Happy birthday, Mark! Got it in 9:27. Really clever setup. Seeing how the 3 cell regions translate across to the neighboring 9-region and propagating through the rest of the puzzle makes for some really satisfying deductions!
Happy birthday, Mark. I'm glad to see I'm finally learning. My start was identical, even to colouring the three regions the same colour, then changing colours when I identified the SET/leftover ramifications.
I was pleasantly surprised by how neatly it all slotted together, and enjoyed figuring out the colouring that's the key to the solve. My time was within a couple of minutes of yours.
And mine at just over 20. I did like the way it unfolded, from an initial "what do I do", through to "colouring does some of it but not all" to "ah - now I can finish". I did things in a slightly different order to Mark (I had the 3 towards the top left a long time before he did).
15:06 -- anytime my solve time is shorter than the length of the full video, I'm happy. I would have been slightly quicker, but I made a slight false start. First of all I started from the right-hand 'stripe' which doesn't get you as far as quickly as starting at the left does. If I'd started with the left I think I'd have realized my logic error sooner. Essentially I saw the "stripe" and suspected roping pretty much instantly, but I was still instinctively thinking in 3x3 box regions even though I knew they didn't apply, and assumed that a stripe couldn't be beside itself or even 2 columns over from itself. I thought for a moment I'd have to do fancier colouring than just stripes, but then realized the first couple regions (on the right) would be impossible with what I'd just done, and THEN I realized that the same colour stripe could be beside itself. So if I'd realized that quicker, which I do think I would have done if I'd started at the left, then my final time would have been closer to Mark's, I suspect. Which leaves me pretty chuffed indeed! :) Everything after that deduction went smoothly, and I honestly don't understand how people can physically get sub-5-minute times. I can see shaving a few minutes off my time, but most of the deductions did not take THAT much time. Ah well.
That was fun! Please do more like this every now and again -- it's great to get a hard one to force me to learn something, but these easy ones are so satisfying. I loved the unique roping.

Really clever but approachable puzzle! It's actually one of the few I've managed to solve without getting lazy and watching the video (solved it in 15:22)
I tried this and had absolutely no idea where to start for about 20 mins, so i watched the video up until you mentioned set theory and then it became so obvious i facepalmed my head to death :)

I do wonder if the last few stripes of three digits (starting around 11:50) had to be monocolor due to the geometry of the puzzle, or if it was only because of the choice of dots that made it so. In other words, when you got to that point, if there had been different dots in the remaining stripes, could you have ended up with blue and red alternating in those stripes? I think so, but I'm not sure. My time today was 9:13, and I was solver number 1065.
I had wondered the same, and - like you - think it should be possible. Going back to before I deduced the stripe in the second phase of colouring I think it could be done (with different dots, obviously). But I'm not sure it would be solvable without a lot more dots.
