- When Washington Post editor David Von Drehle moved into a new home, he found his neighbor, Charlie White, was not your typical 102-year-old. Striking up a friendship, Von Drehle discovered the colorful White, who'd already lived a couple of lifetimes, had a lot to teach others about making the most of our time alive. Correspondent Luke Burbank talks with Von Drehle about a remarkable character, the subject of "The Book of Charlie."

Wish I had a neighbor like him! He was a gift you found and regifted to us with a book!
Such an amazing story. He literally has seen it ALL. From before radio to having a smart phone.
You young kids, don't underestimate the older people around you
Who needs the Book of Mormon, when you've got the Book of Charlie? I always admire people who live up to be in their 100s, or even become a super-centenarian, after living past 110 years of age. Bless your heart, Charlie!
Once attended a memorial for a man who lived to 107. To this day I can't even comprehend how much change you would witness living that long 🤔
Great story! Thanks, and more like this please!
I would have loved to have had a long conversation with Charlie. Thank you for sharing his wonderful life with us❤
I love Charlie!! Awesome length of a hard lived life. But what a human being❤
Charlie lived by
"doing the right thing" became a tresured goft to all he encountered, and beyond. Rewarded with living a complete full long life. Now for continuous generations to have opportunity to learn by his extraordinary example.
It's always wonderful seeing Chris Cooper in anything- I wasn't expecting him in this story!
❤❤❤❤❤ Love this, Love Chris Cooper, Love the neighbor for writing the book, Love Mustangs and now I love Charlie! 😊😊😊 thank you
Worked until his 90s. The fact that he didn’t retire when he could have is key. He continued to engage his mind, which probably helped keep him out of dementia in those latter years.
Just what I needed to see and hear this afternoon, thank you, Luke. ♡
That story was beautiful. I’ll have to get that book.
Only a matter of time now before Tom Hanks plays him in a movie. Anybody else notice a resemblance?
He kinda did already with The Green Mile
I want to read this book. This book will hopefully inspire me to live a long full life.
Wow, Amazing Life
Kudos Charlie …. You found the core to everything … do the right thing
Thank you for this nice story. ,
Thanks for sharing ❤
I think I’ll buy this book. Seems like a good read. Makes me miss my grandpa.
How wonderful
I hope to live this long so that I can understand life better...
Beautiful
Incredible ❤
Saw the story was great
Looking so nice.
My dear late mom in law Paula ADMITTED to being 98 when she died. But I think she was probably the big 1-0-0. Vibrant, active, and beautiful, she welcomed me as a new daughter to the family when I married her oldest son Ric (we are still married, now 15 years)..So much of life is what we choose to make it. And that is especially true as we grow older....I am 75, still a kid in Charlie's book!!! Ditto Ric - he's 80.
I am really excited to read this one 😊
You know I got it!!!🎉
❤️❤️❤️
Age 109 Blessed. Artist & Scientist
A REAL DOCTOR, not like the ones now.
Cool.😎
Retired in his 90s. Yes, 90s😮😅😅
A life well lived
This is a bit off-topic, but the death of spy Robert Hansen is in the news. Chris Cooper portrayed him in a film called Breach in 2007
Nice car
Good genes required...
What did he eat? That’s what’s important to know.
When did he die
He must've died either in 2014 or 15 if he was born in 1905 and lived to be 109.
@@lilamint ok thanks sunday morning never told when he died
I love how the media completely ignores God and God's role in living well and long. Was Charlie a Christian? Almost certainly, because his dad was a pastor, and it was his dad who taught him much of life's skills. What is the point of living 107 years if you spend the rest of eternity cut off from God? Jesus said, "When I come back, will I find faith upon the earth?" The answer our culture, our popular entertainment, and the creative arts has for him is "no." All nature glorifies God except for man.
Your the only one that sees the truth. People care about the wrong things.
Maybe he was a religious man, but that's now what the story was about. And I'm not sure why you think it's the role of the media to promote "God's role in living well and long." It's the media's role to inform and entertain. That's about it.
People can be absolutely honest and competent yet say things that are not true. I am not saying that’s the case here. But people need to distinguish between honest people recounting a story, and whether that story is true. If people can’t distinguish between the two they need to stay off juries.
Ok from Russia
Tell Hunter Biden I said hi
@@mikeywestside8509 no problem
Is this Biden’s younger nephew?
