    Circle of Realms is a fantasy LEGO board game that draws inspiration from Warhammer, Dungeons & Dragons, Heroscape, Heroes of Might & Magic, Runescape, and many other games. It utilizes LEGO factions based loosely on existing themes and concepts (Castle, Knight's Kingdom, Pirates, Ninja, Vikings, and more!), although names and lore have been completely reinvented to suit the COR Universe.

    I think honestly, of many complaints, my primary concern for this game has to be the dice bloat. All the attacks, all the defense, it requires everybody to get a ton of extraneous plastic. Always, always, always, you want to standardize your numbers as much as possible and mitigate rolling.
    As a suggestion, reduce the amount of rolls for things like defense (the fewer forced rolls the better). Then, rebalance damage, health, and everything else to standard and easy to acquire dice; think in d3s and d6s, and increase the number of dice you roll, rather than the actual faces.

      Also maybe the scale is off. One unit at a time feels sort of like a slog. There’s a reason single-unit activation is typically reserved for skirmish games and not full war games.

      Thanks for the feedback! I know my system not for everyone, and I may need to take some of your suggestions to heart, at least in variants if others wanted to implement the game with less space/scope. But this is what my friends and I have enjoyed playing, and I think that to a certain extent you and I are looking for different things in a game. That's why I love the hobby, though. So many different things to try, and everyone can find something they enjoy.

      @@CORbricksYeah. I’ll be honest, even if you only have a few dice, the dice issue shoukdnt be a problem, and I like the thought of being able to control several units at once.

    Hey man, im so glad ive found your channel and project. A lego game like this is something thats been bouncing around in my head for years.
    Im already sold on the game and would love to replicate it and play with some friends.
    I know its a big ask, and dont let me tell you how to youtube, but id love to see a longer video covering all the factions and their units or maybe a video for each faction that lists each unit, hero, and building.

    Modifying the attack instead of the defense may reduce communication time. You can say I did 5 damage instead of I did 4 and minus 1 from your defense roll. Just a tip, I don’t know if there’s a specific reason you did it that way.

    • @CORbricks
      @CORbricks  2 месяца назад +2

      I actually just recently switched to moving all these penalties and bonuses to the defense roll (momentum bonuses, for example, used to be +1 to attack). Since we are looking at the attack rolls to determine critical hits and rolling multiple dice, I figured it would be more straightforward to just move it all to the defender. That way, we don't need to keep track of whether these modifications apply to critical hits and helps split up all the "math" more evenly to each side of the roll. We'll see how my next proper game goes with it this way, and I may adjust accordingly!

    Are you aware of Lego’s anti war policy ?

    • @CORbricks
      @CORbricks  2 месяца назад +4

      Oh yes, though as a policy it seems to be getting more and more selective with every decade. I can assure you, the way some of my more sinister factions operate, the overarching war theme is the least Lego would be unhappy about...

    Hi, i would like to recomend something interesting i found... these fractions are great (like in mz favorite game Warcraft III, they are easily recognizable), but i would rather use parts from aliexpress from lord of the rings (lego armor, weapons, mounts). Ofc it's my humble opinion :) keep up the great work! „I will watch your career with great interest“

    • @CORbricks
      @CORbricks  2 месяца назад

      I am more openly supportive of AliExpress and Alibaba than many in the AFOL community, but I don't know if I want to incorporate parts that don't have official equivalents. I'm familiar with the LOTR army builders and such on there, but I feel like many of the armor/weapon sets look out of place in comparison to official Lego parts and their equivalents. I could be convinced if I find something with an aesthetic that strikes me, though!

    • @CORbricks
      @CORbricks  2 месяца назад +1

      The Cusped Kingdom is typically the team new players pick (since its faction traits don't change how it operates much from the baseline rules), so this honestly tracks with a typical Kingdom player's decisions. 😂

    Does the riposte damage not get affected by weapon defences? Also is there a way to break through armour?

    • @CORbricks
      @CORbricks  Месяц назад +1

      Once an attack is turned negative, the attacker is hurt regardless of any armor they have. There's always a risk of exposing a weakness when you're attacking (plus, even I have my limits for how complicated I want an attack to be!). There is no blanket way to break through armor aside from using a different attack type, but some units have abilities that allow them to ignore or mitigate the effects of armor! There are, for example, Cultist units with hooked swords that pull aside shields and thus ignore all shield armor.

      @@CORbricks I actually wanted to be ironic:
      There are, at least in my humble opinion, WAY too many Steps/Details to consider for Combat. Hence the mentioning of "Simulation" instead of Game!

    • @CORbricks
      @CORbricks  2 месяца назад

      @@King_of_the_Shrooms 😂 I definitely understand that view. I have teetered between adding and removing complexity from combat in the past, so it may continue to evolve. As with many games, these go faster in practice, especially since you become intimately familiar with your own units over the course of a game.

    Thoughts on an adaptation for Star Wars Lego?

    • @CORbricks
      @CORbricks  2 месяца назад +2

      I used to think a lot about Star Wars (Star Wars and Castle sets were what dominated my childhood, so I have a lot of things from the early Star Wars era), but I never thought up anything too satisfying. I would imagine that my armor and attack type system wouldn't be as logical for Star Wars unless you were to pull in attack types like the ones in the old Knights of the Old Republic games. Plus, Star Wars is defined by its planets and starships, and I'm not sure how one would properly give respect to both of those without moving to a very different (and probably more abstract) system.

    I think this game comes off as a tad overcomplicated. I get it's cool to try and simulate momentum, or night and day, but it seriously comes off as cumbersome, and annoying. That's just my 2 cents, as a wargamer who's dabbled in a bunch of tabletops.
