I'm I missing something here??? No art work depicting the Crucifixion of Jesus... No Christian signs of the cross????
This is a great question. Thanks for asking it.
Latter Day Saints definitely believe that Jesus Christ suffered for everyone's sins and was crucified on the cross. (And we do have art depicting both.) We are grateful for His willingness to suffer and die for all of us. However, the New Testament makes it clear that His death was not the end. He was also resurrected on the 3rd day, breaking the bands of death. He lives today and stands on the right hand of God. We worship the living Jesus Christ and focus on building a covenant relationship with Him.
Another way of looking at it is this: if someone you cared about was killed by a drunk driver, would you put a car statue on your wall? Or if they died of cancer caused by smoking would you make a statue of cigarettes? Probably not. You would likely hang pictures of your loved ones, favorite memories so you could remember them by. The cross was a cruel tool of death used by the Romans. I'm not sure Jesus wants us idolize the tool of His death, but instead remember His teachings and our experiences with Him. There are many pictures throughout all of the temples depicting His interactions with God's children.
Hopefully this explanation helps.
