Ensemble Singing at it finest Three Acrobats and Mary’s voice that can change from Contralto to a male tenor in a note. I saw them from their Early days. Miss them
I grew up listening to PP&M thanks to an older Sister who had about 5 Albums & played them over. and Over. and ..... lol. So their Music is totally ingrained in my Mind, however, I NEVER saw them Perform. ! Until today & these past Recordings. Amazing to actually see them sing & play the Songs I knew so well & haven't heard most of them in over 50 yrs! Sentimental is not the word. Not even close.
I wonder, listening to and watching them now, sixty years on, how many hours they spent creating the perfection that was produced on stage in front of, I might add, an adoring audience.
No trio could duplicate their singing and harmonies And the two guitars and the bass fiddle sound like many more instruments. I got into their music in 1965 and I've loved them ever since. Never got to see them live though. They were magical.
I've seen them in person several times, and you're right; stage presence at an intense level, and yet between songs they were incredibly personable. The last time I saw Peter and Paul, Mary was gone...and yet you could feel her presence.
I picked up their first album and A Song Will Rise recently from a charity shop for $3 each. Now I’m hooked and collecting all their records. Love their music.
I think that was their fourth album. First just called Peter Paul and Mary, second called Moving, third called In the Wind, Fourth A Song Will Rise, Fifth See What Tomorrow Brings, sixth just called Album, seventh Album 1700, eight Late Again- the peak 60s years- a remarkable set of records.
I just love this song/concert, I must of played it a dozen times from end to end on my big tv. Im so intune with it that I actually picture and mimic their performance when singing the songs. I even wait for when someone hits their guitar in hangman. Great concept 10/10
Their guitar work is so completely underrated. Noel, especially - although Peter's fingerpicking (usually with just two fingers) is pretty impressive. Some guitar magazine needs to feature the work these two did
Hey hey (jane, jane), my lord and lord (jane, jane) I'm a gonna buy (jane, jane), three mockin' birds (jane, jane) One for to whistle (jane, jane), one for to sing (jane, jane) One for to do (jane, jane) most any little thing (jane, jane) Chorus: Children go where I send thee, how shall I send thee Hey hey, my lord and lord Well I'm gonna send thee three by three Three for the hebrew children Two for the paul and silas One for the little-bitty baby That's born, born, born in bethlehem Hey hey, my lord and lord I'm a gonna buy three hunting dogs One for to run, one for to shout, One for to talk to when I go out Well I'm gonna send thee six by six, Six for the six that never got fixed Five for the five that stayed alive Four for the four that stood at the door Three for the hebrew children Two for the paul and silas One for the little-bitty baby That's born, born, born in bethlehem Hey hey, my lord and lord I'm gonna buy three muley cows One for to milk, One to plow my corn One for to pray on christmas morn (chorus) Well I'm gonna send thee nine by nine Nine for the nine that dressed so fine Eight for the eight that stood at the gate Seven for the seven that came from heaven Six for the six that never got fixed Five for the five that stayed alive Four for the four that stood at the door Three for the hebrew children Two for the paul and silas One for the little-bitty baby That's born, born, born in bethlehem Hey hey, my lord and lord, I'm a-gonna buy three little blue birds One for to weep, One for to mourn, One for to pray when I am gone.
Kinda hard to believe this is what you can do with two guitars a double bass and three voices. One of their treasures - gawd I loved them...still do.

It’s wonderful to see they loved what they did. Singers smiling during a performance - unheard of.
Bravissimi! Li ascolto spesso!
Thank-you Peter, Paul, and Mary!!!
They had such stage present and those magical voices no auto tuning here
I've seen them in person several times, and you're right; stage presence at an intense level, and yet between songs they were incredibly personable. The last time I saw Peter and Paul, Mary was gone...and yet you could feel her presence.

The absolute best ever. Nobody ever came near PP&M.

Amazing performance. And hats off to the stunning, crisp, anticipatory camera switches, wow...the timing...the framing.
Truly a deep, soul-moving classic!

Chorus:
Children go where I send thee, how shall I send thee
Hey hey, my lord and lord
Well I'm gonna send thee three by three
Three for the hebrew children
Two for the paul and silas
One for the little-bitty baby
That's born, born, born in bethlehem
Hey hey, my lord and lord
I'm a gonna buy three hunting dogs
One for to run, one for to shout,
One for to talk to when I go out
Well I'm gonna send thee six by six,
Six for the six that never got fixed
Five for the five that stayed alive
Four for the four that stood at the door
Three for the hebrew children
Two for the paul and silas
One for the little-bitty baby
That's born, born, born in bethlehem
Hey hey, my lord and lord
I'm gonna buy three muley cows
One for to milk,
One to plow my corn
One for to pray on christmas morn
(chorus)
Well I'm gonna send thee nine by nine
Nine for the nine that dressed so fine
Eight for the eight that stood at the gate
Seven for the seven that came from heaven
Six for the six that never got fixed
Five for the five that stayed alive
Four for the four that stood at the door
Three for the hebrew children
Two for the paul and silas
One for the little-bitty baby
