    After years with my Pro-300, I finally upgraded to a Pro-1000, at a large savings (about 375 usd). Most of my landscapes don't have bright vivid colors, a point I considered when choosing the Pro-1000 over the Pr0-1100. Very happy with the results so far.
    Thanks for the work you do Keith.

    Excellent detailed and unbiased review on the PRO-1100 and the comparison with the 1000. Looking forward to a similar review and comparison between the PRO-2600 and the PRO-2000 that you looked at back in 2016.

      Thanks - it's unlikely to be quite as detailed. I had been hoping to get one here, but nothing has happened there and having one in the kitchen would need a lot of local negotiations.
      Still working on getting a look at one though. The 1100 has been here quite a while ;-)

    Thanks Keith for a great review as usual and detail you go into compared to other RUclips reviewers is much appreciated. I am sticking with my P900 but I have to say the utilization of a vacuum system for paper handling is a big plus for Canon. I would encourage people to read the written review as well as the amount of detail Keith goes into is outstanding. I don't know how you have time to do your "day" job". Look for a coffee 🙂

      Thanks for that - appreciated.
      When I set up the company [20 years ago] I deliberately decided to allow 2-3 days a week for 'business development'. It's partly how I've managed to maintain my interest in photography.
      We've had a slack couple of months for architectural work, and as I've mentioned a while ago, we've had various family issues, so I decided to step up the testing and YT stuff partly to benefit from the much better ad rates at this time of the year. That said, I'm glad I don't have to test new printers at this level too often ;-)

    Thank you for all your hard work on all the videos and written reviews. Been looking at printing for a while now reading/watching your channel. Would love to have a pro 1100, but after looking at all the info. Decided (just could not justify the pro 1100. Maybe in a year or two) the best printer for me at this time in my photography/printing journey would be the pro 300. Again Thank You for all your hard work.

    As usual Keith your extremely thorough review of this new Pro-1100 is both interesting and at times way beyond my hobby skills ! . Though we are in a world of needing the best and latest I'm sure my Pro-1000 will serve me well for some time yet . The argument between want and need is something that I study much more in my retirement . At my present learning rate I'd need to live for another 75yrs or more to fully get to grips with my Canon 1DXii and Photoshop . I also have a Pro-300 but that's it ( my wife says ) .

    Hi Keith. Thanks for all the work you put into this and the written reviews!
    I had thought I would purchase the Pro-1100 but I don't think it's a good fit for me. I have a tendency to relocate my workspace every year or two and it sounds like the pro-1100 prefers a permanent installation. I expect that's fine for most users but I think it might be a source of problems in my case.
    The Epson p900 is probably a more sensible choice for my circumstances. I had thought I'd go with Canon since I've had a positive experience with the pro 100 I picked up a few years ago. I have not had a very good experience with my current Epson, a Pro 3800, but I suspect that has much to do with the fact that it often went unused and that is a problem with all of the pro pigment printers. I am trying to be more aware of the need for regular use. I like the more robust build of the Canon, the larger ink cartridges, and the vacuum paper feed but in the end it is probably a poor fit for my roving studio.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  2 дня назад

      Yes - the 1100 is a thirsty printer to move any distance - The cost of a [full] move is perhaps 50% of the cost of a new printer, which comes with a reasonable amount of ink, even after setup.
      Moving around a house/office is no great issue, if you have someone to help, but it's that full shipping process which can hurt.

    As I’ve come to expect from you Keith, this was a very good review. If Keith saved you from being tricked into upgrading your old Pro 1000 to a 1100 - send him a cash tip. It’s hard to find qualified people - their skill and knowledge should be rewarded by those that benefit proportionately.
    Or at least LIKE and share a link to this YT.
    I won’t be buying a larger Epson or Canon printer any time soon, but if I ever contemplate it, Keith would be my trusted source for help and information.
    He’s a gentleman and a scholar and as you can see from this review, common sense and facts and in particular his experience and knowledge is shared liberally. May he be blessed abundantly by God.

    Thank You for the informative video, as usual. @12:20 about the coating.... well, let me say that me and a lot of friends are addicted to Print 'n' Play games, and the option to have components already protected from scratch with the coating results in a big plus and could be a decisive factor in choosing this printer.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 дней назад +1

      Thanks but I'm minded to say that that is not the coating you are looking for...
      It really is not that special - absolutely not enough to pick the printer for a job like that.

    There are a wide variety of photography hobbyists, enthusiasts, artists, and pros who long for a machine like this and get the sense they are walking into a minefield of issues because they are. They have different means, resources, & expectations, therefore it's the individual's circumstances that guide whether a huge printer is something practical. It takes money, time, and space. Just storing many large prints is an endeavor.
    It's useful for printing newbies wondering about this (or any other) printer should review the Q&A for this product on the BH sales website as the questions are common to everyone, & some of the answers from users are very good. One states that the setup to fill the ink lines uses about half of a complete set, and that one can expect about 125+ prints from a set averaged, and that in his experience the paper cost for a print is higher than the ink cost, a useful guideline.
    As far as BH, I have without your explicit permission answered at least one question there by referring people to your channel and this website. :)

    Hello Keith, after watching a review on the fotospeed channel about this printer the guy mentioned that he noticed more detail sometimes on the prints from the 1100 vs the 1000. Have you ever found this to be the case in your assessment of similar prints from both printers? Thanks for all the information you provide, much appreciated.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  4 дня назад +1

      I don't have a 1000 to try - it was 2016 when I did my testing so the few prints I have left are not suitable for such comparisons.
      If there is any difference, I would not expect it to be much.Remember that the 1000 and 1100 use exactly the same print head.
      I'd ideally want to see a full methodology and analysis of any such comparison - this is a difficult test to do in a rigorous and methodical manner.
      BUT... I'd also note that if there was any significant difference, you would have read it first in Canon PRO-1100 marketing materials ;-) ;-)

    Did you miss anything? If I could have thought of something, I probably would not have had to watch your videos ;)
    As to replacing a model 1000 by an 1100, I would say that a commercial photographer with a financially depreciated 1000 should sell it in the 2nd hand market and buy a new 1100 (or...). If only to give something of the tax deductions to someone else, maybe an amateur or starter.

    • @KeithCooper

    Keith I have been enjoying your reviews on this PRO-1100. I have been using the Canon Pro10 for several years and have been happy with the print quality but it limits me to 13X19 and I going to have to go bigger next year. Would the print quality of the 1100 be similar to the 10 or a little better?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  4 дня назад

      The inks are a couple of generations ahead of the PRO-10 IIRC.
      With good profiles and paper you should find improvements in several areas - not huge but a step more than from the pro-1000 to pro-1100
      I suspect you will find finest print detail is handled a bit better too.
      Where you will see an appreciable difference is in paper handling and the range of media options - I reviewed the PRO-10 a good few years ago. Print quality fine, but many other aspects were not welcome, such as forced margins on some papers.

    • @jackeyler971
      @jackeyler971 4 дня назад

      @@KeithCooper Thanks, the print margin issue is my only real complaint about the Pro 10. The reliability when its not been used for awhile has been a big plus too.

    Thank you Keith, for all your excellent coverage of the PRO-1100!!!
    Question regarding moving the printer: Do you see any issues with having the printer on a slider that can slide several inches on a desktop? Because of the printer's size, and because I anticipate making A2 and 17X25 inch prints, I would like to be able to slide it forward to make a print (with enough space behind the printer to accommodate the paper), then slide it back out of the way to free up desk space for examining / mounting the print on the same desk. No sliding while the printer is printing. Thoughts? Thanks!

    Are you able to make a step by step instructional video for using the Canon Media Configuration Tool? (include using the am1x and creation of your own paper profile).
    It is a very confusing software and I never get it to work.
    I have experienced driver crash, printer refused to print, or it sometimes cannot be upload to printer. All sorts of drama....

    Your videos are a trove of thoughtful, comprehensive and practical advice. I plan to buy my first professional quality printer and want to print A2 paper. I have narrowed my search to the Canon Pro-1100 and the Epson P900 and would appreciate your thoughts as to what criteria might be dispositive. I am an experienced amateur photographer (wildlife/BIF, portraits, landscapes, streets); my work justifies the investment. I have the space for both. The difference in ink cost is not critical. My key concern is print quality, mindful I will need to put in the time and money to master this digital print medium as I once did with B&W and color darkroom printing. I'd very much appreciate your advice. We could arrange a private session of you prefer to discuss this offline. Thank you in advance.

    Keith I know we are talking apples and oranges and that comparison is probably a stretch, however do you think you could do a print comparison with the Pro1100 and the ET8550 on say 11x14 or 13x19? FYI I have printed around 1500 prints on my ET8550 mostly 8x10 and only about 1/3 of the way through the second set of inks from the original setup. The prints look amazing to me but just wondering how they might compare to the Canon Pro1100? Thanks Mike

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 дней назад +1

      If I did such a comparison, I'd still likely not publish it - there are just too many variables and caveats [paper choice, profiling for example].
      I'd suggest that the 8550 could even best the 1100 on some ultra gloss papers since it's dye based. However I'd expect the bigger pigment ink set of the 1100 to clearly win out on many more papers and B&W for example. Note that definitions of 'clearly' vary ;-)
      It is apples and oranges - if they look great to you, you'll appreciate why we spent our own money and an 8550 sits on my desk ;-)

      Take care with the roll adapter. I would not want to use it for expansive papers - I don't greatly like its spindle-less design. Looks a great idea, but not with the print surface and entire weight of a roll resting on rollers. That said, some do like it
