lbs-743012/303464449 you can put chicken wire, or adhesive. We did not, and so far it held up well.
Is a cement mixer necessary for mixing stucco if you're doing a whole back yard fence? Also do u have a video on the second application that the customer on this job didn't want and what is the difference? Thank you
What are the benefits of the top coat? You mentioned one or two things. Also, I see you’re in Phoenix. I’m in Nevada! Hey! About how long should one wait between two coats? You said it was warm. But those of us I’m Arizona and Nevada know that 100 is warm. I don’t want it to dry too fast I’d I decide to do this.
Great video! Would the process be the same for slump block? I live west of I-17 and my house (as many in this area) is slump block. I always thought stucco needed chicken wire or something to adhere it to the Block.
Great video, thank you! Two questions: what do you have to do to make the stucco stick well if the concrete wall has already been painted and we’re going over the top with stucco? Would there be any issues with water/moisture ruining the stucco if you only finish one side of the cinderblock wall and leave the other side open? Thanks
About your second question that nobody answered. I’m no pro but I can say it’s best to water proof the backside. Depends also hood the core is filled with concrete and how much rain / water gets to other side. If it’s a retaining wall then I’d say absolutely waterproof the back side. I just did mine. And am now going to stucco the front side. Black mold can build up and show eventually.
The finished section doesn't look very smooth to me. Is there another technique that can be used to make the finished surface look flatter and more even?
it is not very smooth because this is base coat. if you want it smoother you would apply finish coat. Using trowel instead of sponge would give you the smoothest finish.
It looks like the thickness you applied is only about 1/4"....is that right? Would you say that the consistency of the stucco is about the same as mortar for setting block....or is it a little thinner?
Ideally the base coat is fully cured (about 30 days ) before applying finish coat. But don't take my word for it. I am a painting expert not stucco expert. Go with your stucco contractor recommendation.
I am a general contractor and this video is a great straightforward refresher on the stucco process. Good job!

What type of material did you use?
Great tutorial. Excellent job narrating the steps and use of graphics outlining products/tools used. You made the process look very simple and clean.

By far the best video I've seen explaining how something is done. I wish you were on the east coast.
TY for a great video! We've had block wall built all around our property & have now decided to have it stuccoed bc it looks so much better that way.
Glad it was helpful!
Finally - a video which shows step by step everything that is done over just a small area at a time
More relaxing than a Buddhist meditation video.
😅😅😅😅
Who are those 173 people that gave this excellent video tutorial thumbs-down? Who are they?
Most likely they are people who are wholly incapable of learning or performing this work.
I wish all videos were this good! You explained everything very well and in detail.
Very informative and easy to follow. Appreciate paint/primer suggestions as well.

Thank you so so much! This video was amazingly informative! I feel pretty confident in tackling this job myself now! Cheers friend!
Hay did you DYI that stucco job ,how did it turn out?
Nice. I've always trowelled the finish. never used water sponge, I'm going to try it!
Thank you homie for sharing!
That's really nice work.

Thank you. Great video.
Looks great

Good video. What specific Terracotta colors did you use for the primer and finish coat? Love the finish coat color. Thanks.
Great video to help me thank you
Glad it helped

Great video.
Great Video! Thanks
Is it possible to do light gray color or other colors?
If the blocks are painted can I still stucco them? Thank you
I live in Golden Valley/Kingman Arizona we have colder weather then the Phoenix area is there anything you do different to a stucco wall that has finish coat. How long would the stucco last verses painting it.
Great ez to understand . Those are good brand paints but hella expensive $$$$$
What material is used to make the mix? First layer
I heard stucco cracks with the heat and when it dries? Is that not the case?
Can it be sprayed on will it where better.
Cool video!
What La Habra product would you use for the finish final coat? Thank You
www.homedepot.com/p/LaHabra-Stucco-Texture-Coat-in-Paint-Grade-Finish-1248/303464451
What would use on a larger project to deal with the droppings?
can you do the same with lime?
Ty very much
Gracias...

What color did you use in this video?
Very Good Instructions. Would like you guys to do my fence. Looks like you're in the Phoenix AZ area. I'll give you a call!
Will this technique work for a brick firepit? Could the same paint be used/
technique should work. as far as materials (stucco/paint) you would need something that is heat resistant.
Can you recommend a similar company in Queen Creek AZ?
What does the sponge do?
Let’s say that gate were to come off the top, how would you continue that wall? Knock the top edge of stucco off and lay the blocks?
Hello and thank you for the tutorial. What if the cinder block is already painted? Can we follow the same procedures outlined in the video? Thank you and take care.
you have to apply adhesive first. ruclips.net/video/BxdNgg3_eQQ/видео.html

Whats the name of the stucco mix you used. I'm trying to find at Home Depot Thanks

Hi, can we apply stucco directly on a painted cinder block wall?
you need some kind of adhesive between paint and stucco. Stucco will not adhere well directly to paint.
Hi there, great video. Do you have to fix cracks etc. in block wall with mortar prior to doing stucco or does the stucco solidify those issues?
This is what I wanted to do but I’m worried because there’s cracks in the grout lines and holes at the bottom in some places.
Is a cement mixer necessary for mixing stucco if you're doing a whole back yard fence? Also do u have a video on the second application that the customer on this job didn't want and what is the difference? Thank you

What would the cost for that job you did.
Excellent video. Thanks!
Muito legal!!!!
Amazing on how it only took 7 min to accomplish this. Wife had seen this video and now on my a$$. 😂 Great video tutorial though.
What if my cylinder block wall is chipping away, but still sturdy, is there something I should do differently ?
i am not able to give you recommendation without looking at it.
Great video! Would the process be the same for slump block? I live west of I-17 and my house (as many in this area) is slump block. I always thought stucco needed chicken wire or something to adhere it to the Block.
Never applied stucco to a slump block before so i am not sure . sorry.
You don’t lath (chicken wire and paper) block walls.
Great video, thank you!

Paint stripper or sand blasting to remove the paint.
I would use surface bonding cement if you have a painted block wall.

You could use a sandtex paint to finish the wall..

Do you have to water wall before painting?
Is there a decorative pattern that can be done on the top coat?
we specialize in painting not stucco, so we don't do decorative stucco patterns, but in general any pattern can be done on top coat.
