This being one of the very few norwegian songs i actually like, and have had in the back of my mind for at least 15 years now, I figured I'd take a crack at explaining the song to those in the comments that don't understand the lyrics, but might want to. I could just translate the lyrics, but since it's a song heavily influenced by old school slang and references, a lot would have been lost in translation. Also, the lyrics could mean different things to different people, as many songs do. Verse 1: We're introduced to a family of 4. Mother, daughter and 2 sons. The eldest brother is the focus. He's of unknown age, but he deals in street drugs and owns a sealed gun he uses to demand respect and keep away wannabe heroes from his influence. He starts in low-risk crime but as time goes he grows more and more daring. The small stuff doesn't bring in the cash he wants so together with a partner he steals a Mercedes and breaks into a computer store, getting away with the loot. 1 robbery turns into many, he wanted more, but who knows what drove him, the money or the thrill. Next follows an escapade of crime and the 'good' life. His friends are tough, his enemies the cops. He routinely fucks women that are drawn to his money, and are described as 'thin with silicone and tanned faces'. He also beats these women without twitching an eye. But for all the Kingpin qualities of his life, every night there is a 12 year old scrawny, bloody boy that haunts his dreams. Chorus: "Watch yourself, knew you wanted to be tough. There's a thing you don't sense, even in a life without consequence. Watch yourself, watch yourself" Verse 2: Now time is turned back, and we're introduced to the mother, a woman with many dreams. She got the man she wanted, 2 sons and a daughter, and for many years the house was filled with laughter. Every day at 5pm, the husband would come home from work and hug his wife. This kept on, but one day the husband skipped the hug, smelled like cheap perfume, and the wife senses he's up to no good and confronts him. He lays the cards on the table, admits he's found another woman and wants a divorce. The wife is enraged, but through anger and tears fights to keep the children. She wants to keep them together, to love them and teach them of honesty. There are hard times ahead. Bills to pay, food to be bought, having to work extra hard to support her kids and make ends meet. The kids grow up, but without a father and an absent mother when they need someone to talk to. The mother realizes this, but instead of facing her troubles she runs away into bitterness and alcohol, worrying that everything she had sacrificed was in vain. Chorus: "Watch yourself, no one is there to look out. before you knew it, the sweet life had passed. Pulling yourself up is hard when the one you love leaves you. Watch yourself, watch yourself" Verse 3: The narrator tells you that life is a quest from the moment you are born. They know this from watching their older siblings grow up. It pays to catch them young if you're going to be a good brother. So before the little brother in the story turned 10, he was sure about his future. He wanted to grow up big and strong like his elder brother, where he found comfort in the absence of his father. But with bad grades in school he took a lot of flak from his mom, so he did like his big bro and ditched the school altogether. This happened around the time 501(the Levis brand of jeans) was popular, so lil'bro breaks into a store and sold what he got on the streets. He took pride in this and went to elder bro for praise, but as big brothers go, this just earned him ridicule and insults. "I'll prove to you I got the balls" lil'bro says. Being taunted by your elder siblings is harder than people think. So little man is in his room laying plans. The night of the first snowfall he sneaks out of their 4th floor apartment. What's he up to? He breaks open a car and unfortunately gets it going. 110 km/h, 130 km/h, it's going way to fast. There's a crash, an explosion of black. The snow is falling in droves like a punctuation, in the wreck lies the body of a 12 year old boy. Chorus: "Rest yourself, you were the one no one looked after. You wanted everyone to see you, now you're resting in peace. I know the angels will make sure nothing will happen to you. Rest yourself. Rest yourself." It's a heavy, heavy song, with no real moral or message, but as an older brother myself, I could not imagine if this kid was my own brother. It's never explained who holds the narrative, but through deduction it's quite apparent it's the sister watching her family fall apart. I hope this proves useful to those just digging the beat :)

Google-translate
They were a family of four, one mother, one daughter and two sons
The oldest-selling beans, rock speed and owned gunner
Admittedly, it was plummeted but still had effect
It gave respect, created horror and chased everyday heroes away
He started to grow small and he became more rude and rude
That's a little longer money, you're crouching
Then he laid a plan with a jar and together they stole a Merce
They crash into a computer store and get rid of stolen units
A slope became fast to more, wanted more, the boy mista counting
Who knows what drives him, was it excitement or excitement?
His friends were harsh, his enemies were cheating
Yes, the boy was suddenly grown up, the family recovered without
He grew up in a flat apartment
Pulling ladies became routine
They thin with silicone and a lot of lint strap I tried
Who wants clothes
But he also gave his ladies a bank, without despising a mine
Because he was cold and heartless, never nervous
Hard against the hard, serious conscience
He used a sphere to get heavy, took sun and used himself
He used bite-tied-when he claimed debt
He stood if someone beat, he ruled from the throne
Because he was the king in the environment and pleased with the situation
But there was something in his dreams at night that bothered him -
It was a twelve year old blonde bleach and bloody boy who chased him
---
Beware now
Knowing you would just be raw
You would live without limits
But that's one thing you do not agree
No matter what you might think, it had big consequences
Beware now, beware now
---
She had many dreams, got the man she loved, two sons and one daughter
For many years the house was filled with laughter
At 5 o'clock after work when the man came home
He put his hands around her wife and she hugged her
That's how it happened, but one day the man jumped over the kiss
He stinks cheap perfume and smell owls in the bog
Then he put the cards on the table and explained the situation
He had met another lady and wanted to be divorced from the woman
She was broken, broken, desp and pissed off
But she fights like a madman to get the children's rights
Would keep them gathering and giving the kids love
Give them confidence when they grow up and teach them about honesty
It was a tough time with bills and food to be bought
She works extra in the evenings to make the ends meet
And the kids they grew up and had to dodge WHAT they got
That the mother was never there when they needed to talk to
She realized it and ran into disappointment and bitterness
Now she drank - to hide away her bad conscience
Scare away the sensation of slowly choking
In the sense that everything she had sacrificed was in vain
---
---
It is an eternal search from the day you are born
I have older sibling soul so I know how it feels
Too early you will be crooked if you are good brother to be
So before little brother in the storyline we tell the age of ten
Was he sure in his answer
He would be like the brother was, big and hard
There he found comfort in his lack of a father
But with bad grades he got a lot of stress from his mother
So he did like the brother, and gave birth to the whole school
This occurred at the time when 501 was popular
He broke into a shack and sold what he had stolen
Would tell his brother, he was so proud and wanted to boast
But the brother just laughed at him and called him a piss
"I'll probably prove that I can dry that I'm good"
But the brother said; "You do not dare a shit, you're just lying"
I promise you a big brother who mocks you is worse than you imagine
So now he lay in his room and made plans
The snow came that night the boy took action
He sneaked out on the balcony and climbed fast down from the fourth
What did he have for you? he went to a cart
Got the lock, plug the engine and got it started unfortunately
Hundred and twenty, one hundred and thirty, suddenly go too fast
Then come a click, you explode black
The snow falls and falls like saying everything is over
In the wreck lies the body of a 12 year old boy
Hva skjer med søstra a??
