I'm gonna be honest and say in this case it's 90% how amazing Phoebe herself sounds. She is some real gold, musically. And good on the engineer for not getting in the way of that! (This coming from a mix engineer).
I have just recently discovered Phoebe Bridgers. For me she is the female songwriter I like best since Joni Mitchell. She will have a great career, I believe. The session at Paste Studios is very beautiful. I could listen to it for hours. Maybe irrelevant side note: "Georgia" strongly reminds me of Lloyd Cole's "No More Love Songs".
No one has professed their love for this wonderful human in a year. Since I discovered her today, I get to be the new one: Phoebe Bridgers, I love you!
listening to her talk about ryan adams makes my heart clench, she didn't deserve all of that bs. :// but i resonate so badly with motion sickness, abuse can totally ruin you.
Just now listening to this in 2021. Wow. Wow. .Wow. Amazing voice and performance. For some reason I enjoy seeing and hearing her perform live. So pure and authentic. LOL on Veer's comment below.
I agree with TheMustardTiger... YES, MAJOR PROPS to the sound engineers on this quite special 'mini-concert' indeed... I love most everything y'all do there at Paste Studios! Thank you for sharing these beauties with the world. Ms. Phoebe Bridgers is just so magnificent on many levels. Oh, how about that gentleman accompanying, Phoebe. What a very humble, incredible musician (Harry). He just folds into the background eloquently to give the artist her due. So professional & appreciated over here from the cheap-seats! Solid performance. What a gift. Thank you ALL!... 😉 💜 🍀 🎶

this is a weird comment section before i even scroll down. i want to especially commend this ambient slide guitarist for creating such a nice and complementary soundscape on that first song. beautiful vocals sound nice among those swells . lyrics not working for me but i might not be receptive for whatever reason. loved how the guitar got distorted with the increased intensity of the vocal. seems like a good artist. second song going to the baritone and the detune. liking these lyrics better.....much better.....yeah, this is really good "burning trash out on the beach". I wonder if this is one of the older or newer ones....someone should build a movie around this tune....
wow.....this floors me. and yes great work on the audio. but damn.....her songs are just beautiful.....beautiful.....nice understated dude on guitar too.
poor phoebe oh god the ryan adams stuff hurt so much to hear i don't blame the reporter bc they obviously didn't know + phoebe wasn't open about it at the time but agh my heart
I’ve been describing her to people as the alt music version of Gregory Alan Isakov since I first discovered her! I didn’t think anybody else would make the connection, but I’m glad somebody has!
@@baileydenbak7237 He is who "motion Sickness" featured in this video is about, to give you an idea. If you look up Phoebe Bridgers Ryan Adams you'll find her talking about it but he is a serial abuser and their relationship was very toxic
"last year felt like the apocalypse" just you wait phoebe
Came here to say basically this lmao
Hahahaha...I knew someone beat me to it. Crazy times, eh?
@@dkbrantley5009 And somehow 3 years later, they seem to be even crazier.
Whoever did the audio for this session needs a damn trophy.
Most often those RUclips studio/tiny desk etc. recordings trump the sound of the original recordings.
Yeah, that mix is fucking amazing.

Her tuning of the guitars is a miracle.

Her music makes me feel everything at once. I love it
Love the tasty complementary guitar playing from Harrison Whitford :D
smoke signals is one of my favorite songs ,,,,like ever
This rendition is wonderful.
mine too
Smoke Signals is in my top 10 favorite songs I've heard in a decade.

I love Phoebe so much, and this might be my favorite performance of hers.
It’s just so hauntingly beautiful.
Georgia just broke my back.
Best version of 'Georgia' to date in my opinion. Jeepers you have got it Pheobe!
No one has professed their love for this wonderful human in a year. Since I discovered her today, I get to be the new one: Phoebe Bridgers, I love you!
music performed live that sounds good enough to be on a record. Dope.
21:00 - very sweet for him to tell her how great she performed. She kicks ass
i need an hour-long loop of phoebe tuning her guitar

@@boburnham6 Haha, good one.
The interviewer definitely had no idea who Motion Sickness was about.
sorry I don't know what are you talking about, what happened with Ryan Adams and Phoebe?
He’s a total fucken creep. She looks like a kid here and this is after their relationship.
wow just heard Georgia for the first time and the "oh"s alone almost brought tears to my eyes. not ready for the rest of this performance ♥️🥲
Totally dig the slower, more atmospheric version of "Motion Sickness" she does here...So good.
i could only dream of my hair being this shiny

This video is the first I've heard of Phoebe Bridgers. Instantly love her music!
You’ve listened to her new album Punisher surely by now then right?

Well that was as close to perfect as I've ever heard. Absolutely amazing.
She's got it!
Put on my playlist *FEMALE SINGERS THAT TOUCH THE SOUL, IF EVEN BRIEFLY*
There are no words, she's used them all.
I love my wife. I enjoy Phoebe's music.
As close to perfection as is possible.
She is beautiful and lovely and perfect and insanely talented and seems super genuine and humble and real
She is a gem.
Such a pleasure to enjoy the music but also hear Phoebe talk about its development.
She has a very distinct elvish quality about her.
A sort of goth/rock elf who, in high school, wrote lyrics about how she feels more like an orc than an elf.
The larp community loves her
It's called "Pale"

@Tommy Bain Yeah. Her character is waaaaay too pretentious.
Her voice cradles me in a blanket of warmth and joy ....that's an extremely powerful talent.

I guess youtube is as close as I'm ever getting to a time machine. But this is just amazing to see and as we all know Phoebe is just the best.
TheMustardTiger is right on. The audio is badass. Bridgers' vocals sound like heaven. And Harrison / Harry matters. This is very good stuff.
this is so beautiful. my biggest dream is to see her live, even though it seems like a long shot, being from Finland :(
Hoping you one day get to achieve that dream🤍

Veer Chasm You made a little poem there without maybe even knowing it!
Anthony Sassin I’ll be releasing a book of poems about Phoebe 😆
So true

This Epiphone sound is just incredible. I can't get over it really, best soundning guitar i've heard all my life.
it was okay, like regular sounding
I like the Danelectro better! 😎✌️🎶🎸🪕
No wonder why she ended up collaborating with Julien Baker. They're beautiful artists. I'd never seen that passion before.

It's hard to pick a favorite from these three but it's undeniable. it's motion sickness.
she is so amazing

Rude not to know the guitarist name before hand.
Very unproffessional

I agree, and he was awesome.
I too am currently fascinated with writing in open tunings...
I just watched a Joan Shelley video where she was asked about open tuning, too.
Wonderful!!!
her hair looks really good here tbh
Amazing performance you're 🔥
How does anyone compete with that? Especially Georgia.
The silver hair suit hair so much she so pretty i would cry
She's great. Kind of like a female version of Gregory Alan Isakov.

Wow she should do every song talking before then singing so we can hear the contrast of those 2 personalities. Its insane.

Phoebe's songs & voice are lovely, but Harrison is doing great 'color commentary'. Good job, man,
