Lego can be convenient Alternate Tabletop Terrain

  • Using Lego as Tabletop Terrain definitely shouldn’t be a go to. I just remember using them years ago when my friends and I played Apocalypse games in the basement. I had a bunch of Lego buildings that we just plopped all over the place as proxies and we had alternate warhammer terrain in no time. Definitely far from immersive but sometimes you just need stuff to use.
Plus with all the examples of people doing odd things for Poorhammer, borrowing roughly 32mm scaled terrain seemed like an easy transition.
Obviously this isn’t for tournaments or anything, but for odd narrative and casual games with friends it adds that extra layer of not taking much seriously. It’s a wargame with plastic toys at the end of the day, no need to pretend like it’s going on the resume. And if it was, you’ll probably be going to tournaments that provide their own warhammer 40k or Age of Sigmar terrain anyway.
Just throwing out another odd idea, though it doesn’t have as much weight these days with 3D printing on the rise. But if you got Lego City stuff, may as well put it to some use as alternative proxy terrain right?
Soapbox Talk - Tentative title for another DDBuilds series. I don’t like doing opinion pieces unless it’s for a wild idea that I use frequently or something rather benign that shouldn’t spark unnecessary rabid commentary. Whether it be using Lego in Warhammer projects like a filthy heretic or describing an approach to something unusual, this series aims to add food for thought when approaching a conventional topic with unconventional means.

Trying to ensure I don’t just release 2 videos every 2-3 months: Work on the Freehand course is continuing behind the scenes. I’ll be releasing it as a giant batch when the time comes.
3D printing is on the rise so terrain is much more available, but you still gotta paint those too. Just tossing another idea if you’re struggling to fill tables and also collect Lego.

I'm amazed you were able to find a bin of garage sale Legos for this video and totally didn't have to stage that shot. Must've taken forever

Exactly I use all of my grandchildrens Lego and help them make terrain out of it as they wanted to play wargames. It's suitable for any wargame . Just build and play with whatever figures you have.

There are amazing brick textured bricks (gray, green, whatever colour), if you build a really good and immersive models they would look just as good. However it is the same price at the same time....so if you have more extra, maybe paint them? Also terrain can be build from litteral trash)

Yea it's all a matter of convenience, and if they collect Lego and Warhammer it's probably a safe bet they don't wanna paint the bricks (realistic or not) if they can get away with it. Still a decent tie over while more suitable terrain is made/obtained.

I like this idea, but it has a major flaw: price. Lego and even lego rip-offs are simply too expensive.
So, if you want epic terrain, lego isn't a good choice. Instead, foam and such crafted terrain is better used. Problem with it is that it takes up a lot of space.
So yeah, using lego is good.
Perhaps, second-hand sets could be used instead.

I personally bought 5lbs of legos on Etsy for $25 along with 4 third party Lego base plates to act as a playmat. All that costed about $42 which with the amount of stuff I can create and switch out honestly very well worth it.
